Like everything else these days, mediocre writers.
*female writers
>*female writers
Mediocre female writers that make the soi boys make mediocre simp shit in the writers room zoom discord or whatever the frick they use these days but yeah I agree it's toothless and boring.
Same thing.
This. They literally hired an Australian rapper to write on the show. The show almost feels it was written by an AI because it is so formulaic
Pretty much yeah. First season was pretty fun. But every season after was just aaaaaall over the place. They would introduce a decent plot line then just abandon it for 4 episodes doing the most random shit. They kept adding new annoying characters and kept pushing annoying recurring characters. They had so much potential. There was a clear story they set up but just walked away from. So disappointed.
TV writing is so bad because of the writers strike and the feminization of society which evaluates all criticism, even constructive criticism, as literally abusive. You can't tell anyone that they're a shit writer anymore because then you're just a hater. Objectivity (competence, really) is white male oppression
Didn't I read this exact post just yesterday?
Maybe go outside and talk to real people, might improve your mental stability.
Did his criticism hurt your feelings, perhaps?
based and correct pilled
There is something really pathetic about adult men watching cartoons
Cry some more about it
You are right I shouldn't judge. I hope you and your wife's son have a lot of fun watching cartoons.
I am so glad conservative values are going under.
So is your wifes boyfriend
Imagine the teeth job
Futurama fricking sucked. I have no idea why people liked it. An interesting concept ruined by terrible writing and awful jokes. Why anyone thought this would be good is beyond me.
Futurama was great fun to watch as a kid, but rewatching it as an adult really made me realize it was really kind of bland and boring most of the time.
same. it was entertaining when I was a teenager but I don’t get how adults watched it
I'm 29 now so Futurama was on TV when I was a kid. Is it really that bad? was tempted recently to download it all and go through it.
It's bad, but just feels really bland. There are some good jokes now and then, but they mostly make you go "heh".
Its okay but it made me realize how much better peak simpsons is.
curious how simpsons started to go downhill when futurama started though, suggesting a lot of energy between the writers was lost.
Peak simpsons is a pretty high bar to compare something to, to be fair.
Imo peak simpsons > peak american dad > futurama > family guy
Unironically a lot of futurama writers went on to write for American Dad
No it isn't. It was always cornball jokes and plastic drama.
A lot of episodes are somewhat similar and kinda meh. But the good episodes are absolutely fricking kino. No other cartoon comes even close to Godfellas, Luck of the Fryrish, Jurassic Bark, Roswell that ends well, War is the H-word or The Devil's Hands Are Idle Playthings
its not even second monitor worthy. maybe play it on a tv that is just barely in your peripheral.
The original run was pretty great, imo close to classic Simpsons. With the reboot is started to get progressively worse. A few kind of good episodes don't make up for the mediocre rest.
So absolutely watch the original run, which ends with "The Devil's hands are idle playthings".
Like I said I grew up with it so rarely saw an episode beyond that anyway. I never thought much was wrong with the 'original run'. Was surprised to see people dimiss the whole thing as bad
When I see people say the original run Futurama was "boring" I see people outing themselves as Rick & Morty fans who don't like the humor because it isn't as edgy and nihilist enough for them
>Is it really that bad?
Oh my, no.
Sadly stuck on Netflix with no physical release.
Meds.
it's like king of the hill, it's funny 30% of the time.
simpsons, funny 5-10% of the time.
king of the hill, 10%.
friends 5%
futurama, 5%
disenchament 2%
it felt extremely flat and bland, a bit like op's mother when she was young.
what went wrong in your life that you grew up to be such a bitter c**t?
And what exactly would you have done with the shows premise mr Cinemaphile arm chair genius?
porn
play more into the sci fi elements instead of making simpsons jokes and constant 20th century pop references
the fricking second episode of the show is them going to a 50s style theme park that happens to be on the moon, the side plot is bender fricking the daugher of a stereotypical old american farmer that happens to be a robot, most episodes would work 1:1 on the simpsons exept for the scifi aesthetic.
the good ones are always the one that actually use the premise to do something different instead like pic related( and even than they had to make it look too much like ancient egypt)
You're autistic and moronic
Watching it now (im the poster from earlier) and the 2nd episode is now quite tired yes, as its full of early 2000s references that are sort of understandable but not that amusing. I guess it explains why I didn't ever hear anyone talk about this show after 2010ish.
Are you fricking moronic?
There are a handful of good episodes but I agree. I never got into it
The early seasons of Futurama are amazing while the later seasons are complete trash. The first few seasons have funny setups and nuanced jokes. The writing is better and some of the one liners that aren't even meant to be jokes are hilarious. In the later seasons they start doing modern politics and shoehorn in jokes that don't make any sense. They also go on a rampage purposefully changing all the characters established personalities for the worse. Like devoting episodes to Amy settling down and being really smart instead of just being a rich sorority girl the professor keeps around because she has the same blood type. A good cutoff point to stop watching is when the professor and Herme's kids are introduced but it's more of a gradual decline because there are some funny jokes at the midpoint.
You could just stop when it was originally cancelled. You're not missing much after that point. Maybe one or two standout episodes from the later years.
I kinda liked the movies. Bander's Big Score, at least, was a fun watch.
only good thing the movies did was completely invalidate the sadness of seymour waiting for fry lmao
This is the correct stopping point, everything Futurama post cancellation is garbage, including the movies
bender's big score is good and i thought bender's game was a comfy D&D parody
>The early seasons of Futurama are amazing while the later seasons are complete trash.
>S4 onwards is very very strange
This is why I always say that the show GOT BETTER as the seasons passed! They were too serious in the beginning, which made a boring watch, but the more they go off-the-rails in the later seasons, the better it got. Same with the melodrama; in the later seasons everyone is always crying and big emotions are in play!
>the original run Futurama was "boring" I see people outing themselves as Rick & Morty fans who don't like the humor because it isn't as edgy and nihilist enough for them
I think there's probably truth to this. Rick & Morty really take the nihilism and violence to another level, while Futurama stays more in the surreal zone. (I like them both, obviously.)
pathetic bait goes unanswered for over a whole hour, hopefully this anon has killed himself since
You first, homo.
I liked the first few seasons. S4 onwards is very very strange, like they forgot the premise of the series is distant future shenanigans. When they did an iPhone episode I knew the writers had literally forgotten the initial concept.
the worldbuilding of the show is S-tier, it's like cartoon Seinfeld but without a lot of the humour, Groening should have made it for adults like he wanted.
Sub-midwit take.
I watched it recently and it still holds up. Way better than any cartoon today, but there's lots of stuff that is outdated. Futurama is a product of its time, and most of the talking celebrity heads are now literal whos
I really liked it when I was a kid
Cause it wasn't a very funny satire so it wound up leaning heavily on its rather blandly written story. The writers clearly didn't know a whole lot about fantasy beyond Game of Thrones, D&D, and Lord of the Rings and their jokes showed that their knowledge of even these limited topics was extremely shallow. Contrast it to the more nuanced jokes in Futurama skewering a variety of sci-fi properties and premises. You could tell the writers on Futurama had a pretty intimate knowledge of the stuff they were lampooning, and it came across as good-natured ribbing. I never felt like the people writing Disenchantment even liked fantasy as a genre, or knew anything about it from first hand experience besides watching LotR movies and GoT.
The writers have extremely surface level "i watched four youtube videos giving me a basic gestalt of DnD" understanding of the settings they were satirizing and it's plainly obvious. And without an intricate understanding their satire is bland and flavorless and wouldn't have been edgy 20 years ago let alone now.
don't you mean 20 sided dice years ago ha ha
lol remember when futurama portrayed minas tirith as a giant toilet? how funny was that lol
Great post man.
If I could add onto that.
I think an inherent problem with disenchanted is that Futurama was still grounded in society. All the advanced in technology still leaves people with basic problems.
With medieval fantasy, the world is always fake and so far removed from modern problems that commentary shouldn't take place. The Matt Groaning format can't work without satirizing something. At best the show could exist to criticize escapism and bad writing, but the writers aren't smart enough for that. Also the show looked like it aimed for the sedated weed smoking Rick and Morty fanbase
I actually liked it when I tried to watch it a second time. It's kinda comfy. Not sure why everyone hated it. It has a similar type of humor as Simpsons and Futurama
Yeah, it’s kind of easy going normie shit, like bingeing Friends or Band of Brothers
>binging BoB
its 5 hours long
6 minutes shy of 10 hours
This BUT they made a mess of the over-arching mystery of dreamland storyline and also including techno-steam punk world ruined the whole sword and sorcery vibe. It would have been so much better if they just stuck to Sword and Sorcery + Futurama premise.
Steamland could have worked. The whole “magic only works for dreamland because of the elf ruins” could have made a cool combination. But they literally just dumped the idea while at the same time pretending the whole plot was “building up to it”.
I only watch this show for sexy evil mommy
No redeeming qualities. Just an all round horrible person.
>setting up to tell a big story
>but it's also a quirky sitcom
>and the characters emotions toward each other are very important
>however we don't know what the story will be or what the point even is
>the jokes aren't funny
>and there's little reason to get invested in any of the characters
This. Like I give a frick about some rich princess who drinks and acts like a guy and doesn't give a frick about anyone but herself. She's a terrible character.
no full frontal nudity of Bean
her buck teeth would ruin it
The only thing ruined would be my underwear.
Bean is like they took Bender, but unironically and with no one and nothing to act as a foible. She's an awful piece of shit and it isn't funny, interesting, or entertaining to watch her be an awful person. There are several other key writing ingredients you need for that to work and very skilled writers. They have none of those.
Serialized plot. I don't watch cartoons for that.
It never made it into my rewatch rotation with Simpins, Futurama, KotH, and Bob's Burgers because I hate having to follow along episode by episode.
The writing generally sucks, but beyond that there's something so stilted and awkward about the show that the odd jokes that actually would get a laugh just don't land at all. I don't know what it is exactly, maybe there's a bigger disconnect between the animators and storyboard artists and writers than there was on a show like futurama but there's something really fricked with it. Bad comedic timing, flat delivery, nothing about the animation sells the jokes, probably a mixture of that and more but I just really didn't like it.
Main cast has zero chemistry and at least early on - most of S1 - none of them are likeable. For a long time Odval felt like the most sympathetic character in the whole thing. Jokes are mostly unfunny and fall flat, story is all over the place and many threads never get resolve.
fail? wtf u talkin about?
>why did it fail when The Simpsons have been absolute garbage for +20 years?
Fantasy parody in general just feels played out now. If you can't make something as clever as Terry Pratchet, or even Shrek, don't try. It's been done.
Not to mention Matt Groening's whole style feels kind of lame and boomery at this point.
>dude, what if a teenager, was... Misbehaved!
Great. Get int the old people's home.
>Fantasy parody in general just feels played out now.
this
My eyes rolled at the premise of the show. I tried sticking it out, it's just boring.
Groening is a pedophile and everyone I know who watches his trash is a little homosexual.
wasn't funny, wasn't interesting, flat characters, no real continuity, insistence of building some sort of background lore while ignoring the episode to episode storylines.
The elves just weren't funny.
It was boring
Only character i give a frick about is king Zog and he was a fricking rambling nutcase for half the season
God that gag was painfully drawn out. I loved Zog as a character but him being a honking cripple for 2 god damn seasons just dragged the show to a halt. It made no sense, was boring, the honking was never funny, and it crippled one of the only funny characters on the show. And have too much screen time to Chazzzz.
I'm gonna do it
I'm gonna fap to tiabeanie r34
It's not funny.
Wasn’t funny, you can tell the writers are all women and gays
>w*man protag
Ignored. Not watching. Never will. I don't even remember the name of this show.
The past is boring.
I gave the first 5 episodes a go because Groening is usually pretty good, but this show is pretty trashy
Even when trying to be sexy that artstyle is grotesque
First, the artwork was ugly as sin, and looked cheap. It lacked that Asian sweatshop look of Simpsons and Futurama prime. Some shots looked like they were made by one guy on an iPad.
Second - whereas Futurams was aimed at generally older viewers than Simpsons, this made the odd decision to go the opposite way. I kept feeling like I was watching a kids show, so I stooped pretty early in season one and I got the impression I was far from the only one
Who is the target audience for the show?
It’s just extremely dry and bland. The lack of music hurts it, too. It’s just so fricking flat and lifeless.
once they realized nobody cared about the show they should have put more nudity in it
episodes are too long.
Not enough Sneed.
Haha
boring
The timing is awful, you don't realise how good timing is in cartoons until you see one like this. They'll hold on jokes too long or a character will be too slow to respond, kills whatever they're going for.
Also season 4 was really boring, I just stopped watching 3 episodes in.
who knew that timing was important in comedy
It did'
because who the frick cares
This show has a general creepy masonic vibe aside from that it's slowly getting better with each year. They even got rid of the talking pig character
It wasn't funny
because I was expecting it to be an adventure series and it turned out to be a sitcom
I liked this show well enough it kind of reminded me of anime and it looks really good in Dolby Vision really pops on my OLED
Interesting characters and animation but it just wasn’t funny.
Unlike Futurama, it lacked 'charm'. It had good characters but they never went anywhere.
I liked the show when it first came out, but there were no new, creative adventures. Futurama is memorable.
The fricking episode when Leela is in a coma and delirious because of the giant bee sting is one of the best fricking written episodes in a cartoon.
they picked the worst possible voice actor for that small demon thing, i only watched season 1, i thought that they would have more fun with the setting but it's so fricking cliche every time.
It’s not good. Their first season was bad, the writing was bad, the voice acting wasn’t good. I remember the sound effects being off or missing in scenes.
Futurama had a strong first season but this show just completely fricked it up. Also comes off like Matt’s rejected ideas for a show he should have done 20 years ago instead.
Not just sound effects, but thr music as well. The music in this show is either bad, or non-existent. Its surprising how such a small thing like music can change the atmosphere of a show.
All these >wordswordswords replies.
Simple answer: It's just not funny.
Did it get canceled?
I like it. Elfo is best character.
Matt Groening is a talent-less hack artist.
Imagine how insulted you'd be here as Seth.
>have only the vaguest idea what this shit is
>google it
>everyone is praising how the main character is a dyke
lol
lmao
