Top 5 Bond song, easily
It's the best, for me. It captures the exotic and fantastical nature and luxurious aesthetic of James Bond perfectly. Remember when James Bond songs were great tunes that worked perfectly for the movie and the character organically and not gay ballads sung by lame female artists with the Bond chord thrown in for cheap effect?

Have you heard Duran Duran's version? You might like it better (it's much worse than the version they did go with, imo). I don't remember the details but they clashed with John Barry working on the song.
It's definitely up there for me. Hard to pick a fave. Goldfinger, You Only Live Twice, The Living Daylights, Surrender, You Know My Name, Tomorrow Never Dies, all great.

The campy 80s vibe is fun but basically absent outside of the Jones/Walken scenes. The rest is very drab and boring. Moore is sleepwalking, the Bond girl is HORRIBLE, the sets are uninteresting (the Bond girl lives in an unfurnished home kek), the stuntment are easy to spot. Music is great. Bottom 5 Bond film (excluding Craigslop)
Whilst it has some good elements - most notably the soundtrack and Grace Jones' May Day - it is bad. Moore's age is the obvious issues. Although Moore aged well he was nonetheless was showing his age in FYEO and AVTAK is four years after that, and what really make his age glaring in AVTAK is that attention is brought to it by how he clearly had work done. Moreover, unlike FYEO and Octopussy that both incorporated Moore's age, AVTAK does not; if anything there is missed opportunity of exploring an older Bond and a younger villain. Now whilst switching out Moore with Dalton or Brosnan would be an improvement it would only be a limited one as the issues with AVTAK are more than Moore's age. Zorin's plan is a basically just a redo of Goldfinger. By 1985 the Nazi genetic experiment element was outdated and silly (in a way that is not fun camp), along with adding little to the film itself. Walken is rather wasted. Stacey is the blandest Bond girl. Any value of Patrick Macnee being in the film only works if one has the meta-knowledge of the Honor Blackman and Diana Rigg connection. The action is lacklustre. Trying to retool the film is a pointless exercise, for retooling entails you keeping it somewhat as it is and too much needs to be changed. It is a poor send-off to Moore but, it would have done more harm to either Dalton or Brosnan (and through that the wider franchise) if this was their first film.
Not quite as bad as Moonraker, but still terrible.
Moonraker mogs the shit out AVTAK
I like both, but I like Moonraker much better. Wild set design and a large scale bad guy vs good guy battle is the best shit ever when Bond movies do it. TSWLM, Thunderball, YOLT, etc. Also the space shit is really well done in my opinion, it looks fantastic. I have the collection in 4k and if it was shot today I doubt it would look half as good with stupid cgi shit everywhere
What do you find so terrible about Moonraker?
the only part that really annoys me is the Jaws subplot. bringing him back after TSWLM is fine, and I'm even ok with him becoming an ally to Bond, but turning him into comedic relief is laaaaaame. there's a couple other over-the-top comedy moments in the film but they're whatever
most people seem to hate the film solely because "lol Bond in space that's stupid!!" but the space stuff is good and the camp parts work well. Zorin is a fun villain and the score might be John Barry's best

I can see people have issues with Bond going into space but, compared to AVTAK, Moonraker: has better locations and set pieces, Ken Adam's production design, and doesn't have the massive issue of Moore's age/look. Moonraker's Bond girl is whatever but, she is leagues above AVTAK's. The only thing AVTAK perhaps has better than Moonraker is the score, though even then Moonraker does not have a bad score.
On the Moonraker vs AVTAK debate, I hope you agree that at the very least Moonraker's ending mogs that of AVTAK.

There are people that have genuine takes on why Moonraker, including the space stuff, is bad (which is fair enough) but, much of the general hate comes from it being 'common knowledge' that Moonraker is bad and it thereby fashionable to hate it. My biggest issue with Moonraker, though I do not hate it, is it being a rehash of TSWLM immediately after TSWLM.
Love it even though it's a sucky retread of Goldfinger. Obviously Zorin and Mayday make it, but it's my favorite Moore flick, along with Live and Let Die.
Great movie. I just don't see what people think is so horrible. Moore looked old but never did I think that he ruined the movie. Walken and Jones are great, the locations are great, the music is fantastic, the pacing is good, the girl is inoffensive and the ending on the Golden Gate Bridge is firmly in the Top 5 best set pieces in the entire series. It's a great end to Moore's run even though I agree it would've suited Brosnan better.
Kinda crap, but enjoyable.
Underrated. Great villain. Top 3 theme song. Great location. Tanya Roberts was sexy af. Moore being older doesn't even matter to me. This wouldn't have been any better with Dalton or Brosnan. Perfect finale for Moore era and the last great John Barry score.
I love the sequence with him and the fire truck and being trapped in the building, and the sequence where they're fighting people off in the girls grande maison, something about the way those sequences are shot looks uniquely American compared to most bond movies, and I mean that in the best way possible
Yeah it's funny you bring up the City Hall fire scene. Moore's most heroic turn in all the movies was probably him carrying Roberts down the fire ladder as people watch below and the Barry score plays in background.

Bless Cinemaphile and /bond/. This feeds my soul. Only place in the internet you can have true, honest and hardcore Bond discussion. For the record, I love the movie. It is in the peak of the 1980's and the whole movie benefits in terms of atmosphere due to that. Moore was great and I don't agree that Brosnan or Dalton would've been better for it. Moore and Walken's chemistry was fantastic.

Moore's weakest but still kino. Strongest characterisation of a villain up to that point. Moore is far too old and looks strange because he had a face lift in an attempt to make himself look younger. The bits in the middle in the US drag, and there's too many scenes without Bond. Stacey is too much of a screaming damsel in distress. It's also the last film which starts with Bond going into M's office and being briefed for a mission.
The Living Daylights and For Your Eyes Only themes are better.

That song is good but I don't feel like it fits a Bond title sequence somehow. Feels more like an end credits song to me.

I like the Tina Turner song but this would've been better as it fit the time and the themes of the movie better. Tina was just an attempt to memberberry people about Shirley Bassey.
I like the Chris Cornell song but this song by Sandra reminds me of the good reality where Brosnan did Casino Royale so it's the best one.
I'm probably in the minority but I think Goldeneye sucks. I like Tina Turner in general though, just not that song.
