Lazenby would be the greatest if they gave him a chance to grow into the role, but instead they wanted Connery who stopped giving a shit.
Lazenby quit after one movie, he wasn't fired. He said his agent advised him not to get tied down so he would have a career post-bond. What a fricking idiot, I hope Lazenby fired his moronic ass
No, he would not. There's no getting around the fact he's a car salesman who lucked out 1000x and got the role of a lifetime but ultimately it was for the best he quit. OHMSS is the best movie ruined by his presence. If it had Connery or Moore, it would be a stone-cold 10/10 film and the greatest in the Bond canon. It also had the best Blofeld put to screen.
This, even Craig. They all are wildly different from each other but the little things put them under the same umbrella. I wonder how Aaron Taylor-Johnson will do.
>This, even Craig
have a nice day marxist shit.
Craig is the worst Bond, don't twist my words but AT LEAST he had something going on in Casino Royale and was fun to watch. The rest are, of course, better but still.
They are campy and unserious and Moore is a walking mannequin that delivers sly remarks without any feeling. They are also some of the cruellest Bond films, almost sinister at times.
Lazenby was a good Bond for the film. He's boyish, sometimes insecure, and even out of his depth. Bond hiding from Blodfeldt's men only to be saved by his guardian angel Tracy would never have worked for Connery as his Bond was bigger than life.

Maybe but Bond falling in love would have hit harder with his version precisely because of what you said. Seeing this superhuman bachelor bleed and fall in love and experience fullfilment only for it to be cruelly taken away by Irma Bunt and Blofeld. This scene with Connery would have been 10000000x more emotional. Connery was a great dramatic actor and would have splendid chemistry with Rigg
Connery is definitely the better actor, but the understated acting in the scene works brilliantly. Why is this considered one of the greatest scenes in the franchise? Because everything about it works, including Lazenby's minimal approach. Connery in the role would have been really interesting though.
I'll agree that Lazenby definitely stepped up for it, his pained expressions in subtle fashion are great for a car salesman by trade. I still would have taken Connery, no question. Also, a hard-edged revenge story DAF would have been possible with Connery in OHMSS.
Lazenby was a shitty Bond and could not act.
I've never heard anyone actually say they disliked the Moore films. It's like 60s Batman. There's this popular notion that Batman fans hate 60s Batman because it was campy and colorful, but I've never met someone who actually felt that way. I've never met a single person who dislikes either of those things.
Personally I like all the Bonds. They all have their own thing going on. I don't like every Bond movie, but each of them have at least one good one.
who cares what zoomers think
Half of his movies are not that great and most of them use Hollywood trends of their respective time. Connery's Bond was creating trends, Moore's Bond was a slave to them
This. The entire Mission: Impossible franchise was built off of ideas in the Connery movies (face mask in FRWL is the biggest). At best, the new one will just take inspiration from the franchise Bond birthed and go back to fun and adventure. Funny how that works.
Zoomers cannot imagine or understand that anything existed before current thing that must be obsessed over. For anyone else I'd imagine Moore not quitting the role when he was clearly far, far too old for it is the real issue.
He should have definitely quit by Moonraker. It was his peak and he never got that good again. Dalton should have had the 80's to himself, with the 80's fetishism he'd be the most popular Bond now.
If they didn't go with campy scripts, sure but the 80's Bonds were mostly hangovers from the 70's. Dalton lucked out by having the two best scripts. If he'd been able to stay on for Goldeneye and then left, I think he'd be most popular Bond hands down.
Dalton ranked 2nd in a massive poll conducted in 2022, barely behind Connery. If he had a third, he'd be the undisputed best Bond. All patricians agree he was the bee's knees.
He's easily my favorite. Living Daylights is class.
Indeed, his two movies are CINEMA. Absolute cinema. With time, I can see him surpassing Connery now with the internet and people being able to watch and analyze his movies endlessly. Also, the big 80's idolization that is present now.
Based
Name literally any other movie in history where the American is the villain and the Brit is the hero.
romantic, sentimental bond isnt real bond. bond has a dangerous which which does not allow for much sentimentality.
dalton bond is a generic hollywood spy, not bond.
the last two James Bond releases had no cache. The Craig era was off to a strong start but fumbled on the 2nd film, regained ground on the 3rd, but wasn't able to continue the trend. For even most self-described movie people, James Bond is something they know a fair amount about but only secondhand regurgitated opinions. Even interested parties are not going to watch the entire Bond canon. I don't really find the Moore entries much more campy than what came before or after during the Brosnan era, for example. I do think the last two Moore movies weren't so good but his first five outings as Bond are excellent, just as peak as any of the other good ones.
Like the people who are old enough (late 20s/late 30s) who think of Brosnan as Bond still are just like that because of the PS2 games. Even GoldenEye is pretty bad, it's bland and boring for a Bond. The Connery era is great but I think people fixate on From Russia with Love too much, Goldfinger is the "sheer kino" one. Dr No is OK and You Only Live Twice is great but a little silly, a little tropey. Thunderball isn't great. Diamonds Are Forever isn't either.
oh I forgot to mention Lazenby--OHMSS is as good as any Bond is. Great one. Weirdly I watched For Your Eyes Only right after OHMSS out of sheer coincidence and the weird thing is, even though there are five movies in-between those two, For Your Eyes Only picks up the second that OHMSS ends.
>I think people fixate on From Russia with Love too much, Goldfinger is the "sheer kino" one.
i think it's exactly vice versa
>Thunderball isn't great.
thunderball is awesome
Mooregays seethe about this shit every day. Nobody hates the Moore films, why are you so obsessed with them?
These Craiggays in Bondthreads shit on Moore, though.
i loved them as a kid but i've outgrown them by now
Moore is great guy and all but I just don't care about camp. Not how I would do it at all.
confirmation bias is a hell of a drug
Kino. Love his chemistry with the bond girls too.
he has zero chemistry with the bond girls, he might as well be gay
but enough about Daniel Craig
I like Moore but i'd rather watch Craig. Moore's far too nice for a character like Bond. He's a UNICEF ambassador, god bless his soul in peace. Not someone who has a licence to KILL. He said he was appaled at having to throw a kid out of a boat. Too good, too pure. Craig looks like a fricking Russian hitman which is cool to watch.
a russian hitman who is bisexual, feminist, and drinks heineken. Meanwhile Moore is straight, hits women and smokes cigars. It doesn't take a Bond expert to decide which is better
He's a bong. If they cast a Russian he would've been more handsome. That being said, camp shit is unfitting of Bond and disrespectful to the novels.
>muh novels
even then, Moore is closer to literary Bond than Craig, and Craig's movies are serious but still ridiculously stupid and campy
>Moore is closer to literary Bond than Craig
Nah
>Bond playing texas holdem, drinking piss lagers and treating women like princesses
Austin Powers is closer to Fleming's Bond than Craig is
>Austin Powers is closer to Fleming's Bond than Craig is
This is why no one takes Mooregays seriously, you hate Bond. Lazenby was also a better Bond than him.
this is why no one takes Craiggays seriously, you pretend to have read the books but never did
No, I've read them. You're the one who hates the books.
>This is why no one takes Mooregays seriously, you hate Bond. Lazenby was also a better Bond than him.
moore was properly unsentimental for most of his run. he could effortlessly pose as a gentleman
Since when is gentleman synonymous with unsentimental, nostalgiagay?
that was a non-sequitur my bad. i was listing up two characteristics that are essential to bond. dalton bond fails the first one due to the scriptwriting (not necessarily dalton). craig fails the second one due to not coming across as elegant and/or sophisticated.
>Austin Powers is closer to Fleming's Bond than Craig is
Bond "fans" are romantically linked to slop
No one gives a frick about the books, and even if they did "accuracy" is not the same thing as "quality"
test
Big Moore fan here, actually think he is more consistently good than Connery is, and his movies are more entertaining without just being action slop. He has the best villains, best gadgets, best girls and best title songs. Plus he did more Bond films than any other actor (even if you count Never Say Never Again it's still just a remake of Thunderball).
I like them all and feel like they're very enjoyable, uplifting watches but they feel a bit fluffy in comparison to the rest. They all gel to each other and depends if you like that, I guess. Definitely more Saint episodes than James Bond movies.
Pretty sure the franchise was heading in that direction with or without Moore, people like to forget that Connery's last few movies are also full of camp infact DAF feels EXACTLY like a Moore era film
Even YOLT with the slide leading into a chair. I'd wager most of the stuff in Connery's last two is even sillier than Moore.
because everything is serious as a heart attack now.
I love Moore's movies, but most of them lack the 'cool spy' elements that Connery, Dalton and Brosnan had. They're outright adventure movies. His movies come with a subconscious feeling that all this 'fun' came at the expense of something a bit cooler during one of the greatest periods for action movies.
Agreed. I really don't care for this campy approach with Bond, but hey, it will probably be superior to ATJ's Bond.
