>Lynch's worst is still leagues better than anything Villeneuve has ever made.
So you're telling me that Elephant Man is better than Enemy? Okay fella.
It's literally not even a genuine Lynch film.
It's just generic Hollywood drama that happens to have been directed by Lynch.
If you think it's his best, that means you like studio-films, and dislike Lynch.
I got some enjoyment from watching so it's alright. The first half is very promising but it really starts to shit the bed in the second half. But I wouldn't call it the worst thing ever and it's mostly dogpiling journalists and morons who never watched it that senselessly shit on it.
Yeah it wasn't very good but it did look great. The problem is that the whole movie is just one giant exposition dump, though I guess there's something charming about it since the book is exactly that so in a way its weirdly faithful to the book
I'm actually leaning on the miniseries being the best at this point. It's definitely the truest to the books. I thought their version of Dune was pretty meh, but Children of Dune was actually good.
I sometimes wonder if the Cinemaphile contrarians have actually even watched Lynch Dune, because they would pillory it if it came out today. The "muh source material" autists in particular would flip their lids about the ending. >Sting's role >Heart Plugs >Baron Harkonnen makeup >cubic shield sfx >second half of the story speedrun >ending of the book changed
The movie is interesting and it's not completely without merit but it made truly bizarre choices and they ran out of money halfway through filming. Dino Delaurentis was on coke and Lynch is Lynch.
None of those were a problem to me as I’m not a bookgay. The source material is goofy as frick and Lynch did it justice by making a hilarious crazy flick which I enjoyed unlike both of the nu-dunes
Dishonestkun no one has ever defended those things. Even people that love the movie admit that the second half is bad. You win no points today better luck next time.
The Lynch movie and the Villeneuve movie have the opposite pros and cons. Lynch movie is visually fantastic but narratively a huge mess, Villeneuve's movies make more sense as a story but look dull and sterile. The ideal adaptation would be the cross between both these movies.
hating popular (not that popular though) thing you haven't watched is not a personality. No one is impressed, even in this shithole. You're delusional.
The first half was a nearly perfect film. Sadly because of lack of technology and lots of meddling and also lynch not really being a sci fi or action director the second half fell apart. Still the first half is so good it makes up for that and stands as the best version of dune aside from the miniseries. Only lynch was truly able to capture the mystery and weirdness of the dune universe.
Nobody actually read those books.
LOTR is judged being a pretty hard read.
It's fine. Or Dune is terrible.
Maybe booth. I never made it further than 20% into Dune, they were having some formal eating thingy and I had to learn a lot of things that i decided I truly do not care about.
Dune is shitty books. Get used to it.
This is why billionaires don't let this kids have ipads or iphones. Reminder, if the billionaires do something there's probably a good reason for it. Exposure to social media in their formative years is the number one cause of adult malfunction.
If any of you have children do everything in your power to give them a normal unplugged life for as long as you can. Social media destroys attention spans and can permanently fry your dopamine receptors. This poster is a prime example of what being raised on facebook and twitter does to a person.
It's not your fault I don't blame you. I've been trying for years to get my best friend to read good books and it's just not possible. He actually told me he read dune the other day. I was stunned until he said he listened to it on audiobook.
Reading is a dying art sadly, and it's not any particular persons fault. We're just wired to seek the most stimulus possible and sadly moving pictures will always beat black letters on a white page.
That's because it requires higher thought, there are many tiers of writing. Much of scifi writing fits into the bing bing wahoo category. Dune is not that kind of book. It's slow and cerebral. If you're looking for action and adventure you're looking in the wrong place. Action in dune is just a biproduct never the focus.

Yeah paving the way to extinction lmao. Giving women rights was the equivalent decision to playing russian roulette with a fully loaded pistol for society.

>playing russian roulette with a fully loaded pistol for society.
You don't need to fully load a pistol, that's not how pistols work, you're thinking revolvers.
Aynways, I'm the guy you replied to and yes, that's extinction stuff. Or maybe the rise of the white master race. Excluding israelites. Who knows.
It's great from start to finish. The "it's bad" myth started because Lynch was uncomfortable with being a mainstream director since he always considered himself an auteur, so he couldn't get over being not given final cut.
I saw that recut extended version and all the additions are just lame and superfluous.
I think the original theatrical cut flows perfectly fine and works perfectly well.
>moronic baron >Tons of exposition >wonky special effects >Paul's actor has zero charisma, even less than Chalamet >fricking kungfu voice >moronic second half >bad costume design >rushed second half >Fremen look like hillbillies
It does some things better than DUNC (better Chani, Kynes, more faithful in some parts, such as thr Space Guildsmen being present and Alia existing) but overall it's worse than Denis' adaptation.
Honestly, if each DUNC was half an hour longer, including some extra stuff like the captured Sardaukar, Thufir's scheme, extended Feyd Rautha, Count Fenring, the Garden and the dinner scenes, they could have been definitely the superior version by everyone.
But there's still stuff that irk me
>Dumbing down of ecological theme (almost nonexistent apart from some mentions of "green paradise") >dumbing down of religious, messianic and islamic themes (stilgar, although likeable, is written very one-sided, almost to the point of comic relief) >Zendaya is terrible and her character is worse. Chani is the reason why I'm skeptical for Messiah >Arrakeen's design was ridiculously lazy
And some others I can't remember. But I expected the movie(s) to be way worse when they were announced. Messiah will have some interesting shit, like the Facedancers, Guild navigator and the whole AliaxGhola shit, plus it turns the Messianic allegories up to a ten so there's that.
I wonder if you could do the movie without explaining anything . Just play the events out as they appear in the book . Make it so it’s not a “movie about the future” but a movie FROM the future .
no it's kino
soul
More like a A MassivePiece of Shit
The book I mean. There is barely any insight into the actual production of the film and I felt ripped off.
Of course not.
It's not even Lynch's worst, and Lynch's worst is still leagues better than anything Villeneuve has ever made.
>Lynch's worst is still leagues better than anything Villeneuve has ever made.
So you're telling me that Elephant Man is better than Enemy? Okay fella.
Yes.
Enemy is Villeneuve's worst movie. Absolute pretentious tripe.
100% yes not even memeing.
The Elephant Man is Lynch's best film, and one of the best films ever made.
I've never seen a lynch movie aside from dune, could you try to convince me why I should watch it? I don't know anything about his movies.
It's literally not even a genuine Lynch film.
It's just generic Hollywood drama that happens to have been directed by Lynch.

Yes. Don't let Cinemaphile contrarians tell you otherwise.
>Cinemaphile contrarians
Redditor detected.
It's not great but probably still the best adaptation we're ever gonna get, besides the SyFy miniseries.
>besides the SyFy miniseries.
And the porn game.
I'm actually leaning on the miniseries being the best at this point. It's definitely the truest to the books. I thought their version of Dune was pretty meh, but Children of Dune was actually good.
It's really bad yes, from the start it seems confused on how a book adaptation should even be handled.
You've never read the book.
Spicediver edit is good.
I sometimes wonder if the Cinemaphile contrarians have actually even watched Lynch Dune, because they would pillory it if it came out today. The "muh source material" autists in particular would flip their lids about the ending.

The defense bookgays make for Lynch's Dune is "it got the spirit right" even though it ignored loads of the themes.
>it ignored loads of the themes.
Bullshit. You think stuff like weirding modules counts as themes.
Dishonestkun no one has ever defended those things. Even people that love the movie admit that the second half is bad. You win no points today better luck next time.
It's Soul Kino
The Lynch version is colourful and interesting to look at. Villeneuve's is all grey and beige.
The Lynch movie and the Villeneuve movie have the opposite pros and cons. Lynch movie is visually fantastic but narratively a huge mess, Villeneuve's movies make more sense as a story but look dull and sterile. The ideal adaptation would be the cross between both these movies.
>Villeneuve's movies make more sense as a story
A story. Okay. But that story is not Dune.
Dune was never a good book and was never going to be a good movie.
Especially when 90% of the book is exposition on useless information and requires the viewer to know a billion made-up words.
Even Lynch, with all his abstractness, couldn’t get Normies to memories a pamphlet of gibberish before a movie.
>an oral history
Yeah what does that even mean? It’s a fricking book. Maybe it’s referring to the oral the author gives himself.
Who are you quoting, newfriend?
The book in the OP, moron
anal history is more up your alley?
It's heart was in the right place but couldn't quite execute. That said there are moments of greatness.

It just needed to be a bit longer is it’s biggest problem.

Wait wait buddy, what are you trying to say about me? (it's actually obvious...BUT STILL)
It's not your fault I don't blame you.
I've read hundreds, perhaps even low thousands of sci-fi books.
Dune is a pain in the ass.
That's because it requires higher thought, there are many tiers of writing. Much of scifi writing fits into the bing bing wahoo category. Dune is not that kind of book. It's slow and cerebral. Almost everything about that movie is iconic.
first half was great
second half was dire
producer fricked it
most frustrating movie ever

Baiting with an empty hook, could you at least make an attempt next time?
Yeah, the Lynch version's costuming was God tier.
I wonder if you could do the movie without explaining anything . Just play the events out as they appear in the book . Make it so it’s not a “movie about the future” but a movie FROM the future .
I thought it was a mess
I liked the costumes but otherwise it wasn't good
