He didn't. When the Lich first made his wish to Prismo to exterminate all life, Prismo granted it, and sent him to live in the world he created. Finn then made a wish that the Lich never existed. Granting this wish would result in a time paradox, so Prismo created an alternate reality to fulfill that wish, and sent Finn to live in that world. Jake then made a wish to change the Lich's wish to be send Finn and Jake home. Like Finn's wish, granting this would result in a time paradox, so Prismo created an alternate Ooo, Finn, and Lich to fulfill it, and sent Jake there.

This Lich is the original Lich, still wearing Billy's skin. The alternate Lich was purified and reborn as a giant baby. Finally, the Lich in the Farmworld universe that Finn created was defeated, then came back multiple times. Part of him was severed off and dumped into the multiverse, and tried to both control the giant baby and Death himself.

Wait so if The Lich just went to a seperate universe where he won, then why the frick did Finn and Jake bother "stopping him" by getting wishes that ultimately made things worse? Couldn't they just head back to their original universe and call it quits from there since The Lich is no longer a problem?

              Anonymous

It seems like not all wishes create a new universe or something like that. Otherwise, Finn and Jake would look stupid for making unnecessary wishes.

              Anonymous

Because they didn't know that. they showed up after the Lich made his wish, asked Prismo what his wish was and Finn instantly try to stop the Lich with his wish. Prismo only later told Jake that there always some ironic twist when he grant wishes.

              Anonymous

He didn't go to a separate universe. His wish wouldn't cause a time paradox, so it affected the regular Ooo. Finn and Jake's wishes would cause time paradoxes, so their wishes created separate universes.

            Anonymous

Prismo didn't create an alternate Ooo he just rewinded time in his time room

From what I gathered: he claimed he wanted to be omniscience, when he truly desired omnipotence. He's an hypocrite, in of itself. I like to believe he did achieved the former thanks to Edward, only to be completely and utterly consumed by Truth itself; which is poetic since he got unlimited knowledge at the cost of his own individual freedom.

Wasn't he supposed to be the cosmic embodiment of death and entropy or some shit? When did he become just a random sorcerer?

      As another anon stated from

      [...]

his last prayer originates from Orphism, right down to how he prostrates himself in prayer.

      Lich ver:
      >"You scattered the dark mist that lay before your eyes and, flapping your wings, you whirled about, and throughout this world you brought pure light."
      Original prayer:
      >You scattered the dark mist that lay before your eyes and, flapping your wings, you whirled about, and throughout this world you brought pure light. For this I call you Phanes, I call you Lord Priapos, I call you sparkling with bright eyes.

While I agree that more episodes were needed to drive home this revelation, you can't argue the writers were lazy with their research and reveal of new character motivations. This is a creation god mythos rarely done or even hinted at on mainstream television.

it was always a great show about heroism in the face of tragedy and the unknown. Referential material like Epictetus' Encheiridion was always there since season 1. It was an irl manual for stoics converted to a hero's handbook with plenty of esoteric texts in the show. It's okay if you like goyslop but don't be disingenuous about it.

              What book is that?

I think it was one of the anniversary books sold to collectors.

                > It was an irl manual for stoics converted to a hero's handbook with plenty of esoteric texts in the show.
Again, no, you're just a pretentious midwit who thinks talking about 'le occultism' and 'le greek stoic [random obscure philosophy of the week]' makes you some kind of deep thinker when in reality your 'esotericism' is about as deep as a puddle.

You're like the Cinemaphile version of those wannabe Hollywood 'buddhists'.

                >le greek stoic [random obscure philosophy of the week]'
So you don't deny that it was intentionally lifted from an irl work of philosophy going as far back as S1. Which goes back to what I originally stated, that this type of stuff was always embedded in AT. Great, good we had this chat anon.

No, you're just trying to spout superficial dressing to make yourself sound 'deep' and 'philosophical'. You are neither, and this show is about as 'philosophical' and 'esoteric' as a chocolate bar is a salad.

Tbh I was hoping he would kill the scarab guy in order to use his powers to essentially to become a larger threat across the multiverse by wiping the other universes that fiona and cake has visited. Whilst also absorbing the other versions of himself to obtain their powers to bring more chaos and death

I mean, I understand him hitting a brick wall. He essentially fulfilled the purpose he spent his entire existance working towards, and now he has frick-all to do.
If he gained access to the multiverse, what would he even do? Keep killing more? That would be impossible to take seriously. He would essentially be chipping away at an infinite wall and it would be obvious. Trying to make him a multi-cosmic threat would be stupid escalation as well. The Lich just reached the logical conclusion of existing in a multiverse- he cannot possibly do what he wants to do. His divinely ordained purpose amounts to nothing, and the force he worships is the blind idiot Azathoth-y GOLB. I found it all satisfactory and I'm happy with how everything ran.
