Not J Law, not her stupid love interest with Beast, not her being the reason he's blue, not her saying "we're X-Men", not her saying the "X-Women" line, none of it. Rebecca was literal villain PERFECTION and they threw it away.
Not every character needs a detailed backstory, and not every character needs an explanation for what/why they are doing something. This is a good example of that. It worked much better in the first movies because she was just there with Magneto already.
Because J Law was an A-list celebrity and they couldn't figure out how to give her more screen time as a villain so they just made the franchise revolve around her
