In recent years, The Lighthouse, although that's debatable a horror film.

All time I'd probably go for The Thing, even though its a teevee meme

It's very good. I highly recommend it, especially if you watch it knowing nothing about it.

The Exorcist. It's a lame answer but it's the truth. It's a wonderful character driven drama with religious themes punctuated with moments of amazing practical effects. So many horror films put the horror elements first and the characters are afterthoughts. The Exorcist is the opposite.

The best part of the exorcist for me was the intro in Iraq. Barely a line of dialogue, but so much going on.

For example, the metal forgers clanging the hammers are a forshadowing of the radiation machine banging when used on Reagan later. Many such other examples. It's also not in the book beyond a few sentences, so we know the book really doesn't explain the things going on in the film

Are we calling Jaws a "horror" movie? Pretty tame really, more of an adventure movie I'd say.

It feels generic to say, but I still gotta go with The Exorcist. The characters feel organic and the build up is believable for a film dealing with some wild shit

Are any of you scarred by horror movies? In ever was no matter the movie - actually I laugh a lot.
Only thing that scares me is when demons hunt me at night and when they attack they tend to put this existential terror in your soul, as if they're going to devour you to oblivion.. but it's just larping on their side, they can't do that and God won't allow - still, that shit is scary in the real sense.
