Tai Lung wouldn’t have been in the wrong if he didn’t tard out and start targeting civilians. Story-wise that part just felt forced.

Imagine a version of the movie where he simply just ran away, and then came back later to challenge Po.

Then he wouldn't be evil if he just ran away. Disgraced, sure. But not evil. Which means his death by Po would have been unjustified.

He still broke out of prison and killed most of the guards.

Why would he even be in prison if he didn't attack the villagers? Isn't that the entire fricking reason he was locked up? If he just ran away, then he didn't commit a crime.

I wonder why people have such a hard time thinking him sperging out and going on a rampage is out of character for him

he is literally patterned after the arrogant kung fu master archetype, shi fu admits that both he and tai lung were blinded by pride
and given his near-single minded pursuit of the scroll even if it means killing shi fu in the present, it stands to reason he had that same attitude in the past which led to the rampage

I think you're confused. I'm not arguing it's out of character, I'm arguing that him attacking the villagers was essential to the story.

      >Story-wise that part just felt forced.
tai lung was literally being a baby that he was denied the thing he trained for, because shi fu never considered that his pride in his student was overriding the possibility that his student was equally as prideful

in case you missed it, shi fu literally apologizes for it

i remember listening to the audio commentary of this movie and iirc they specifically put the shots of him attacking the civilians in because they realised he was too sympathetic. they needed a reason for him to be in the prison, and even be seen as a villain at all.

so it was literally forced, yes.

Tai Lung. Instead of looking inward to understand why he was not worthy, he lashed out and proved how unworthy he truly was.

Its still Tai Lung. He may have been raised by Shifu to hopefully become the dragon warrior, but that doesn't mean he should throw an autistic fit and try to kill people just because Oogway said no.

It's not like he was a moronic kid anymore, he was an adult who should've known that Shifu was just mistaken and promised him something that he wasn't at liberty to give.

I don't know why the blame is put on Shifu for the way he raised Tai Lung. Sure sure, he was blinded by pride, but he genuinely believed that Tai Lung was destined to be the Dragon Warrior, and his upbringing was a result of that. The only thing Shifu did wrong was turning his back on Tai Lung after he was rejected by Oogway.
Speaking of which, where the frick was Oogway that entire time? Did he seriously just sit by for Tai Lung's entire life doing jack shit to teach him properly until it was time to tell him that he wasn't the Dragon Warrior? Because if Shifu was raising Tai Lung wrong, Oogway should have fricking corrected him.

There was a wide spectrum of things Tai Lung could've done after getting the bad news ranging from nothing to punching a wall. Going on a killing spree was a bit of on overreaction, even if he was told all his life he'd get the thingy.

Tai Lung is an adult. Shifu might have goofed but he's still accountable for his own actions. Getting an ego isn't an excuse.
