“Disney Princess” is a brand title, not an actual royalty thing. Elsa is a Disney Princess and she’s either a Queen or not a royal anything. Mulans a Disney princess and she just gets married to a general in her movie.

      Real reason is Hunchback underperformed.

          >But Mulan is royalty.
She isn't? She's not even distantly sort of thing. Her only relationship is to a retired military official.

          Also Elsa or even Anna.

          >Hunchback underperformed
          So did Pocahontas and PatF

          >Pocahontas
Her movie did pretty good actually, better than Mulan even. Sure she wasn't Lion King, but she was an objective blockbuster hit.

          >and PatF
We all know why that one's there even though her merch tanks. "Gypsie" and "Black" are on different levels.

Mulan gets the title for her extraordinary valor, that's Disney's own stance
Esmeralda is cool but she's neither as active nor inspiring

She gets the title because she sells shit to asians. Mulan isn't actually nobility. Her boy's not a noble.

Esmeralda is just as inspiring with her song name-dropping God in the title and being there with Quasimodo in the climax

Esmeralda and Tinker Bell were considered at one point before TB got her own franchise and Esmeralda faded until obscurity

Esmeralda is in a league of her own. I'd argue that's better than being part of the Disney Princesses brand. The Hunchback of Notre Dame is bold and daring enough to continue being discovered by people for years to come. It doesn't need to be pushed in children's toys to do that.

Not a daughter of royalty, seductress, movie bombed, doesn't hook up with main character. She's in the same league as Megara or the feather duster French maid from Beauty and the Beast.

Anna and Elsa aren’t listed as Disney Princesses. Very odd.

Also Esmeralda is listed as a former Disney princess. Jane should definitely be one though. She married the prince of the gorilla tribe.

Also Megara should be one too. Hercules is the son of Zeus, who is king of the gods and mount Olympus.

Tinkerbell was a Disney princess? Never knew that. Though I guess it makes sense why she is t anymore. Shes kinda like a secondary mascot to the company besides mickey, and she has a whole franchise full of movies. The franchise isn't all that active but most people still look back fondy on those Tinkerbell movies/novels (plus the Disney fairy brand was everywhere for a while.)

Actually I think Tokyo Disney Sea is making a whole ride based on the Disney fairies as part of that parks new expansion. So I would assume the brand was popular in Japan as well.

The original DP lineup was focused on covering as many customer groups as possible. This is why the cast is as diverse as possible despite traditional white princesses always sold much better. After some testing and market research they removed the girls - sadly - no one cared about from the lineup. You need to understand the DP line was made to offer a mostly traditional, "safe" cast of characters that parents can buy for their kids without thinking twice about uncomfortable questions. The Hunback of Notre Dame is simply incompatible with this so Esmeralda had to go as soon as they refreshed the lineup. Mulan is simply there because of politics, they can't afford to miss out on asian rep.

Anna and Elsa aren't Disney Princesses because Frozen is a juggernaut on its own. The Disney Princess branding targets a certain group of "Princess fans" who wants to see a bunch of pretty girls in traditional outfits. The individual girls don't bring in that much money but as a dedicated group it is much easier to sell and market them by mixing and matching them on merchandise. A Tiana mug might not sell, but an Ariel+Rapunzel+Tiana one definitely will. Also it makes collectors purchase even more "related" merch.

Frozen is so popular it can sustain on its own lineup so putting Elsa and Anna among the old and busted girls would lead to less sales. Frozen fans buy every merch automatically, they don't need to sweeten the deal with other characters. This way however the target audience picks up Frozen and DP merch too.

Nala should be a Disney princess, but then they would have to acknowledge her incestuous relationship with Simba. They are half-siblings.

Also is the beast even a prince? I thought he was just nobility. It seems like they’re just picking and choosing whatever they feel like and I’m not happy about it.

    "heaven help the outcasts"

being a working class character that actually embraces the teachings of jesus so genuinely that she seems marxist is probably "off brand" for a disgusting corporation like disney and it would trigger the dumbfrick evangelicals

because IRL gypsies don't buy merch and are therefore not a profitable target audience
