>Everyone in the kingdom is happy and thriving
>"King is raises his voice sightly"
>Black woman: this is EVIL and needs to change
>Everyone in the kingdom is happy and thriving
>"King is raises his voice sightly"
>Black woman: this is EVIL and needs to change
>The king lets everyone live on his magic island and take part in his wish lottery for free
>But he doesn't grant every wish so he's a villain
> But he doesn't grant every wish so he's a villain
ayo, where my Wish bucks?
The problem there was hoarding wishes he had no intention of granting so people remain subservient to him.
I didn't watch this (lol who did?) but wouldn't the system break down if he did otherwise?
Not really. The mechanics of it is that when you give up your greatest wish, you surrender the part of your soul that makes you aspire to greater things. People don't know this when they give up their wishes, but the king does, and he hoards wishes he doesn't plan to grant so people will never want more than to be peasants because he wants everybody to worship him forever.
The lead girl isn't arguing that the king should grant everybody's wishes, just that he should return the ones he doesn't want to grant so people can be whole again, but he doesn't want to because then people could decide to leave or question his authority.
And he's forcing them to come from all across the world to live on his island rent-free?
So you're okay with unknowingly giving up free will in exchange for food and lodging?
Isn't that what we all do by working and living in society? You accept the rules of society and give up a part of your personal free will in the process. Maybe she should have just lived inawoods if she didn't want to be part of the society and didn't agree with it's rules?
Now you're understanding the mindset of the writers and the director of this crap. Its commie shit. They want everything for free, provided to them by their leaders and want no responsibility or cost at all
>you surrender the part of your soul that makes you aspire to greater things.
Except we see all the people happy and hopeful, no one it seemed sad or depressed expect Asha grandfather but only a little bit.
>you can only be hopeful and aspire to fo greater things if life only if you have a single oppurtunity to have all your problems instantly solved
This sounds like the mindset of a gambling addict.
This all sounds like a writer who submitted a lot of rejected ideas to Disney wrote a story shitting on Disney. Like you submit your ideas/scripts to Magnifico/Disney. Both run a magic kingdom. Magnifico rarely grants the wishes. Disney rarely turns a script into a real movie. Neither let you take your idea/wish back and make it a reality somewhere else.
But people WILLINGLY gave Magnifico their wish, and everyone seemed to be just fine and happy after.
This movie might have deserved to bomb more than any other that came out this year. The Marvels might have been a shitty movie, but this one was both shitty and also had an absolutely terrible message for kids.
>if your parents tell you "no"...
>...it means they're the villains because the people in charge should never tell you "no"!
Exactly. Forget "woke" stuff or any of that, NO parent should want their kid to watch this for exactly this reason. That's probably why it has such weak legs.
What was the moral lesson they were trying to impart for the kids?
If someone doesn't give you everything you want, they're evil.
That’s just your average black persons belief. How much have whites given to blacks yet they still want more? To a white person the moral of this story is stupid, but you have ti remember this was made by black people and this is what they genuinely believe.
It was a thinly veiled metaphor for reparations
>God is le bad
>Why doesn't the king just use all his power to create the greatest amount of happiness for the greatest amount of people
Oh wait, he does do that? What's the issue then?
What's the sales on dolls looking like? They in the bargin bin already?
>What's the sales on dolls looking like? They in the bargin bin already?
Do people actually buy movie branded clothes?
Little girls everywhere were wearing Elsa shirts when the first Frozen came out
>Do people actually buy movie branded clothes?
Kids were wearing Little Mermaid clothing all through the 90s.
Yes.
>movie released 2 weeks ago
>shit's already marked down 25-50%
that was fast
Buy up now while prices are low so you can sell them in 20 years when everyone realizes how underrated the film is
Yeah the king wasn't even evil. He gets possessed by a book and they dont even try to help him
>Queen: maybe we can save-
>Asha: No he's evil
>Queen: oh well eternal imprisonment it is
>live in an actual utopian society
>Eeeh it's not good enough the wishes we forgot about aren't safe 100% of the time
>Magnifico is supposed to be an evil dictator
>everyone in his land is happy and not oppressed at all
>in fact the land is almost utopian
Did they forget how villains work?
>Did they forget how villains work?
Yes, they didn't have a villian since mother gothel
Because he was a white male and the protagonist was not only black, but a woman. They don’t want to make the white make villain to evenly or oppressive because it might trigger real life trauma and PTSD that countless woman and POC suffer from due to oppression and abuse from white males. The plus that oppression is passed down to children through intergenerstional trauma so you have to be very careful and prevent that from triggering thst in young children who may not fully understand what they’re feeling and why they’re feeling it.
They’re going hard on the morally grey GOT tier trope thinking kids will like that instead of comically evil villains getting their shit pushed in by the good guys. Scar, Ursula, Jaffar etc
i actually saw this shit movie and i was thinking everything was going pretty well until this b***h showed up
And it was everything was going well for everyone until things didn't go the way SHE wanted and started an uprising
Another case of liberals writing a more likeable and compelling villain than the hero
Don’t care never saw it
Its SUCH a tiny nitpick but I hate the trope where the Disney female slowly figures something out by getting all quiet and intense, and quietly saying it out loud while staring into nothing
Once or twice I wouldnt even notice but its in every film, sometimes more than once
Its lazy bullshit. They think the audience are idiots who need things spelled out for them like a parent sounding out words to a baby. Either that or the writers are that dumb and that's how people explain things to them
For me its just such a theatre kid way to make a dramatic moment
"Wait.... but.... but thatd mean...... youre EVIL??"
so are the wishes actual magic wishes or just desires that people have? i'm trying to imagine a world where everybody gets an actual magic wish and it just ends up being either mass genocide and incels with rape dungeons or wishes that barely work because otherwise it would be a disaster
Actual wishes
Itd make more sense if they were dreams, in fact the whole story is crippled by the fact we're not talking about the residents having aspirations robbed from them but outlandish greedy wishes
so some guy can just wish that the whole movie basically never happened but that he was king instead then
Wait a minute, isn't this just a worse version of Wonder Woman 1984 (2020)?
Its like reverse Wonder Womyn 1984, which had a very standard "Be carefuk wgat you wish for" message
While Wish is "Everyone should get everything they ever want without working for it"
WW was about the danger of giving everyone what they wanted. Wish is about giving everyone what they want but they actually have to pay for it and how that's supposedly a bad thing
>MAN arbitrarily granting wishes is le bad
>sike Asha becomes the fairy Godmother! Happy ending
>no rent
>no taxes
>benevolent
>accepting of immigrants regardless of their origin ,
>determined to keep his people safe as not to relive a tragedy from his past
But when an entitled Black person who completely blew her job interview asks for immediate gibs and he dares to chastise her by saying nepotism is not okay he’s suddenly le power hungry and evil
