Rem was constantly threatening to kill him if he messed with her waifu, so I don't blame Light. Rem was a simp that shouldn't have been messing around in the human world like she did.

i know but it felt shitty to me because rem knew that he was only keeping misa around because of her eyes and would never agree to do it himself so he basically needed her

Yes, Light completely manipulated Misa, firstly to use her Shingami eyes, and then to draw L's attention to her, which pressured Rem into killing L so L didn't arrest Misa again.
But Misa herself was a pretty fricked up and evil person, she murdered countless people just because Light told her to, and also murdered police officers of her own volition.

Rem kills L and Watari, and thus kills herself, right before the timeskip, shortly after the Yotsuba storyline is ended and Light gets his memories back. Rem's actions are what basically makes Light win, and leads to the time jump.

Wrong, Mello in part 2 killed his mole (The Rat) while ordering him to kill all the Near team members whose names his criminal gang managed to recover.
Then the Rat Killed himself. So Mello had one of his minion to wrote in the stolen note something like "Rat (insert his really name) kill all these people (insert Near's team member's names), and then blow up his head"

What you CANT do is make a dude killed with the note kill randomly people in doing so, or ordering him to kill someone that you dont know his name

Light has an extremely naive and childish outlook on justice.
      >Some people are good others are bad, that's just how the world is
This is an attitude that children typically grow out of when they get into adulthood and realize the world, and morality isn't so black and white. It's like how children will say "Why are there wars when we could all just get along?" Then a few hours later attack another child because "he took MY gummy bears! And that made me mad!"
This was brutally highlighted in the end when all he could repeat was "I don't want to die." When he had killed possibly hundreds of thousands of people.

Not entirely true. The death note can only cause people to die if their names are written in it.
So if I wrote "Donald Trump kills Joe Biden", that would be totally okay because I'm specifying both of their names.
But I can't write "Joe Biden nukes China" because I'd have to first specify all the names of the people that should die

First viewing of the series I was focused on L and how cool and mysterious he was, but on my second viewing of it (very recently) I paid more attention to Light, and honestly this guy's plans and schemes were so brilliant that I feel like he kind of deserved to win based on how clever and cunning he was. The whole memory loss + manipulating Rem into killing L and Watari plan is possibly the smartest plan I've ever seen in a show or movie.

        Anonymous

But it wasn't much of a gamble, since Rem literally told him earlier that she was willing to die to protect Misa, when Light first threatened to kill her. Light was excellent at reading people and knowing how to manipulate them - his father, the task force, Naomi and Ray, Misa etc. Rem was no different. The only people he could never manipulate were L and Near.

Near acknowledged that he only won because Mello's plan exposed Light's trick.

if the thing written in the note book is not possible, the victim will simply die of a heart attack, so complication is not an issue, since it will either work and he will bury the gold in the specified location, or die without even trying. which is kinda a bummer, but i wouldnt get caught and i could refine the plan on the next attempt. manipulating the stock market is a neat idea, it worked for yotsuba; until everyone died, but i wouldnt know where to begin with that, who to kill or what to instruct them to do before hand

he was a narcissist who was ego-tripping so hard he thought he was God. he coulda got a whole lot further if he didnt use heart attacks, like tones of accidents and suicides would have worked, would be far harder to investigate, probably would take a long time for someone to even think "hmm, maybe there is a single person responsible for these seemingly unrelated global suicides and accidents" but no, he had to let people know it was someone passing judgement. his intentions were to be a God, killing criminals was just a means to that end, because his ego couldnt take just biting the bullet and killing world leaders then holding countries and their people ransom.

His intentions were to become the God of a new world and he killed everyone he deemed unworthy. He didn't want to help or better the world. His intentions were not good.
The moment he realized the true power of the Death Note he got to work killing off every criminal he could. He scheduled writing names in the book so that it wouldn't disrupt his academic performance. He knew it wasn't good so he did what he could to hide it.
He never stopped to reflect on what he had done. Even when it made clear that his version of justice is cruel and insane, he kept going, killing even his own father in the process.

frick, i just though, what about bit coin or something? he buys a large amount of bit coin, transfers it to my wallet. maybe add a few steps in it, he transfers it to someone, who transfers it to someone else etc, eventually getting to me. would have to kill, like, 20 other people or whatever, would have to make sure everyone in the chain could do it, otherwise the money would be stuck in some random buttholes wallet with no way of accessing it.

or maybe just instruct him to send me the details of his wallet, so i can access it without it needing to be transferred? is that possible or is the wallet associated with the hardware its on?

Security measures are irrelevant as long as the person hasn't forgotten their seed phrase and has access to the wallet. It is still a bad idea, as bitcoin transactions are easily and publicly traceable. 20 transactions is nothing especially if you do it more than once and it all comes back to you. You would never be able to use the money without eventually being tracked down.

                I would write
                >Joe Biden will forgive all student loans, lower gas prices, expose all the names in Epstein's book and who killed him before dying peacefully in his sleep

            >alright, tell him to take all his money and buy gold
you're adding more possible complications rather than reducing possible complications and adding redundancy
using the death note to maintain financial security seems like a nightmare but if you used to influence the stock market, that would probably be the biggest blow to the "world order" if that is truly your enemy.

frick, i just though, what about bit coin or something? he buys a large amount of bit coin, transfers it to my wallet. maybe add a few steps in it, he transfers it to someone, who transfers it to someone else etc, eventually getting to me. would have to kill, like, 20 other people or whatever, would have to make sure everyone in the chain could do it, otherwise the money would be stuck in some random buttholes wallet with no way of accessing it.

or maybe just instruct him to send me the details of his wallet, so i can access it without it needing to be transferred? is that possible or is the wallet associated with the hardware its on?

The whole memory loss + manipulating Rem into killing L and Watari plan is possibly the smartest plan I've ever seen in a show or movie.

Killing Ray Penber. That's the thing that pretty much confirmed to L that Light was Kira. Before that he didn't know, but as soon as Ray died after following only TWO suspects, that pretty much confirmed it.
Light fricked up by killing Lind L Taylor on TV but he could have still won if he didn't do anything suspicious after that. But killing Penber was stupid and also unnecessary, since he was going to give Light the all-clear anyway.

he killed all the fbi agents in random order actually stil dumb especially actually meating penber instead of comming up with a safer way

        what was lights worst mistakes?

for me is using police esclusive information to put L and the police against each other, he narrowed it down from millions to thousands in for nothing, killing the fbi agents is a close second
In general he should have just realised he fricked up after killing fake L and never engage with him or any law inforcment again

          >he killed all the fbi agents in random order actually stil dumb especially actually meating penber instead of comming up with a safer way
Oh yeah I forgot about that
Still, he should have just not done anything, and trusted that they wouldn't report anything suspicious. I mean he himself knew that he fooled Penber so thoroughly that he wouldn't report anything suspicious.
It was Light's paranoia that brought him down. If he had have just left teh FBI alone, he'd have been completely in the clear. Not even L's hard-on for scrutinising Light weould have happened.

He killed all the FBI agents because he wanted to get closer to L. He wanted L to suspect him so he would shoe his face. Remember that they keep saying that Kira is childish and hates to lose, for him this was a game.

Or kill an IT guy and write that he destroys all the CGI data they have for that movie somehow.. stuff like that
I would use Death Note in this manner to delay the movie again and again and again until they finally give up.

Light fricked up and lost the moment he threw a temper tantrum and killed Lind L. Taylor. If he hadn't fell for such a pathetic and obvious jebait, L would never have known he was in Japan and would have taken him much longer to find Light if he would have found him at all. Instead, Light exposed the fact that he's still just a kid and wasn't ready for the responsibility of creating a perfect utopia.

        >the problem is Light wanted to engage L

This is why both L and Light failed - because they were fundamentally egocentric people obsessed with the fun of the game, they both took MASSIVE risks to beat the other just to make themselves feel smart.
Near, on the other hand, didn't give a frick about ego, and remained hidden until the very end, being extremely cautious and not taking any risks. This what let him win while everyone else died.

How would you guys use the Death Note? other than killing israelites, you dont need to specify that, thats a given.

personally, id take a politician, such as Boris Johnson, and write "he will withdraw as much money as he can from his bank account, travel alone to (coordinates for woods close to my house) with the money in as many duffle bags as needed and dig a hole at the exact coordinate given in the middle of the night, he will ensure he is not being followed and cant be seen throughout, deposit the money in the hole and and fill it, then return to London, write a complete list of all crimes he has committed, was party to or is aware of other committing, including the names of others involved. he will then publish this list on as many media platforms as he can think of, then kill himself"

that way i get fricken paid and the world gets a nice insight into the corruption of world leaders, its a nice jumping off point at least

      Anonymous

      This is a terrible idea
the banknotes could be tracked and cross-referenced with the location in which he dropped them, you would be found out quite easily.
Also, you'd never want to post your actual plan on the internet in any form whatsoever. Same with murder plans, never say "yeah, the way to get away with murder is so ez bro, you just X and Y"; your modus operandi gets traced back to you describing it word for word to your friend.

        Anonymous

assuming anyone bothers to look into if he withdrew money, the serial numbers of the money withdrew (why would they do this before anything suspicious happened? is it a thing banks do by default?) and if the money has been used (not that they'd assume he spent the money himself rather or anything rather than assume whoever has the money somehow made him commit suicide by magic)
alright, tell him to take all his money and buy gold, or something, id probably have to write a few other names in so he has people to help transport and carry the gold, because it'd probably be a lot of gold.

and as death notes dont exist, im not worried about posting the plan online. of course, if it turns out they do exist and i get my hands on one it seems i have fricked up big time.

          Anonymous

          >(why would they do this before anything suspicious happened? is it a thing banks do by default?)
I'm pretty sure they keep track
the point is that banknotes are trackABLE not whether or not they would be tracked
          >alright, tell him to take all his money and buy gold
you're adding more possible complications rather than reducing possible complications and adding redundancy
using the death note to maintain financial security seems like a nightmare but if you used to influence the stock market, that would probably be the biggest blow to the "world order" if that is truly your enemy.

Death Note users don't end up in Hell nor Heaven, they end up in purgatory I'm pretty sure.

          >“For me, one of the premises of the series is that once a person died, they could never come back to life. I really wanted to set a rule that bringing characters back to life is cheating. That's why death equals "nothingness" … If I had to choose [a theme to express throughout the series], I'd say "Humans will all eventually die and never come back to life, so let's give it our all while we're alive”
Heaven and Hell don't exist in Death Note. Your soul gets obliterated, there is no justice.

              >Justice is a man-made concept, it exists only in the human world.

if the thing written in the note book is not possible, the victim will simply die of a heart attack, so complication is not an issue, since it will either work and he will bury the gold in the specified location, or die without even trying. which is kinda a bummer, but i wouldnt get caught and i could refine the plan on the next attempt. manipulating the stock market is a neat idea, it worked for yotsuba; until everyone died, but i wouldnt know where to begin with that, who to kill or what to instruct them to do before hand

honestly light was kinda moronic, he didnt make a single person die while trying to eat their own ass. id make literally all the people i kill die that way.

Much like Light making everyone die of heart attacks. People will begin to note the pattern, I'd make them die in more plausible ways or even in way that sets up redhairings to anyone trying to find me. Basically do as little to have this traced back to me as possible.

(in death note) there isnt actually Heaven or Hell, when all humans die, they go to MU (nothingness). pretty sure the thing Ryuk said about death note users not going to heaven or hell was retconned midway through the series to just be him trolling.

since in this scenario we are saying the death note is real, im assuming the MU tidbit is also real

          [...]

Yeah it would be pretty funny but I'd be as cautious as possible while using the Death Note. Not taking any of the risks Light did.

Light killed so many people, the authorities will notice a pattern one way or another. It's hardly subtle when an entire prison full of people dies.

Light was actually pretty smart though. By killing 99% of people with heart attacks, he led the authorities to believe that this is all he could do. So when he does kill someone some other way, they won't suspect that he had something to do with it

I wouldn't plan on killing 1000s of people in rapid succession, I'd also space out the targets to make any noticing of patterns slower. At the very least not have people suspect it's some random loser with a magic book causing all this.

Considering I'm someone who doesn't even use their real name online anywhere I'm confident I'd not get caught. I'd still be cautious as frick though. Wouldn't even try to pull that Boris Johnson heist like the other anon said they would as it's too risky for me. Light was smart but his ego was what fricked him, if he didn't jump to kill fake L the show would of ended there.

that was also me, and the heist is a work in progress admittedly. there'd certainly need to be a laundering step in the plan, not to mention the problem of people noticing Boris randomly deciding to travel to the north east a few days before his tragic ass eating accident

or maybe just instruct him to send me the details of his wallet, so i can access it without it needing to be transferred? is that possible or is the wallet associated with the hardware its on?

assuming anyone bothers to look into if he withdrew money, the serial numbers of the money withdrew (why would they do this before anything suspicious happened? is it a thing banks do by default?) and if the money has been used (not that they'd assume he spent the money himself rather or anything rather than assume whoever has the money somehow made him commit suicide by magic)
alright, tell him to take all his money and buy gold, or something, id probably have to write a few other names in so he has people to help transport and carry the gold, because it'd probably be a lot of gold.

and as death notes dont exist, im not worried about posting the plan online. of course, if it turns out they do exist and i get my hands on one it seems i have fricked up big time.

            >So if I wrote "Donald Trump kills Joe Biden", that would be totally okay because I'm specifying both of their names.
no, you can't use people as assassins. you can write "attempts murder," but the "order" written in the Death Note is intended to be used against a single person at a specific moment in time.

              Anonymous

if the thing written in the note book is not possible, the victim will simply die of a heart attack, so complication is not an issue, since it will either work and he will bury the gold in the specified location, or die without even trying. which is kinda a bummer, but i wouldnt get caught and i could refine the plan on the next attempt. manipulating the stock market is a neat idea, it worked for yotsuba; until everyone died, but i wouldnt know where to begin with that, who to kill or what to instruct them to do before hand

not talking about the Boris Johnson plan, that would probably work but there's no guarantee you would not be caught. the Trump-Biden thing tho, no, neither of them would reasonably act as assassins nor is it possible due to how the Death Note works. Light himself says the Death Note's greatest weakness is its inconvenience, it really is a very limited weapon.

Then the Rat Killed himself. So Mello had one of his minion to wrote in the stolen note something like "Rat (insert his really name) kill all these people (insert Near's team member's names), and then blow up his head"

Also, Lightgays can't understand he always had the potential of a sociopathic serial killer with a God complex, just now he had been given a tool to reveal his true self.He started off killing criminals that were already doing hard time and probably would have received the death sentence anyway, and then the rest of the time killing people who were investigating him.

He would eventually graduate to outright killing J-walkers, addicts and even unemployed people all just to serve his idea of a utopia. He would leave the world in a much worse state.

Go on wikipedia and find as many names and photos of heads of state, party members, chambers of government, etc. That I possibly can. Do nothing but compose a list of their names for as long as possible. Any major government position, into an excel sheet.

Write down their names one by one, alphabetically. No specified cause of death, wait for time to run out, and watch as there's a cascade of every single person holding a significant amount of government power in every single country and NGO on the world, every single possible replacement candidate dying in the process, lines of succession being completely shot.

This would be done purely for my own amusement.

This was brutally highlighted in the end when all he could repeat was "I don't want to die." When he had killed possibly hundreds of thousands of people

Ohba was a one hit wonder hack, thats why he changed his pen name after flopping with his gag shit

yeah, that would be my secondary goal, after stacking mad paper, of course. you can literally just write "so-and-so will publish a list of their Crimes, crimes they are aware of or were a party to. crimes of their associates etc. etc. and publish it as widely as possible. physically print out a few thousand copies and distribute them widely and randomly (to ensure the information isnt just deleted from social media). then they die in an accident while trying to eat they own ass".

this way you have a list of more people to list their crimes and die trying to eat their own ass.

honestly light was kinda moronic, he didnt make a single person die while trying to eat their own ass. id make literally all the people i kill die that way.

He really cemented himself as a hack when he killed off Mello just because he would've solved the case too quickly.

No he cemented himself as a hack when it was realized that death note is the only worthwhile story he could create

Assuming 8 hours of sleep, 2 hours of eating/exercise, 10 hours of image+name research and 6 hours of continuous writing of 10 names / minute, it would take 4.56 years to write 6.000.000 names in the Death Note.

I feel like Light would have taken the five minutes to look into the case it would take to realize who was in the wrong and then would have killed the one armed dude who survived instead.

Near was somehow able to make an identical copy of the death note book under 24 hours that was able to stand up to microscopic scrutiny. That was complete BS.

The new Netflix series isn't going to do her character right. She'll be more "obsessed" rather than completely subservient to Light

what happens if a name gets written in the Death Note that multiple people have? Does everyone with that name die? And what cements a person's name in the eyes of the death note - what's written on their birth certificate or some arbitrary reason? What if someone was born an orphan and never got a name?

you have to visualize the persons face in your mind iirc, for your first question

        Anonymous

Is that a requirement for every name you put in the book? If that were the case then id be surprised why he couldnt put nicknames like L or watari since he could visualize their faces.

its a combo of knowing the face and the birth name, but youre right i have no idea how it would work if you had your name changed or something

It does the whole concept of opposing ideologies way better and doesn't boil down to "oh my god if i take two scoops of ice cream L will think im kira....."

There's a lot of anime better than Monster. You don't have to go outside the medium where there's even way more.

No, it was a histrionic disorder, his downfall came from his need to insert himself into his deeds (Which started with him attempting to kill L, an innocent person, simply for disagreeing with him), which shows he wasn't doing them out of a sense of morality but out of mere narcissism.
