      ayo, where my Wish bucks?

The problem there was hoarding wishes he had no intention of granting so people remain subservient to him.

I didn't watch this (lol who did?) but wouldn't the system break down if he did otherwise?

          Anonymous

Not really. The mechanics of it is that when you give up your greatest wish, you surrender the part of your soul that makes you aspire to greater things. People don't know this when they give up their wishes, but the king does, and he hoards wishes he doesn't plan to grant so people will never want more than to be peasants because he wants everybody to worship him forever.

The lead girl isn't arguing that the king should grant everybody's wishes, just that he should return the ones he doesn't want to grant so people can be whole again, but he doesn't want to because then people could decide to leave or question his authority.

And he's forcing them to come from all across the world to live on his island rent-free?

So you're okay with unknowingly giving up free will in exchange for food and lodging?

                Anonymous

Isn't that what we all do by working and living in society? You accept the rules of society and give up a part of your personal free will in the process. Maybe she should have just lived inawoods if she didn't want to be part of the society and didn't agree with it's rules?

Now you're understanding the mindset of the writers and the director of this crap. Its commie shit. They want everything for free, provided to them by their leaders and want no responsibility or cost at all

This all sounds like a writer who submitted a lot of rejected ideas to Disney wrote a story shitting on Disney. Like you submit your ideas/scripts to Magnifico/Disney. Both run a magic kingdom. Magnifico rarely grants the wishes. Disney rarely turns a script into a real movie. Neither let you take your idea/wish back and make it a reality somewhere else.

But people WILLINGLY gave Magnifico their wish, and everyone seemed to be just fine and happy after.

This movie might have deserved to bomb more than any other that came out this year. The Marvels might have been a shitty movie, but this one was both shitty and also had an absolutely terrible message for kids.

Exactly. Forget "woke" stuff or any of that, NO parent should want their kid to watch this for exactly this reason. That's probably why it has such weak legs.

That’s just your average black persons belief. How much have whites given to blacks yet they still want more? To a white person the moral of this story is stupid, but you have ti remember this was made by black people and this is what they genuinely believe.

Because he was a white male and the protagonist was not only black, but a woman. They don’t want to make the white make villain to evenly or oppressive because it might trigger real life trauma and PTSD that countless woman and POC suffer from due to oppression and abuse from white males. The plus that oppression is passed down to children through intergenerstional trauma so you have to be very careful and prevent that from triggering thst in young children who may not fully understand what they’re feeling and why they’re feeling it.

They’re going hard on the morally grey GOT tier trope thinking kids will like that instead of comically evil villains getting their shit pushed in by the good guys. Scar, Ursula, Jaffar etc

Its SUCH a tiny nitpick but I hate the trope where the Disney female slowly figures something out by getting all quiet and intense, and quietly saying it out loud while staring into nothing

Once or twice I wouldnt even notice but its in every film, sometimes more than once

Its lazy bullshit. They think the audience are idiots who need things spelled out for them like a parent sounding out words to a baby. Either that or the writers are that dumb and that's how people explain things to them

so are the wishes actual magic wishes or just desires that people have? i'm trying to imagine a world where everybody gets an actual magic wish and it just ends up being either mass genocide and incels with rape dungeons or wishes that barely work because otherwise it would be a disaster

      Actual wishes
Itd make more sense if they were dreams, in fact the whole story is crippled by the fact we're not talking about the residents having aspirations robbed from them but outlandish greedy wishes

Its like reverse Wonder Womyn 1984, which had a very standard "Be carefuk wgat you wish for" message

WW was about the danger of giving everyone what they wanted. Wish is about giving everyone what they want but they actually have to pay for it and how that's supposedly a bad thing
