Mike would quiet literally oneshot him, not only because he is strong, but because he is an actual fighter not an actor

This is true but Lee would still have the upper hand on an average untrained person, and for that matter, most other actors.

        >vs Mike Tyson
He would have no meaningful advantage at all and Mike might actually have killed him in a single punch and I'm not even saying that to disparage Lee. Tyson outweighed Lee by like 100 lbs. A hit from him couldve literally put Lee in a wheelchair for life.

Serious answer, Tyson only need one hit.
Issue is that he's disciplined to move his leg in a certain way that keeps them on the ground completely open. Lee can just go for the legs for an easy target

Strength always triumphs over technique despite what the movies and high school kids say. In the same way nature triumphs nurture. Most of existence is invariables and universals.

I'd lose to both but Tyson wins over all.

Boxing and wrestling both give you the necessary building blocks for that. Some seasoned MMA fighter would beat a boxer, sure, but that's not the point.
If all you did was train Kung Fu, it won't give you an edge over a boxer.

So it's about the weight/height of the guy rather than the technique?
In that case, wouldn't a 200lb karate blackbelt beat the shit out of a 150lb boxer?

Yes? Who told you it wouldn't? The boxer is very much limiting himself by not knowing or using kicks. They add a lot of reach and are very powerful.

Karate has been used by successful mma champions, the real reason is a ton of karate schools were just bullshido dojos cashing in on the ninja craze of the 80s. Boxing and wrestling have tons of practice against resisting opponents which is what really matters in a fight.

Nah, without any technique it could go either way, but I'd give the edge to Lee.
Realistically, all you need to KO someone is 1 good shot, that's it. A well placed shot in the sternum is already half the battle won. So an untrained opponent is a rather easy target.

Boxers train by actually fricking hitting each other. This makes them really good at actually fricking hitting each other. It also causes chronic brain damage, which is a real b***h.

Kung fu, karate and TKD boys rarely (and sometimes literally NEVER) fight each other like they actually fricking mean it. They're a lot less likely to get injured, but it's not building solid fight experience and fails to weed out the shit that doesn't work from their styles.

kung-fu is basically a dance based on the remnants of chink religion

Kung Fu isn't even a martial art and I don't know why people ended up believing it is. It's the idea of studying a martial art, not a martial art itself. It's a giant umbrella term. Boxing would be considered that.

mike tyson obliterated an all time great cruiserweight in michael spinks in under a round, but a small chinese actor that weighs 90 pounds less than him and doesn't have any recorded wins to his name is going to beat him with his kung fu kicks and funny screams? seems like a reasonable take.

Nah, without any technique it could go either way, but I'd give the edge to Lee.
Realistically, all you need to KO someone is 1 good shot, that's it. A well placed shot in the sternum is already half the battle won. So an untrained opponent is a rather easy target.

Big man wins it, anyone saying otherwise has watched too much anime.

Doesn't matter boxing, mma, no rules gutter fight its the same outcome. Playing it defensively Mark Hunt style would help the odds aswell but so long as Mike didn't gas in 30 seconds by coming out if the hole like a maniac its over in boxing. In MMA all he would need to do is close the distance and clinch/lean on Bruce Lee for a round or two until thier knees are ready to collapse. In a street fight he could literally overhead press him up and snap him over his fricking knee, game over.

Brainlets don't know weight classes are a thing for good reason.

Wait a minute. Didn't Muhammad Ali get embarrassed by some karate guy once because that dude kept attacking his legs and Ali just didn't know how to defend against it? I know I've seen footage of that somewhere. Not saying Bruce could do that to Tyson, since Tyson was bigger and stronger than Ali and Bruce isn't exactly known for Muay thai style leg attacks, but maybe it's not as lopsided as one might at first suspect.

By the time they get to stand in front of the sensei they've looked up to for so long and felt all the hype of, they'll do whatever the frick he wants them to do, sometimes through literal choreographing or through careful suggestion or even just peer pressure of "Everyone believes he can do it, and I can't let my sensei down!"

Tyson. He's got a massive size advantage and strength advantage. The only chance Lee would have is trying to outlast Tyson until he got tired. Tyson had incredible strength but not stamina so he's go all out and end his fights quickly before it became a factor. The fights Tyson actually did lose were typically because his opponent outlasted him. Still, one good hit and Lee is done.

They would not fight, they weren't in the same weight class.
Tyson was heavyweight. Lee was... medium? bantam? feather weight?
But putting that aside let us consider some factors:
Lee was fast, but so was Tyson.
Lee did have some Judo training, he demonstrates an arm bar in Enter the Dragon - Gene Lebelle claims to have taught him, make of that what you will.
The big factor though is Lee did not have full contact experience. He spared and trained in full contact with people like Dan Inosanto and Joe Lewis - the white karate fighter not the black boxer - did credit Lee for teaching him things he used in fights, but ultimately Lee did not have full contact experience and all plans end when you get hit in the face as Tyson said.
So _if_ Lee had grappling experience he _might_ have been able to _attempt_ to take Tyson down to the ground. Or he could have tried to use kicks to strike and maintain distance.

Styles makes fights too. Tyson camp knew Tyson all wrong for Foreman when Foreman came out of retirement . You go straight at Foreman, one strongest HWs ever, you’re done. If Bruce Lee was still alive he would've changed his whole style to what you see on UFC today, he has never said his style was the best and never said you should totally follow his teaching, instead he was encouraging anybody to learn more, he wanted to learn more too and was always welcoming new techniques ( high kick for example was taught to him by Chuck Norris). "Jet Kun Do" means the style without style, if you know a better way to fight just learn it, he wanted to be an all rounder, he wanted to learn the most efficient way to strike for any situation.

That said a single punch of Mike during his prime and by prime I'm calling the time before he met Don King, would've shaken anybody.

      Anonymous

jeet kune do means intercepting fist, aka a built in strategy to react to your opponents attack aka a style.

He advocated to try and be formless, styleless, but also recognized that learning new techniques wne faster through the structure of a style.

That's the real shit tho. If you commit to boxe or muay thay at early age you may become a beast in fights, but nothing else. Ever saw kid in Thailand that pratice since age 3? At 12/14 they have not one teeth in their mouths and their nose is one piece of fused bone from the forehead to their mouths, no cartilage in it.

True. Media hasn't caught up to reality. In fact, it stubbornly refuses to do so. People want to believe in the Kung fu fantasy.

What exactly do you think is somehow un-useful in combat about kicking? Boxing cuts out most things useful in real combat because it's a sport about just punching, doofus.

        See

        Lack of meaningful sparring.

A kick in the nuts is the nuke of close-quarters combat.

People associate kicks with high kicks because they're stupid
You say "kick" and then stomp on somebody's knee and people will get confused

People don’t want to kick in a fight, especially not high, because they can fall. If you fall you get kicked to death

In real life fights the issue is just that the moment where they can be used effectively is tiny compared to the moment when you can punch, knee, elbow and wrestle someone. Its not like in professional sports where people are standing in front of you waiting for a moment to strike or counter your strike and eventually they make the mistake of stepping into your kicking range, they're often just coming at you in a blind rage and close the distance and never give it back.

This still cracks me up. Most overrated b***h Rhonda Rousey thinking she could put strike a kickboxing and boxing champion in Holly Homes

it's kinda crazy how nothing else matters in an unarmed fight other than who's taller
martial arts, technique, etc. it's all bs for show

im 6'2 so i could easily fold 6'0 or 6'1 mma fighter, but the moment a dude one inch taller than me steps in it's over. same applies to him.

I’m guessing in this picture you’re supposed to be the little girl? Do you find yourself self-inserting as little girls often?

That’s not accurate at all. A inch is a negligible difference. You’d be pretty much the same size unless have a freakishly longer reach

angular momentum alone can frick people up, but 2 inches is not enough.

Technique does matter. Lots of tall fighters don’t know how to fight tall. Smaller fighters don’t know how to fight small. Your smaller, feint a lot. They think you’re going this way but going that way to close the gap and get your punches off. Easier said than done

Lee unironically because he can kick. Mike isn't trained for kicking and will instinctively only use his arms.

Excerpt from Robert Clause on the topic of Bruce Lee fighting Muhammad Ali:
    >Bruce’s right hand followed Ali’s right hand, Ali’s left foot followed Bruce’s left foot. Bruce was fighting in Ali’s shoes. “Everybody says I must fight Ali some day.” Bruce said, “I’m studying every move he makes. I’m getting to know how he thinks and moves.” Bruce knew he could never win a fight against Ali. “Look at my hand,” he said. “That’s a little Chinese hand. He’d kill me."

Now the obvious retort is "But that's Ali, Tyson's got nothing on Ali."
Tyson was literally all of Ali's worst fears combined - nearly as fast as him, power puncher like Foreman and Shavers, and an aggressive counter-puncher who was trained by the guy who knew the counter to the Ali Shuffle.

In simple terms, it's perfectly reasonable to put Tyson within the same echelon as Ali. If Ali could frick up Lee, Tyson sure as shit would eat him alive.
