The word on the Hollywood street is that ATJ, originally hesitant to do Bond, has taken the role due to this movie probably doing huge damage to him as a leading man. It'll be announced in the coming months, maybe his casting as Bond could boost Kraven.

Venom is a "villain" with an entire central gimmick that he's not that bad, a big grudge people had with Spider-Man 3 is it removed all of his sympathetic qualities entirely (which is bizarre because the trilogy piled said qualities onto Dr. Octopus and even fricking Hobgoblin)

Even as a child he was my favorite because he was just the guy who gets shit done and is willing to literally bite somebody's head off to save the world

I mean frick the whole point of the Carnage character, who himself now goes back three decades, is just "what if Venom WAS that big of an butthole?"

Spider-Man TAS peaked with Venom tackling Baron Mordo through a portal to hell to save the world while feeling smug that this made him a way better hero than Spider-Man and Spider-Man PS1 has you fight Venom as the second or third level boss and then spend the rest of the game teamed with him to save New York City from Carnage

They need to keep a hold of the Spider-Man IP. They endager it if they only do the MCU tied Spider-Man movies, there can suddenly be a too long of a gap and the rights reverse back to Marvel.

A woman producer is making them.

Amy Pascal wasn't involved in Morbius, Madame Web or Kraven, tho.

Why pick these characters though? Why not Spider-Gwen? People love Spider-Gwen. Or Scarlet Spider. Or Miguel. If they wanted to do a live action Spider-Verse there’s so many options to choose from. Why villains like Morbius and Kraven that have no real star power.

for some reason Sony really wants to do a reverse Avengers movie and create the Sinister Six. Or I guess Suicide Squad but like its way too late for that. They arent even entertaining the idea of a Miguel movie

Why do they keep making Spiderman movies without Spiderman?
Are they hoping for Joker success

I think a Sinister Six movie could work if done right.
Making random standalone movies and having them meet up in the post credits scene isn't the way.

If they were doing the Sinister Six, they should have committed and did a post credit like the MCU did with Nick Fury recruiting the Avengers at the end of each solo film. Without something like that in the Sony Spider Verse, no one’s going to be hyped about these mediocre movies.

if they wanted to make a sinister six movie it really should've just been spiderman vs the sinister six with no build up and basically just been a greatest hits movie, maybe even get his spiderbros together.

The approach theyre doing right now is making 6 anti hero movies, but like then what is the movie going to be about? Spiderman kicking the ass of people we are supposed to like?

Theres definitely no mass appeal but the movie is supposed to be rated r so might be coo (lot of violent murders in the trailer)l.

The issue with villain movies is literally none of them are portrayed as villains like they are in the comics. You cant make a movie with someone who is 100% a villain, they always end up as anti heroes

Heist films exist. The two guys from Pulp Fiction aren’t exactly good guys. I think they could pull off a villain movie if they actually tried. Like Rhino acting as a hired gun for the mafia or something.

              >Last year, Emily Carmichael, co-writer of Pacific Rim: Uprising and the upcoming Jurassic World 3, who is set to direct an adaptation of the popular comic-book series Lumberjanes for Fox, took several meetings with Sony, during which she was struck by the scale of the studio’s ambitions for the Spidey Cinematic U. “I was one of the directors called in to pitch on Silver & Black,” Carmichael says in an email to Vulture. “At one of my early meetings on the project I got a peek at the phonebook-sized compendium of characters Sony has the rights to, all characters tangentially related to Spider-Man. It’s a cinematic universe, all right.”

              >Asked if she thought the focus on “second tier” characters limited the films’ financial prospects, the director defended Sony’s reasoning. “I heartily object that something known to a few is of a lower tier than something that is known by many,” Carmichael says. “There is nothing inherently problematic in this material. If the creative is good, it could be great.”

Technically she’s correct though. Before the Avengers, no one really cared about Captain America and Iron Man. Spider-Man and X-Men were the most popular Marvel heroes. MCU made Thor, Cap, Iron-Man more culturally relevant than they had ever been. Theoretically Sony could have done the same with Morbius and these others B list villains, but they just botched the execution by not making good movies. They had the right idea, but they didn’t have the talent to pull it off.

Exactly. With right people you can make a good movies out of anythig. Ben Affleck made a good movie about a shoe. It's not like you couldn't make Morbius into a working picture. The Wisdom of Crocodiles crossed with Blade/Underworld/Vampires could have worked.

In Johnson's case, he's already played a character in the MCU so I'm sure he understands the distinction but if he's not eligible for another Marvel role since his character is dead this is probably the best secondary option.

With Madame web I think it just boiled down to the actresses and their agents knowing absolutely fricking nothing about the source material and just looking at Venom making $900 mil and thinking "okay, I don't get it but the plebs seem to like this shit." Is the Sinister Six still happening? Apparently Hardy's leaving after Venom 3 and that's the only spin off that has been moderately successful

Venom isn't a main member of the S6 so it's irrelevant, but they've constantly teased the idea since asm2 set it up, and all the og members have appeared in the Holland trilogy, it's only a matter of time

            >but they've constantly teased the idea since asm2 set it up
They had Garfield signed up for TASM 3, 4 and Sinister Six spinoff. Drew Goddard had written a script (did that ever leak, btw?). Then MCU happened.

Anon the first tasm came out the same year as avengers, mcu was never an issue to tasm continuity until Sony decided to end the series and disney made their deal

I meant the MCU deal happened. Sony was adamant to keep their Spiderverse separate from Marvel Studios. I mean, Amy Pascal threw a sandwich at Feige when he offered to join forces.

btw here's that Silver Sable & Black Cat script that was offered to every A B and C actress in Hollywood, until no one took and it was split apart.

As a movie it was alright, felt like a ripoff of Hulk (2003) at times
As a venom movie frick no, and the sequel was even worse
First would actually be imo good if it had the gore that it needed so desperately

Hardy and Venoms back and forth are the saving grace of both films, not exactly great films outside of that

Honestly no one has ever cared about Kraven, Madame Web or Morbius. Ever. They are C tier side characters. Venom´s had a decent character growth over the past 20 years so i can see how he got some movies but he´s really not that interesting or popular by himself either.

I'm sorry, but did Madame Web already flop? Oh, that's right. The weekend isn't even over yet. In fact, it's only Thursday. Does not having a record-opening-Thursday count as a flop? Is that what you're saying? Because if you're saying that I can assure you that you're wrong. Why would you make this topic when the opening week isn't even over? Madame Web is still premiering right now in most locations and it has had the most presale tickets in February of this year for how many weeks now? It's premiering against one of the worst music-biopics in recent cinema that just happens to be performing well because it's feeding off the energy of opening on a Valentine's day holiday. But you know what? Bob Marley still fricking sucks. Madame Web is one of the best fricking movies in the super hero genre, Sony's spiderverse movies went 13-3 last awards seasons and would have saved the MCU if the Sony execs didn't choke. Maybe you should shut the frick up before you make moronic topics like this. You know why? Because you're going to be embarrassed when Madame Web is the highest grossing film of the year and someone bumps this topic. Oh look at that, a screening of Bob Marley just broke out into a brawl with several stabbing victims. Are you a fricking drunk? Are you moronic? Are you autistic? You are a fricking idiot and you should never make a topic on this board again and I'm fricking serious. I almost have a feeling you're the only guy making all these anti-Madame Web topics because you're a homosexual hater who doesn't like the movie because its too sexy. Frick you, be good at something in YOUR life and then maybe try to troll these fricking teams on the board, like I give a frick. It's so easy to spot out your threads now, you're a moron. Always doing stupid shit like this. Why don't you try to be a good poster? Just for once? For once in your fricking life try not to make a topic like this. That's just you, you're always right at getting it wrong. Frick you. You are nothing.

It's insane that we live in a world where the entire film industry revolves around capeshit, yet one media company refuses to develop solo Batman or Superman films and another media company gives every character who's ever interacted with Spider-Man their own feature film. It's the worst of both worlds

Superman: Legacy, The Batman Part II, The Brave and the Bold

Yeah, they're finally getting around to it but they had Affleck and Cavill under contract for like a decade and really did nothing with either of them besides the team-up films which weren't focused on either character

I'm not even really complaining since God knows we've had enough capeshit to go around the past few years but solely from an asset management perspective it's just absurd that Ant-Man got 3 solo films and Batfleck got zero.
