He also made it his life's goal to destroy every bit of Shooter's legacy he could get his hands on like the Legion and so on.

Which considering Byrne was constantly trying to do moronic shit or turning shit in late, and once fricked up so bad he managed to cause a deal where Marvel was going to buy like 80% of DC's most iconic IPs to fall through by being an autistic homosexual trying to get one over on Shooter, was justified.

The problem is that he's spouting this shit while talking about characters that he's only refused to kill or tried to paint as deserving of forgiveness and redemption because he intends to keep them around for that one more totally epic idea that's gonna make jaws drop and sell thousands of books. Not because he's actually writing stories about how the villains deserve forgiveness, just that he likes how high minded and philosophical it sounds to blather on about those topics. And then he goes and shoots those villains in the face once he's out of ideas.
Redemption doesn't come when you fix what you did wrong, that's just returning to the baseline. No, you have to go above and beyond and STAY there to be redeemed. Piccolo doesn't get redeemed just because he decided to not conquer the world, it was only after he was willing to sacrifice himself to save the world that he was truly redeemed.
