WTF was this?

Was this even a movie or just a bunch of studio notes that were filmed and edited together?
What was the point of the nuke scene? Who put it there? Gabriel's people? Where'd they get it from?
Why did Kittridge send mercenaries to kill Ilse? And how did Ethan find them? How did they find her? What was she doing in the middle of the desert? And how did she get the first key to begin with? Didn't the Russians get both keys from the dead captain? Why were they separated? Were they stolen? By whom? Somebody working for Ilse? Why did she want it? To control the Entity? Why? And how did she even find about it?
Who actually was Gabriel? A terrorist? Mercenary? Some kind of oligarch? Why did the filmmakers give him a past with Ethan that made no difference to the story? Ethan obviously wasn't at all haunted or traumatized in the first movie.
What was the deal with the party sequence? Why didn't Gabriel just steal the key for himself? Why involve a intermediary (Kirby) at all? And what was all that stuff about how Ethan needed to choose between Ilse and Grace (Atwell)? How would Gabriel know this? And why would Ethan need to choose at all? For what purpose? Does he want Ethan alive? If so, why? Does the Entity want Ethan alive? Literally what the FRICK was going on here?
I never had a problem following these movies before this. Almost everything in this movie seemed random.

OP here. I actually liked the AI element, but it wasn't developed nearly enough. I was expecting it to start taking over the world and broadcasting fake news stories to cause chaos, but it never happened. Its motivations and relationship to Gabriel was never explained. It was just there.
I just hope part 2 clears things up.

Slapdash piece of Boomer shit that is mediocre in every way except for the stunts, which don't save this movie by any measure. Designed to not offend anyone in any international market. Heterosexuality is basically a ghost in this movie. It's a cartoon that takes itself too seriously. Worst of all, it's just filled with old people doing things that young people should be doing. Even the movie prior to this is a masterpiece compared to it.

It's utter garbage but Cruise can at least use the excuse that it was a Covid-19 movie. Likely the biggest production that tried to plow on through covid. It feels like it was shot during covid though so they may as well have not bothered. 99% of the shots are one actor on their own, obviously due to covid restrictions.

It's mad that they fumbled so badly after Fallout. All they had to do was make Fallout again and they fricked it.

      > All they had to do was make Fallout again and they fricked it.

That's kind of what they did though. Apart from a couple of contrivances, I don't think there is much difference between the two. Personally, that was most of my issue with it.
I still liked it as a cinema experience and am way more content with it than Dunc.

honestly the only part I liked was Pom driving the APC and laughing like a maniac.
but I thought the movie had way too much action and stunts and no classic MI tricks. no elaborate fabricated scenarios to frick with a villain's mind.

It's just 30 minutes too long, and the antagonist seems like shit after coming from Fallout with Cavill. Also I like Hayley and she pairs well with Cruise, but not at the expense of replacing Ferguson

      >Also I like Hayley and she pairs well with Cruise, but not at the expense of replacing Ferguson

They should've used what they have with Kirby. Nothing wrong with a tsundere love interest if Ferguson insisted on getting out of the franchise. Hayley was just too obvious a replacement.

    >What was the point of the nuke scene?
Really, really, really bad attempt at tension.
    >"don't tell Ethan a nuclear bomb is going to go off and distract him."
    >15 seconds left on nuclear detonation let's waste time with quips and pointless arguing.
Then there's the tech magic that is taken to such an absolute moron level it might as well be Dungeons & Dragons at this point.

moronic, the gas stove would stop working after 3 seconds if it got disconnected from it's flex gas line
Also modern railcar kitchens, like multifamily and commercial residences, are going electric due to green agenda leftist policies. I know this because I actually work in said HVAC and appliance industries.

Also, on note of the movie, yeah, they didn't have a script and tried to plow through it through COVID and it shows. What a terrible fricking movie, considering Fallout was the one before it and it was actually a great sendoff if they made that the last movie (should have so, Cruise is too old now and they didn't get a charismatic replacement yet and Hollywood is dying)
