that cut away from aragorn's "WHAT SAY YOU?" and then not picking that story back up until they arrive at the battle works so much better than how it plays out in the extended version

Remastered Bluray Trilogy. Looks absolutely stunning now that it's properly color graded and all shitty filters removed. Especially the fellowship of the ring as it has the least amount of green screen scenes.
>What's the best version to watch of the Lord of the Rings movies?
The extended cut of Return of the King is mandatory. The other two can be theatrical if you must.
>fellowship of the ring extended >"here's some extra worldbuilding or quiet character moments" >two towers extended >"here's some worldbuilding but some dimwitted action scenes as well" about 50% is unnecessary >return of the king extended >"DUDE GIMLI AND LEGOLAS BURPING AND CRINGING WHILE STEPPING ON SKULLS OR SKULL AVALANCHE OR GIMLI NUDGING THE BOW OR THE DEAD TROLLING ARAGORN XDDD"
It's your choice what to do with TTT, but for the love of god don't watch Return of the King extended. The majority of extended the scenes should've been deleted scenes, and contribute nothing for the story.
Yeah, there's a couple of good extended scenes in RotK, but it's jarring how most either miss their mark or add nothing.
Like even something like the witch king exploding Gandalf's staff not only adds nothing but also makes it more noticeable the fellbeasts are mysteriously not present during the Rohirrim's charge.
Which are the most worth-watching extended scenes? I can only think about the "she gave me 3" Gimli scene in Fellowship and the Mouth of Sauron in Return
I much prefer the extended cut of Fellowship, but theatrical of the other two, especially RotK. For me, the extended cuts add too much humour to the latter two films.
I’ve watched the Extended version so many times that when I catch the Theatrical version on tv it just feels wrong.
The only issue with the Extended is the scene where the Witch King BTFOs Gandalf, otherwise Extended is the only was to watch this
I still watch the DVD extended editions i bought when they came out.
Is it worth dling the 4k rips, as they look washed-out to frick on the screen shots?
depending on the model Bravias tend to have good upscaling, so it's not as big an issue as that guy makes out. On newer ones I think it's called reality creation in settings so make sure that's on high.
I found the special extended edition DVD in the street. Complete with booklets and stuff. I actually got the final battle of Return of the King and didnt want to finish it. So I didnt. its long.
IMO watch the theatrical versions first. The extended editions have a lot of extra content, but it really drags the movies out and some of it won't make any sense unless you've read the books. If you have read the books though, then go ahead and watch the extended editions.
The Extended cuts are objectively worse. It's fun to have more content for serious LOTR fans but they detract from the feel and cohesiveness of the theatrical trilogy, come on.

The definitive LOTR experience is the first Theatrical Edition Bluray release. The extended editions are horrible with disgusting color grade. The 4k version is not as bad as the original EE but look lifeless and grey compared to the TE bluray.
Aside from the color, the theatrical editions are the ones with Jackson's stamp of approval. He himself says it is definitive and the EE is simply a novelty for fans. The pacing of the TE is perfect, scenes like Sauromons death are cool but ultimately unnecessary and slow down the pace. Fellowship is perfect in the TE, but feels bloated in EE. Same goes for ROTK.
