Not sure about that. It was basically normal for the Greeks and Romans, and they built, democracies, republics, and vast empires.
Then it went away with the weakness of Christianity.

Amos is basically the Platonian UberMan, an artifact from another time. If he was educated, he'd be an Alexander, a Caesar.

Genuine psychopathy bizarrely coupled with a hero complex and just enough self awareness.

He wants to do good but has no concept of what that is, so he places his trust in other people to drive him toward goodness.

He definitely has empathy for certain people (kids for example). He's just emotionally broken and a full-blown sociopath.

        >a full-blown sociopath

No he still has emotions and a conscience. He's just had so much practice with disassociation and compartmentalizing emotions he can "become" a sociopath when the situation calls for it.

So much trauma he's become very adept to going the quiet place in his head.

          Anonymous

Nope. Many times he says he doesn't know how to feel in situations with people and will just smile because it calms people even if he's going to kill them. And he looks to Naomi and Holden as a guide on what to do in situations because he'll too often just jump to 11 and go to far. His conscience is mainly limited to not seeing vulnerable people being abused

Season 4 is a large departure from the first 3 seasons but still very good.

The departure is aligned with the book Cibola Burn, nothing to do with the change from Syfy to Amazon.

          Martian marines train in 1G.

            Anonymous

Yes, but they're still overwhelmed by Earth gravity and Earth's sunlight. It's like training with a 20lb vest when you work out vs suddenly being forced to wear that vest 24/7 and also someone is shining a flashlight in your eyes.

The Martian marines are basically a joke, the only chance Mars has at beating Earth comes from its fleet.

Which to be fair is a big fricking chance.
Any real war between the two major superpowers would be decided in space, and then delivered to the planet below by the dominant fleet.
The odds of a land war on Earth are nearly nil. Iirc the real Earther advantage comes from being able to sustain a higher rate of acceleration for longer. Their ships can get where they need to be faster, and can maneuver more aggressively when they do. Martians train at 1g functionally to counter that advantage and because it sounds good on paper for propaganda. In the books it's specified that the golden rate of acceleration for comfort and speed is 1/3 to 1/2 g for martian and mixed crews like the Roci, and belter-crewed ships often run at 1/16 g because they can't afford to go any faster.

She does say they train in 1G since they're always preparing for war with Earth. They have issues due to the open sky, intense sunlight, and real gravity causing disorientation. They only ever live under domes and closed structures on mars. She's never even seen an ocean before.

Then why didn't the Earther detective in season one go Kryptonian on the Belters trying to kill him?

            Anonymous

Are you moronic? The detective was a belter too, he just made a point of acting like an earther. They bring it up like 5 times.

Which to be fair is a big fricking chance.

To be fair, I don't think the martian marines were ever intended to go boots on the ground on earth. Any environment in which they could have been deployed to the surface would have been one where they already won well before then.

He convinced a man not to murder the pedo doctor who molested that man's daughter, because he knew that man was a good person who couldn't kill someone in cold blood. Then he shot the pedo in the face personally, because he knew the pedo needed to die, and as a dude with a ton of blood on his hands already there was no weight on his conscience for killing the pedo. Amos had no problem, he was simply too based for the story he was in.

Wes Chatham did 4 in the US Navy because he liked Top Gun.

He's a character that with wrong casting could've easily been insufferable.

The actor started doing a podcast with one of the original authors of the books after they wrapped the show. They go into a lot of behind the scenes details about Amos especially and how they ended up casting him even though he didn't have the right look at all, just because when he auditioned he was the only guy who didn't deliver his lines like he was making threats.
