How old are you?
Did you watch Seinfeld when it came out, in early reruns? Syndication? Streaming?
Seinfeld was groundbreaking for its time. The observational comedy? The jerkass main cast? The show about nothing?
>quantify the popularity of a TV show from 30 years ago in countries that don't even keep track of TV ratings
Best I can do is point out to you how everyone here recognises the show regardless of flag.

because this is an english-language board, and in any case it's objective fact that seinfeld was a flop in the uk, probably because from the british perspective it wasn't innovative at all

The Brits didn’t have a loicense to appreciate Seinfeld
Weirdly, Jason Aaron's Punisher. Deconstructing characters we already knew weren't admirable, but almost trying to rub it in our faces how bad they are and make us feel guilty for identifying with them.
Fun fact, Larry David and Jerry Seinfeld originally wanted to shoot it documentary style with no laugh track and the network told them they had to shoot in front of an audience like all their other sitcoms.
The network was right, making an audience laugh forces people to write jokes that work outside of a writer's room. That's why laugh-track-free sitcoms usually tank in reruns while Seinfeld and Friends keep making money (not that making money = quality though).
>that's why laugh-track-free sitcoms usually tank in reruns
It really is a shame that this is the case when normies decide to watch slop like the big bang theory or those nickelodeon shows over good shows (I know several people who still watch drake and josh and icarly), at least the laugh track died down but now every single show is trying to go for awkward anti-humour. I would say the US office is to blame but I'm not sure
It's partly the US Office (which basically uses the camera reactions/interviews as their laugh track) and partly the idea that laugh-track sitcoms are uncool, which means any show that wants to be cool and smart has no studio audience to tell them when they're not connecting with the Average Slob.
Basically the Frasier type of show is impossible to make now (I haven't seen the new Frasier). Today Seinfeld and David would get to do the show their way and it would be a very niche thing.
Friends isn't better, friends is the Christian wholesome version of How I Met Your Mother. Yes I'm aware Friends came out first but it's not half as good. Friends is so bad that if you take away the laugh track the show is in watchable.
Well that shows the age of Cinemaphile. Either the first ancient stegadons still wondering around or brats who think they are too smart for normie shows.
Not sure.
What makes the Seinfeld ending special is that
1. Many many fans hated, and
2. It's hard to argue in-universe against it, because those shitheads genuinely deserved to rot in jail.
"Fans hated it" and "but it does make sense" isn't a common combo on Cinemaphile.
>deserved to rot in gaol
Good Samaritan laws aren't felonies, at most you'd get fined and community service. Even with the daisy chain of character witnesses raking them over the coals, 99.9% of it would be inadmissable in court and it would be unconstitutional to upgrade their charges for it. Especially because it was in an entirely different state from New York.
In fact, I don't think they were guilty of any actual felonies back in NYC either. Minor misdemeanours, maybe, but nothing serious.
I think it's a funny joke to end the show on, but it wasn't realistic. Being a scumbag isn't a crime.
so The Rebirth from Transformers? >fans fricking hate it due to the poor animation and needing to introduce a frick-ton of characters in 3 episodes only >but the ending of it makes logical sense as a final to the show and you can't find any fault in the conclusion
I liked it.
Felt like a show that bowed out while it was still good instead of continuing until it became shit.
The ending itself is also fine, and the trial was a novel way to bring back a lot of characters from throughout the show. I mean seriously how else would you want it to end? Some heartfelt shit what feel forced and bad
After watching the show in syndication reruns in early 2000s and streaming binging later, the finale was great and a perfect send off.
But as a fan watching it through the 1990s and then watching the finale in May 1998, at the time we all thought it was such a disappointment.
We expecting their show to be picked up and become rich, or Jerry and Elaine to finally get together, or even someone die.we hated because we thought it was a terrible end for our favorite characters.
But watching the series again and you realize they were all self absorbed buttholes who deserved prison. And that all the various guest stars who came to the trial, were then innocent victims. And they deserved a win.
Sandman issue #75. Neil Gaiman compares himself to Shakespeare and whines about how much time writing takes.
The whole twist of Morpheus's deal with Shakespeare was he'd be the greatest writer ever but he wouldn't be present for his family and he would suffer from success. It explores nothing about Shakespeare only having 2 original plays and in Sandman, they were both commissioned by Dream and based on existing stories. So why not have the deal involve that Shakespeare could improve a story (like how the comic begins with Shakespeare submitting what would become the King James Bible which he is rumored to have authored) but he couldn't create one. But no, just a comic writer sucking his own dick because Wizard liked him.
Seinfeld is THE best sitcom of all time. Consistently funny throughout its entire run and never gets bad unlike so many others, and bows out in a way that makes sense for the characters
Adventure Time finale.
Samurai jacks original run last episode
Things Change.
The Clone High ending.
I don’t know, but what I do know is that the ending would have to be good
Why is Seinfeld so loved on Cinemaphile? It sucked shit. Even Friends is better.
Cuz Michael Richards yelled out racist slurs on stage
If that were true then
would've liked it
ZOOOOOOM
zoomers hate Friends dumbass
Zoomer here, i love both
Honestly i dont get this meme
I don't care for either, but Friends is one of the worst shows ever. Seinfeld is 10x better no matter how much you dislike it.
The phrase "even friends" implies he doesn't like friends either.
Yeah that's why he has none
How old are you?
Did you watch Seinfeld when it came out, in early reruns? Syndication? Streaming?
Seinfeld was groundbreaking for its time. The observational comedy? The jerkass main cast? The show about nothing?
You do realize
>it's time
was 35 fricking years ago right?
Fricking phones were revolutionary for their time too, and that was still a long goddamn time ago
>Seinfeld was groundbreaking for its time
if you were american
Seinfeld was ridiculously popular overseas too, europoor
[citation needed]

50% of site traffic is non-American.
>Seinfeld was groundbreaking for its time.
We no longer exist in its time.
We literally do because time is linear, you shitty little contrarian homosexual.
>Even Friends is better
AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
so you're a 40 something white woman?
I hate both of them, laugh track sitcoms suck

It's called Curb Your Enthusiasm.
Is Curb as good as Seinfeld? I keep meaning to watch it
It's sort of its own beast, but it still carries a lot of the same DNA.
?si=HlZMfFv_ZEf99rj2
I enjoy it, but season 11 felt really fricking stale. Must be why Larry's ending it for real this time with the upcoming season.
Might check it out. Where's a good place to watch it?
Anyone got a mega?
Seinfeld is more consistent and funny in the long run, but Curb does sometimes have some really good ones every once in a while
I strongly dislike both. Frasier was my shiz, tho.
NuFrasier not so much.
Good taste, my homie.
Frasier was the shit, good taste
You as well brother
End yourself.
>Friends is better.
normies are not welcome here (and I dont like seinfield)
Both take the knee to the all-time best.
this anon gets it
Seinfeld's still good though
I lived golden girls and almost all of them could get it.
ENTER
TOSSED SALAD
They look kind of generic.
Try watching sitcoms before Seinfeld came out.
Night and day difference.
Because it's a funny show
I sure hope that's not the A material.
Yeah, what's the deal with Seinfeld?
These ones are good imo
Friends isn't better, friends is the Christian wholesome version of How I Met Your Mother. Yes I'm aware Friends came out first but it's not half as good. Friends is so bad that if you take away the laugh track the show is in watchable.

Calm down Michelle
Well that shows the age of Cinemaphile. Either the first ancient stegadons still wondering around or brats who think they are too smart for normie shows.
NO (YOU) FOR YOU
I forget, why did they all end up in jail?
They watched and laughed at someone getting mugged without helping and the state they were in had the good Samaritan law.
Did the mugger get arrested...?
He testified against then
You forget the part where every person they fricked over showed up to testify against them.
Last issue of cerebus
Seinfeld ended?
Whatever Happened to the Caped Crusader?
Personally, I prefer the truly great sitcom.
lois is getting a real handful there
me? im partial to the only truly great sitcom
Here is the thing, I liked Seinfeld ending.
Not sure.

Not even the theft of Rye Bread?
Misdemeanour. Wouldn't even get prison time for it.
>Being a scumbag isn't a crime.
I wish more judges had this mentality. Would help clear out some court cases to make room for actual crimes.
so The Rebirth from Transformers?
>fans fricking hate it due to the poor animation and needing to introduce a frick-ton of characters in 3 episodes only
>but the ending of it makes logical sense as a final to the show and you can't find any fault in the conclusion
It really only counts as an ending in the west, Japan got a whole new show after S3 instead
Sure is comics and cartoons in here
aqua teen hunger force
I liked it.

Is Bee Movie the only Cinemaphile thing Seinfeld did?
the Hellboy/BRPD ending
ATLA

Uncle Grandpa.
The whole cast gets eaten while Uncle Grandpa tells you the show is over.
Sym-bionic Titan
Huh
The Simpsons never ending.
