Agreed, I like that, unlike SpongeBob or even bugs bunny, it’s a lot easier to put Mickey and his friends in different situations/settings without it feeling weird

Then in the 40's he had more three dimentional ears and buck teeth for some reason which lasted only three shorts.

Because lore is too important to modern writers and children who grow up watching five nights at Freddy’s speculation videos on YouTube. No one is going to accept that the character is just an actor and they the premise of the short isn’t real, it all needs to “matter.”
I don't hate the design they did with these cartoons, but I hope they retire it now that they're over.
Mickey is too skinny, Donald is too angular and Goofy is a bad design.
the 2013 redesign is way too "ren and stimpy" for me.
those old cartoons were state of the art animation. at the time they were produced, nobody could possibly do any better. The Mad Doctor was as much about showing off spooky wind effects and having Mickey crawl through a 3D hallway, as it was about saving Pluto. you'd watch them and get the sense that no expense was shared.
these 2013 cartoons were pretty good but had this look of cheapness about them. and that's kind of what we have now in animation, people finding ways to cut corners.
that's the difference between the 1920s and the 2020s.

Classic black and white Mickey, I feel that he has a wider appeal for both to kids and adults while the later feels so exclusively targeted towards little kids and toddlers

There's definitely been way more than 2 designs. Even Steamboat Willie was given a new slightly new appearance after Plane Crazy (check the shoes)

Poor Mickeys going through an intense identity crisis.

Peach skin Mickey is unironically far cuter.

I always liked the 1940’s-mid1980’s look, his eyes we’re slightly different than the modern design and it was always a pleasing aesthetic to me
his pupils used to be smaller, or were they larger?
His eyes in general were smaller in relation to his head, modern style Mickey has much larger eyes

Walt didn't like the idea of cartoons being for children, and they weren't really. They were generalised things to chuckle and marvel at.
