I always liked David Wallace because he was both this business dude who just cared about numbers…. But also exuded an actual personality. He wasn’t an butthole. He was just a dude who was getting along

Even when he brushed off Michael it wasn’t because he didn’t like him, he just underestimated how much he’d care that he didn’t let him have some party for his 15th anniversary. When he saw Michael was upset he offered to fund it and attend himself… missing the point entirely, it was just about caring at all. Michael saw he didn’t care about him or his dedication. So he left

So when Michael quit it was kino.

Apparently the David Wallace actor wasn’t really an actual actor. He was an accountant. Only really acted for the office show. Which makes sense because all his scenes are fairly “business person talks reasonably to you” scenes. He’s not asked to really do anything beyond his literal job IRL

Golden Office is the Jim/Pam arks that takes S1-3. After that the show soldiered on by giving more airtime to the secondary characters. The show holds on until Michael leaves. Those whole arches of his replacement are awful. I wished they would have put Dwight there and just move on. What they did with Andy in the later season was a disgrace. S9 wasn't that bad to be honest, but they introduced so many new characters that I thought they were gonna try to launch a spin off akin to Scrubs

Yea but it's also moronic that Michael displays incredible business acumen like 3 times out of nowhere when it's needed for plot purposes but then is professionally a drooling moronic for the other 98% of the show.

The show made a good job at explaining why Michael was in charge: he was a good salesman. I was more pleased with the writing showing that Jim was following his steps and was utterly incompetent as a manager as well

              >I thought they were gonna try to launch a spin off akin to Scrubs
They were. Dwight's sister and that farm gif were a cute.
              >"The Farm" was produced to serve as a backdoor pilot for a proposed spin-off series starring Wilson as Dwight, which NBC ultimately did not pick up. The episode received mostly negative reviews from television critics, with many criticizing Dwight's farm storyline and some critics calling it a "Frankenstein episode". The episode was viewed by 3.54 million viewers and received a 1.9/5 rating among adults between the ages of 18 and 49. The episode ranked fourth in its timeslot, and it was the highest-rated NBC series of the night.

        Anonymous

IMO Jim shoulda been the manager. Would've been an interesting dynamic to have a normal but maybe in over his head boss coupled with wacky employees. It would be a nice contrast because Michael was a wack ass who while a bad manager ultimately came through as opposed to Jim who maybe a good boss who tries honestly but can't make it work.

          Anonymous

This could have made a kino storyline where Jim becomes increasingly uptight and strict as the employees think they can get away with goofing off after watching him do it for years. Jim as a character was at his best when he loses control of a situation and can't joke his way out of it (Charles Miner arc, Michael dating Pam's mom, snowball fight with Dwight). It would have been great character development to force him to reevaluate his previous behavior now that he is on the receiving end of it. They hinted at this a little bit when he was co-manager with Michael, but they probably knew they couldn't keep his character on the back foot for long as the main demographic for the show was middle aged roasties who loved Jim for being a handsome Mary Sue. I'm sure the writers considered having Jim as the full manager, but the producers probably pushed back as anything that would make his character less likable would he bad for the shows ratings.

IMO they did a pretty good job explaining at how Michael was in the position he was. And why he succeeded every time he did

Basically there’s something called the Peter Principle. In which someone is promoted based on their success in roles in their previous position. Until they reach one in which they are just not good at or can’t get better in. So they’re stuck in it.

This is Michael Scott. He’s always shown as an amazing salesman. Which is how he became the youngest manager in the companies history. He lands customers everybody else deems impossible he remembers tiny details from customers personal lives which make them believe his pitch about their business having Customer service be better enough than a major firm to be worth it

However as a general manager he’s not great. Even with this, Dunder-Mifflin Scranton is somehow the only branch of the company still profitable as the seasons go on. With David Wallace genuinely asking Michael for tips on why this is. He has no idea obviously. But presumably this is just because Michael. Jim and Dwight are all very good salesman and given free reign to do whatever. And michaels unorthodox methods like movie Monday do increase productivity

Cinemaphile can shit on the actors all they want for capitalizing on being on The Office, but the fact is there are millions of lonely roasties willing to throw their money at anything associated with the show. Most of the casts were complete unknowns before getting casted and haven't done much else with acting since then, so I can't fault them for making easy money when the fans are pretty much begging them for product anway.
