It was good (no reason why it wouldn't have been, same guy who did the Paddington movies) and it turned a profit. Just Cinemaphile being fat and wrong as always.

This guy vomiting at the mention of poor people for the first time genuinely had my cinema laughing for a solid minute. Was a surreal experience seeing that much joy in a packed theatre. Usually people hold it in but this guy broke open the floodgates.

Rest of the film was a fricking delight with nobody afraid to laugh out loud. I'm an ausgay so our cinemas are usually pretty quiet to be polite.

        Not Russell T Davies

I thought the final scene where he sings "Pure Imagination" as the factory appears was delightful.

        There are two possibilities:
        >you're lying
        >you're the kind of person who knowingly subjects their children to current-year Hollywood, Black person-filled (in a fricking Charlie and the Chocolate Factory prequel!) trash
Either way, your opinion can be safely discarded.

            See this...

Nice trips, but you missed my point. I've seen innumerable Wonka threads exactly like this one over the past few weeks, and *invariably* the totally-not-a-shill OP goes to see the film in spite of having been convinced it would be woke/shit, without any explanation as to why. Because that's totally normal behaviour: you're convinced an experience will be awful... so you pay to experience it anyway. (And you should totally value the opinions of someone who behaves like that.)

If OP had said "I didn't want to see it, but there was nothing else on, and I was dragged along by X", that would at least be somewhat believable (though I'd still question their judgement generally). I realise I'm helping the shill(s) be more convincing in the future, but Wonka's run is probably nearly over already, so I doubt it'll make any difference now.

And if going to see a derivative, nog-packed modern Hollywood offering (starring the uncharismatic israeli twink du jour) is your idea of "fun", I'm not sure we're the same species.

You expect people to write an entire detailed narrative for their reasons to seeing a movie? OP probably just went with friends like a normal person. It's not that deep.

Took my mom and sister to see it. The music was honestly the part I was hoping would be the saving grace... boy was I wrong. The "scrub scrub" song was very annoyingly bad. The "If you want to view paradise" repraise came too late to win back the favor based on nostalgia. The villan(s) song was a lame attempt. The innkeepers are just a shallow ripoff of the Thenardier's from Les Mis, which is a BORING plot thread. The board of 3 homosexuals makes so many bad jokes and "scrummy faces" that I wanted to puke. Go watch the Johnny Dep Charlie and the Chocolate factory for a better experience, because that one was also garbage but at least it had soul. Timothay was probably the most bareable part of the flick, but he can not sew the anti-hero mystique of Wonka and he's too sweet and sentimental to be the man, origins or not. Also the subplot that he can't fricking read is the most moronic plot device I've ever heard. Good day

In the Gene Wilder film I believe Wonka said he owned Slugworth's company, is this true or am I misremembering? If he did then I wonder how it went from Slugworth's arrest to Wonka acquiring the company, I'm assuming he got rich and all his dreams came true and yada yada, but then did he create a flase advertisement in that he had no intention of following through the "slugworth" spy's offer to the kids?
But if he didn't own Slugworth then didn't the spy experiment he did with the golden ticket winners count as misrepresenting and defaming Slugworth for such tactics and attacked his character?

It was ok. Not amazing, not terrible. Too many pointless/mediocre songs, but it had its moments.
Better than Burton’s, worse than Gene Wilder’s.
