his early stuff is indeed good, but he also has very middling outings, and Amour might be his worst one (i even liked Happy End more), no idea why he attempted to be sentimental, it didn't work out
Noe on the other hand portrayed the same subject matter magnificently.
They're both hit an miss. But all "Auteur" directors are. They have the balls to take chances. Sometimes that results in utter failure. For instance, I hate Noe's Love. I literally can't watch it I detest it so much.
Enter the Void is the only film of his that's blown me away. Irreversible wasn't particularly interesting. Climax was intense and visually appealing, but nothing special. Vortex was good but way too depressing to watch again. Love was boring. Lux Aeterna was hot garbage. Haven't seen I Stand Alone.
Depending on the day, Enter the Void might make my top 10.
>that whole love hotel stretch is snoozefest
I really hate it when people say what about to say, but: you really need to watch it on mushrooms or acid. It opens it up.
>I viewed it as Noe sorta making purposeful self parody
I thought the same thing, but I didn't find it particularly funny.
That might be the difference between us, then. You already liked it, but for someone like me who found it pointless drawn out autofellatio I don't think enjoying it on a given substance would make me view it in any higher regard.

You never know.
I'm not usually one to recommend drugs, but I think everyone should do acid or mushrooms at least once, except for people who might be predisposed to schizophrenia or any mental illness that causes mania.

You're at least genuine, so if it does indeed end up happening, I'll think of you.
I thought Lux Aeterna was good, but also it is not a feature film really. I viewed it as Noe sorta making purposeful self parody, thought it was funny.
>I Stand Alone
10/10 >Irreversible
Normal version is 8/10
Straight Cut is 9/10. I know it ruins the reversed gimmick and sort of ruins the story, but it's more re-watchable. Normal version is better for a first time watch, straight cut is better on re-watches. >Enter the Void
8/10. The first time I watched it I hated it, but I enjoyed it more when I re-watched it. >Love 7/10 unironically >Climax
8/10 >Vortex
8/10, depressing kino >Lux Aeterna
4/10, his worst yet.
>>I Stand Alone >10/10
Did we watch the same movie? It's just an angry old guy thinking to himself and walking around before ending with a YOU HAVE 30 SECONDS TO LEAVE before it was all... le dream
>Most of the dialogue was improvised by the cast. Gaspar Noé stated that, as he didn't understand English very much, he needed someone to tell him if what the cast was saying sounded good or not.
Posting a le quirky wojak doesn't prove anything >Heh, look mom, I posted a wojak again! See, I win the argument and I'm le based now! Look how unique I am, I posted my heckin' based wojak meme!
It's reddit as frick.
You still aren't denying wojak is moronic. Shitting up a thread with wojaks is annoying homosexualry. Couldn't you just call the anon a homosexual and move on? Nope, you have to spam the thread with wojaks instead.

Wojak posters are the biggest homosexuals of them all
Yeah, so that would mean Noe's films can be good without frying your brain with substances, which is true.

I really like the way he films his stuff and his taste in music, but the actual movies as a whole are almost poisonous to the soul.
They're very hopeless and nihilistic. I used to eat that shit up as a teen, but nowadays I'm not sure what you get from media like this. Tried rewatching I Stand Alone a while back and I couldn't finish it.

Didn't say they were bad. I just don't understand the appeal.

his latest one, Vortex, might have been his best yet, i was floored
it also mogs that mediocrity of Haneke (Amour) so hard
Early Haneke is based. Noe's I Stand Alone and Haneke's doomer trilogy are some of the most depressing movies ever made. I respect that.

Gaspar Noe's movies suck
Enter the Void is the only film of his that's blown me away. Irreversible wasn't particularly interesting. Climax was intense and visually appealing, but nothing special. Vortex was good but way too depressing to watch again. Love was boring. Lux Aeterna was hot garbage. Haven't seen I Stand Alone.

ISA is his worst easily, Irreversible is his most coherent
Climax is his most fun though, Enter the Void had potential but that whole love hotel stretch is snoozefest af - definition of a mixed bag
I Stand Alone is great. Lux Aerterna is his only bad one.
>that whole love hotel stretch is snoozefest

I know, I know. But it's true.
I saw it without psychedelics and loved it, but seeing it again on acid was mind-blowing.
That might be the difference between us, then. You already liked it, but for someone like me who found it pointless drawn out autofellatio I don't think enjoying it on a given substance would make me view it in any higher regard.

I watched it on acid and I thought that scene was drawn out and pointless, the whole thing is generic neohippy self-masturbatory trash.
Neohippy? Are you referring to the dialogue about The Tibetan Book of the Dead? If so, that stuff predates hippies by about 700 years.
I thought Lux Aeterna was good, but also it is not a feature film really. I viewed it as Noe sorta making purposeful self parody, thought it was funny.
Irreversible is the one I liked
>kino
Oh this means trash? Because that "movie" is disgusting trash
The movies are too le problematic and yikes for you? Go cry on plebbit you massive homosexual

>It's just an angry old guy thinking to himself and walking around
Yeah that's why it was kino
I'm already living that though
Love is a good one
I fapped to that one a lot
Are any of his short films kino?
i aint a gay or nuthin but i love the opening dance in climax
The dance introducing each character turning into them laying there with sangria stains to the mid credits was unfiltered kino
>Most of the dialogue was improvised by the cast. Gaspar Noé stated that, as he didn't understand English very much, he needed someone to tell him if what the cast was saying sounded good or not.

Is that (You)? Lmao
More like the type to samegay

Fedora-tippers don't strike me as the kind of people who do psychedelics.

Well you posted wojaks (a reddit meme), so what did you expect?
Do 5 grams of mushrooms and report back.

It's true, your homosexual cartoons will not change that
If I've shat up the thread with so-called homosexual cartoons already then why continue to respond? Reddit is that way.
Because we were having a moronic discussion about said homosexual cartoons
Anyone care to actually discuss the topic of of the thread?
So far I've concluded that Noe is only good when you fry your brain with substances
Only one guy said that though
And a bunch of npcs parroting his homosexualry
Therefore, that doesn't prove his point. A homosexual and a few NPCs saying something doesn't make it true.
Well you got that right
Yeah, so that would mean Noe's films can be good without frying your brain with substances, which is true.
