Same, I was a little less than a year old when it premiered, so I obviously didn’t see it then. But I also probably first saw the show around 2002 or 2003. I swear Bubble Stand was the first episode of SpongeBob I saw.
I don’t fricking know I was likely a baby or toddler when I would’ve first seen a rerun of it (I was born well after it premiered so I didn’t see it new
God, I would've been tiny except not really, because my dad gave me X-man-level tall-guy genes (but the weaker version, 'cause he's only 6'4" and from a family of 6'8"+'s)
However, this was the first episode to air when the show started airing regularly, because after May 1st, 1999, the show didn't air again until July 17th, 1999 when it officially premiered
I fricking hated it back then. Thought everyone was annoying. I used to zap to any other channel when this was on. I rediscovered it a good decade later as a teenager and was blown away by its relaxing atmosphere and clever writing.
It always feels strange to me that this is the first plankton episode. You'd think sneaking into sponebob's head and hijacking his brain would be something they'd come up with later on
the promo for the first episode is burned into my brain for some reason: "his shows a real hoot / he lives in a fruit / spongebob squarepants bit sneak peek/ right after kids choice"
As shitty as the actual special was, a promo for Atlantis Squarepantis had a jingle about it premiering at "Monday at 9:00" which is burned into my memory to this day for some reason (the specific date was Monday November 12, 2007 at 9:00AM)
While the promo for the first airing of the show was in the tune of Camptown Races, the promo advertising the shows official premiere (as in, the show airing regularly) began with the entirety of the shows theme song
Not sure about this specific episode, but I definitely remember the first time I saw Spongebob back around that time. >be me >be 1999/2000 >go to woman's house to fix her photocopier >she ran a business from home >fricking copier was old piece of shit and needed to order parts, and needed repeated attention, so got to know her a bit over time >divorced single mother >two daughters 9 and 11, (same father) >father long gone out of the picture, (in prison in another country) >mother is working downstairs and daughter tells me that her Mom invited me to stay for dinner >near dinnertime anyway >why not? >never thought much of it >daughter tells me she's busy and I should wait with them in the living room >they had Nickelodeon >I had never seen it before >Spongebob theme starts playing >"Are you ready kids?" >"Aye aye Captain!" >"Oooooooh who lives in a pineapple under the sea ... " >totally hooked from the first second >thought it was the funniest shit I'd ever seen >Mom comes upstairs and finds me there with kids LMAO at Spongebob >looks a little confused >we have dinner >wind up getting married about a year later >a couple of years after that telling people how we first met >find out she never invited me for dinner >figure out stepdaughters conspired and lied to get me to stay >walked into a literal parent trap >those fricking cheeky little monkeys >though Spongebob has to take some of the blame because wife thought it was cute when she found us watching Spongebob >wife thought I just somehow just invited myself to dinner and just went along with it
Annoyingly long story but it’s very cute your stepdaughters lied their mom asked you to stay because they wanted you to be their new father because you watched cartoons with them
why?
I want to have a conversation about SpongeBob?
No, no, there's a reason why you'd want to know such an answer. We know you're up to something, OP. I suggest you make this easy and confess.
I want to know if anyone here is old enough to remember this episode when it premiered. Bubblestand premiered on July 17, 1999
i was 4 (days) old, so no, i do not recall such a premiere. i watched spongebob pretty early though, like 2003 or 2004.
Same, I was a little less than a year old when it premiered, so I obviously didn’t see it then. But I also probably first saw the show around 2002 or 2003. I swear Bubble Stand was the first episode of SpongeBob I saw.
Yeah my whole family and cousins watched it together on vacation, it ruled
When it aired.
The tiny tim segment blew my little mind and I forever hate that they never brought that type of energy back to the show.
that was the pilot
I don’t fricking know I was likely a baby or toddler when I would’ve first seen a rerun of it (I was born well after it premiered so I didn’t see it new

What a neurotic thing to say
I was like four but I'm sure I was already watching then, and if not then surely for reruns within the next few years
don't remember but it's likely I first saw it on the first season DVD
Right when it aired. I was only 5 at the time but the promos for the show are still fresh in my mind
So Help Wanted was the first episode to air
However, this was the first episode to air when the show started airing regularly, because after May 1st, 1999, the show didn't air again until July 17th, 1999 when it officially premiered
The dream episode is the comfiest one
I fricking hated it back then. Thought everyone was annoying. I used to zap to any other channel when this was on. I rediscovered it a good decade later as a teenager and was blown away by its relaxing atmosphere and clever writing.
Season 1 in general is really good at capturing a calming atmosphere that no season since has been able to capture imo
when it aired, probably. idk.
Probably on a rerun. The first Spongebob episode I remember catching live was Plankton. Must have been 3 years old?
It always feels strange to me that this is the first plankton episode. You'd think sneaking into sponebob's head and hijacking his brain would be something they'd come up with later on
Y'know I always assumed F.U.N. was his first appearance until recently
the promo for the first episode is burned into my brain for some reason: "his shows a real hoot / he lives in a fruit / spongebob squarepants bit sneak peek/ right after kids choice"

About 2002, when I was 11 & my family had regular access to cable TV.
Not sure about this specific episode, but I definitely remember the first time I saw Spongebob back around that time.

1999
When it came out
I saw the premiere
During a rerun around 2004-2005 ish. I was a little too young to witness the show’s premiere as an early zoomer.
Probably when I was 5. Also I read this was listed as the first episode for some reason
