The whole future humans concept was kinda Deus ex machina, but I guess it's tolerable as a science fiction movie.

        >He thinks the tesseract scene is CGI
Nolan fricking hates CGI and will avoid using it unless it's a truly impossible effect.

            That's actually pretty cool

            Seriously? I thought everybody knew.
Check the making of of Christopher Nolan's movies, it's insane how much stuff actually happens in front of the camera.
For example, when the Bat plane flies above the cops, it's actually there. There is CGI, but its limited to deleting the wires and cables holding it up.
Same for lots of other effects. In Dark Knight, when the Joker's truck flips upside down, they actually did that but not in the city for safety measures. They then used effects to copypaste the truck in the city. Similar to what they did in Mission Impossible: Fallout, where Tom Cruise makes a halo jump over Paris: he wasn't allowed to jump over the actual Paris city, but the jump is real and the CGI just adds the Paris background.

they were near the planet. they could've done a simple scan. Hell, they could've just tell TARS to take one of the rovers and do a flyby and see what's going on. Why go down at all?
        >hurr durr there's water and good temps
what if the air is toxic? what if there's hurricane winds? why if the atmosphere is super saturated with steam (something that would've been obvious and visible from hundreds of thousands of km away)?

          > they were near the planet
They were outside its orbit. The very reason they didn't do a scan because they couldn't get close due to time dilation and I doubt "scans" would even work because of that.
          > what if the air is toxic? what if there's hurricane winds? why if the atmosphere is super saturated with steam
This is why you should pay attention to the movie. They were planning going in and getting out in 1 hour grabbing Miller and her data. What if it's toxic? Well no fricking shit that's what they were check with Miller. Doing flybys is even more moronic one of their biggest worries was fuel.

The only mistake they made was no immediately recognizing Miller was there only for a few hours(which they admit was a mistake in the movie itself).
          > Just those two facts
Plan B exists brainlet. That's why they were willing to take the risk. Why do so many "I heckin love soicence" cucks try so hard to show how they're smarter than movie characters because they know physics and shieeet while not paying attention to the plot at all?

moron, you could figure that the planet is a death world from far away just by thinking for a second, not to mention everything else, much less well known scientific facts.
            >(which they admit was a mistake in the movie itself).
            >We knew how much slower time on the planet, and we knew when the previous expedition went there, but we couldn't match those two facts together because we were in too much hurry to find the hospitable world, and that's why we spend dozens of years just to get to the planet's surface and back because there was 0.0000...0001% chance that this was the best planet for humanity to live on. Oopsie. :p
Movie pretend to be intellectual, but it's actually just "switch your brain off bro and enjoy theme park of muh heckin' SCIENCE! ride" type.

Not to mention what? Everything else you mentioned were exposed as you not paying attention to the movie. The one "criticism" that might even be valid was pointed out by me(which you now pretend was your biggest issue). The only thing you're capable of doing is constantly repeat "omg this is so dumb!" while missing basic plotpoints.
              > Movie pretend to be intellectual.
Like with every other homosexual who indulges in plothomosexualry, you're not smart you think the pinnacle of film discussion is pointing out plot holes or characters making mistakes that in your midwit mind you wouldn't have.

There are plenty of intellectual ideas present in the film(thematic and visual)but you're quite literally too dumb to engage with it in any meaningful manner.

Which is why I asked you your favourite sci-fi, so that we can apply your homosexual tier criticisms on them and see they hold up. And it's funny to me that you seethed about that Starshit film in a snarky manner in response because it's great showcase of the kind of moron that you're.

again, ANYTHING they could've achieved by landing could've been figured out by doing an orbital survey. In fact, if fuel AND time conservation is your goal, landing is the stupid choice
            >they know the planet has much stronger gravity than earth (requiring tons of fuel to escape velocity)
            >they know that b/c of relativity, hours spent at the surface will be years on Earth
So what do they do?? they (almost) blindly land on the planet just because 'HURR THAR BE WATER HERE', in the process guaranteeing a shit ton of fuel needed to escape the gravity well AND risking crazy time slippage, when they could have save a shit ton of fuel by analyzing the planet from orbit AND reduce the amount of time passed, since at those levels of relativity, the difference between the surface and just an orbital trip would've been huge

            Literal midwit movie

              Anonymous

Their plan was to investigate the signal, the water planet was the most recent. With the extreme time dilation they couldnt afford to stay in the orbit. They had to land. You're the midwit here.

              Anonymous

              > ANYTHING they could've achieved by landing could've been figured out by doing an orbital survey.
There's a reason why the endurance was parked outside of its orbit right? The minute you're in the orbit, time dilation kicks.
              > Anything
One of the things that Doctor Mann did in the Ice planet was to see if it can be hospitable beneath the surface. Do you think an orbital survey can do that? Now Orbital surveys won't give you any detailed data immediately. They can take days. That would literally be hundreds of years. Even if you do a survey from near the range you will not get any info back immediately because of the time dilation. That's why communication gets cut once they near the planets orbit. So is there a point in doing that or go in and get the data from the person already there? As I said in my previous response . The only mistake they made were not realising Miller was there for only a few hours. Mind you whatever data you could have theoretically using an orbital survey of a few hours, Miller would have that and more because her ranger has been there for the same amount of time and has been gathering data deep into the planet.
              > Literal midwit movie
You literally didn't pay attention to the movie. Not just that, the solution you provide is idiotic. If plothole/character mistake criticisms are bottom of the barrel, then your attempts at said criticisms aren't even scrapping the bottom of the barrel.

And btw, you didn't mention your favourite sci-fi films, too cowardly?
