I watched a video on the incident. There was a dozen of factors that caused it : the terror attack that overcrowded the airport, the fog, the second plane not following the instructions to exit the runway, faulty communication beween spanish and english, radio interferences, the KLM company's requirements, and his colleagues not having the guts to tell him to wait for a clearer answer.

Watched all the the seasons of Air Disasters last year. Good news is, every error, mechanical or human, leads to a universal change in aircraft and procedure so the same problems are very unlikely to happen again. Which technically means air travel is only getting safer. I still won't fly ever again because there's always that chance of a novel error happening that hasn't happened before that is unique to a certain aircraft or unique human error. That plus the increasing number articles calling for more diversity in the wienerpit, so pilots of the future are all an equally different skin tone whether they are the most qualified to fly the plane or not
