Why is the Australian Movie Industry so shitty?

All of their so-called talent desperately want to work in Hollywood or the UK. It's just pathetic.

It’s pretty reliant on government grants and a lot of the stuff produced isn’t very good, more about being a tourism ad so anyone worth their salt in the industry will head to the US to better utilise their ability and earn significantly more money.

Funding bodies hate genre and "boy's stories". So unless they go big internationally they eventually burn out.

The only notable exception was for one moment the institutional types banded together to give DTF a big comedy award just to stick it to Kath & Kim, because Kath & Kim was getting too big for their liking.

The industry is full of saboteurs and suck-ups (who are the same people).
They love the tingle of that occasional international spotlighting, but then they get freaked out that they may lose their Big Fish/Small Pond buff.

We got rid of the enticing producer tax offset. During the period where Australia actually made good and internationally noteworthy movies investment came from all over the place because you basically couldn't lose, even if the movie flopped your losses were mitigated and as such investment, and the industry flourished. Like everything boomers benefited from they've pulled out the rug and removed it for the following generations and now virtually all investment in film in the country comes from government grants. The people in charge of allotting this funding have no idea, or do not care, what people want and give financing to the same old mediocre, depressing or indigenous shit no one wants or will ever see.

most Australian films and TV shows rely on government grants for money, and film Australia has very specific requirements for what they will fund, mostly abo and immigrant shit no one wants to watch, and because those films aren't very successful it then gives off the impression to independent investors that financing an Australian film is very risky so that ends up killing sources of funding other than the government, who then only find shit no one wants to watch, which flops, which further kills independent financing because it makes Australian films look like a risky investment, and the cycle repeats untill the Australian film industry is dead

It would be required to have a committee composed of people with a personal stake in Aboriginal communities used in an advisory capacity on issues that affect those communities and members of parliament need to say they had a look at that advice whether they did or not. That advice can then be ignored, but it will probably go on to make rounds in the media and people will argue about whether it should have been ignored.

Yes they have. The official form is left to legislation and is not to be hard baked into the constitution. The only constitutionally guaranteed power is to "represent" to parliament. Anything else could and would be legislatively altered over time.

Real answer, it isn't about more gibs.
Essentially it's an advisory body made up of abos that's part of government.
Any sort of law, regulation, legal thing, etc the abos can comment on.
That's it. It's a multi million dollar virtue signal. And it's up to the Supreme Court to decide if the abo advice holds value which means that the Supreme Court is basically going to be completely fricking swamped by moronic shit advice from these guys that they have to sort through by law.

You are literally voting on whether or not the following should be added to the constitution. No more, no less.

Chapter IX - Recognition of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples

129 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Voice
In recognition of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as the First Peoples of Australia:
          (i) there shall be a body, to be called the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Voice;
          (ii) The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Voice may make representations to the Parliament and the Executive Government of the Commonwealth on matters relating to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples;
(iii) the Parliament shall, subject to this Constitution, have power to make laws with respect to matters relating to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Voice, including its composition, functions, powers and procedures.

So basically how I read it is if this is added to the constitution, not in any particular order because I'm talking out of my arsehole
          >parliament will establish advisory committees, do surveys, gather information, etc
          >reports will be written advising on composition, functions, powers, procedures, setting boundaries, i.e. what's the scope of "matters relating to the voice"
          >bill will be drafted, debated (or knows, who knows), then passed
          >the body will be built, will be interesting to see how much it costs to maintain
          >might be integrated within NIAA? (National Indigenous Australians Agency)

Hopefully the wording of whatever subsequent bills isn't too open-ended and ripe for scope-creep.

Before the government does anything they'll usually bring in some consultants to give their two cents on it. Often they're just yes-men hired to justify whatever moronic law the government is passing but sometimes there is some level of honesty in the process and they are actually hired to give their advice (which is just ignored if it is contrary to what the government wants to do).
The plan is to set up a group of aboriginals as permanent consultants on things that affect aboriginals so that the government can say that they've discussed things with them before going ahead with whatever they were planning to do anyway.

Because they're doing this in an official and permanent capacity it needs a referendum to pass.

We have the occasional good film, but it's rare because most australians are actually moronic. Take Alex proyas. Makes the Crow and one of the best sci fi movies ever in dark city, but it's with teh aid of the americans. When he goes to do his thing on his own, you get literally every piece of shit bomb of the last twenty years. Knowing and god's of egypt.

Why, because very few australians are talented.

God, frick no. After that recent batch of shithole EV ads he can frick right off.

His job is to act like the stupid bushie/country-town ocker making fun of the dumb city EV gays, while they calmly beat him the frick out by casually plugging their car into power outlets in the middle of the desert or outside some remote 1920s cattle station. The outlet is literally just sticking out of the ground on a wooden post. They didn't even try to make it look feasible (solar panel or a tesla battery station). But not to fear, because ya see our mate Russ is so busy capering around like a "boomer imbecile diesel user" that the intended idiot market of smug fart-sniffing cityshits isn't supposed to notice in incongruency of a power outlet in the middle of nowhere.

Any comedy turd who plays a backstabbing distraction role like that needs to be shot.
Also I can't wait for some idiots to actually attempt to drive their explodes-if-it-gets-too-hot wank mobiles out of their local cbd and "go bush".

Generally, they wish to be called wogs unless they're over 50.

Because the difference between a wog and a Black person is that wogs have a sense of humour while Black folk are lazy and have victim complexes.

It could be made today, the production budget itself only cost $50,000 and even after distribution it cost less than a million total. It almost certainly wouldn't find its way to cinemas but I guess the question is does a low budget movie need to anymore? And why hasn't anyone made something with as much cultural relevance to Australia despite not needing a lot of money to do so along with being able to reach a wider audience more easily through the internet?

Australia is a cultural wasteland. A population of dying decaying boomers and managerial homosexuals content with a country that shovels in migrants to prop up the housing market ponzi scheme. There's no vision in this country, it's just an economic production zone and our only culture is essentially laundered via binge drinking and derelict public housing criminals.
