i always found it interesting how they never really tried to hide the fact most of the filming was done in Doug's gaudy little ranch home. like they had some green screen shit and then it's back to mom's horribly decorated living room. it's like no one thought "oh just filming in this horribly painted hallway with no particular angle or framing in mind is fine". there's tongue in cheek sure.... but why not at least try for a bit of effort?

At this point I don't know what anyone really expects Doug to do, like he's tried plenty of other businesses and spinoffs and the only thing that sticks is Nostalgia Critic, and it pays the bills so that's probably what he's going to keep on doing, I mean why would he stop?

I wonder what happened to this dude after the movie. Did he ever said what did he thought about it?

He's still around and still doing the Molassia thing as a silly sort of hobby, he still puts out monthly newsletters and stuff about the affairs of his "nation" it's basically a dressed up version of those family websites boomers used to make in the 2000s. He seems like a happy guy with a loving family.

Which was more devastating for its creator’s reputation: Nostalgia Critic’s The Wall, or A Movie Making Nerd by James Rolfe?

The Nerd movie was a bigger disaster tbh

        Anonymous

The Nerd movie changed a lot. First it was Mike stepping up to make videos by himself while James was busy, and revealing himself to be an absolute manchild with a 10 year old sense of humor. The movie was bad and James’ biggest fans had to pretend to like it. Now he’s a balding old man with his equipment duck taped to his ceiling and he has to film nerd episodes with one static camera angle because he can’t be bothered to move stuff around. The non-AVGN videos, which used to be creative and passionate, are now just James reading Wikipedia articles so he can get in the number of ad reads per year he’s supposed to.

        Some highlights:
        >James devotes a chapter to what he did on 9/11. It’s not anything different than what anyone else did on 9/11.
        >He explains how he got in trouble in his special ed school because he didn’t tell the bus drivers that he got a ride from someone else that day, and one of the bus drivers said a curse word in frustration. Then James kicked a window in his school out of anger.
        >He tells the story of getting kicked out of his film school for making a “documentary” of his roommates trashing their dorm. Then James “attempted suicide” while on a beach trip with his parents by trying to drown himself, before realizing that he had a choice between game over and continue, and he chose continue.
        >He refers to Mike Matei as “Matei” throughout the entire book for some reason.

          why would he do this
          >tried to kill himself over film school
          That's extraordinarily lame
          >Matei

Reminds me of when Baldwin shot that person and lots of people were trying to say it was okay because it happened while filming a movie and wasn't intentional, like 'filming a movie' invalidates laws.

                >Manslaughter doesn't count if you did it for a movie.
He was the one that pulled the trigger of his own free will. It's no more simple than that. And fun fact, Baldwin was also a producer so even if you try to say someone else is at fault, he still holds the ultimate responsibility for hiring decisions and set safety.

                Anonymous

The first rule of gun safety is to treat every firearm like it's loaded
Its the responsibility of the person holding the gun to load the gun, you're not supposed to hand a loaded gun to someone. It's standard protocol for the first person to open the action and show it's clear before handing it over, then the person it is handed to opens the action and double checks for themselves that it is clear. Even as far as it being a prop and some producer demanding it not go through this protocol because they didn't trust the actor, it's still on Baldwin for no checking the gun when he received it.

Kek, hilarious. I'm sure he just had another friend named Mike so he started calling MM Matei to differentiate them, but it's far funnier to think he's terrified of Mike and refers to him by his last name as a sign of superiority and respect. I'm not looking them up, but I know there are a couple clips of James flinching when Mike moves because people liked to pretend he was a psychopath behind the scenes.
