As iconic as this portrayal is, we're supposed to believe that this guy lived for many years as a practicing psychologist and everyone thought he was totally normal until he snapped and attacked someone.
Brian Cox's Hannibal is less cool overall but it seems more realistic to me. He seems normal enough that you can imagine him outside of the context of being an over-the-top evil genius movie villain.

Hopkins Hannibal is portrayed in a very super villain way, Cox's portrayal is a bit like "if Edmund Kemper" was an butthole type portrayal

He was too smart so he had to eat people for fun. Especially the rude ones. If there's one thing Hannibal hates its rudeness.
Anthony Hopkins does a great portrayal of the character here. Mads also does an amazing job on the NBC series. The entire Hannibal literary universe and cannon is actually pretty deep and interesting, and seeing it play out in different media formats is really cool. Each one influences the others.
