It still kills me that they intended this to be an exciting announcement but it instead comes off as an ominous warning.
I remeber going to my LCS that Wednesday and I told him I'd probably drop Superman and he said that's what everyone was telling him. I dropped Superman and I just assume others did too.
i did
I gave him a chance. two issues I think
I pretty much dropped superhero comics as a whole. Superman getting into bed and saying goodnight to his family was clearly the best place to call it a day
It's a callback.
Comparing a fricking hack like Bendis to Kirby is frankly not helping the argument. They were completely ignorant about his declining popularity or the sentiment regarding his dialogue.
If Bendis was half at writing as he is at talking shit then there'd be no problem
I was not trying to help the argument, merely explain how out of touch DC is.
I mean sure Bendis is bad, but Kirby's books despite all the acclaim, weren't doing anywhere near Fantastic Four numbers either. All his Fourth World books were cancelled due to low sales.
Fifty year old, unverifiable sales numbers don’t really have a place here.
Besides which, Kirby didn’t frick up anything that was already there and his work has been drawn upon by generations of writers and artists.
Bendis is still not comparable to Kirby.
>Comparing Bendis to the fricking king
Thanks, now I hate DC even more.
i dropped reading comics because of him, is he still in charge?
They were out of touch and thought he was still doing 00s-era sales numbers even though those numbers were public.
No, he's gone from the big two.
Isn’t he still pitching a Legion of Superheroes show?
And whenever that comes out, he’s suppose to have dibs on a LoSH comic.
So Bendis ain’t done with DC yet.
NTA but its over even didio arent working with big 2 anymore hes at frank miller publishing company
Okay, then I wonder why DC is not putting out any new LoSH content?
I assumed they were waiting on Bendis.
>is not putting out any new LoSH content?
they probably still waiting for hickman
>Isn’t he still pitching a Legion of Superheroes show
Like the one from the early 2000s?
It was suppose to be for HBO Max.
I forget if it was a cartoon or live action.
But Bendis was given full reign.
Bendis. No thanks.
I don't think they've said anything else about it.
Also considering that James Gunn didn't get along with the Creative Committee (which included Bendis), I'm having doubts that the Bendis Legion show is still happening.
No, but the comics are still feeling the effects from his influence because DC refuses to admit they made such a massive blunder.
Marvel is just as bad with doubling down on his bullshit like gay Iceman and killing the long term x-men romances like Kitty/Colossus and Emma/Scott.
>but what about muhvel
pathetic Dogshit Company fanboy
I can't stand Iceman's stories anymore.
He never had good stories to begin with. No his depression manifesting as a global level blizzard wasn't a good story.
>Inhuman boyfriend
>named Romeo
>haha get it?
should’ve just paired him with Johnny Storm
You were reading some shit-ass, b***h-ass comics if Bendis scared you away.
What happened to his run?
Chucked Jon and Lois into space so Jon could get aged up into a teenager.
He unironically ruined everything.
didio said that bendis got sick during his run and the original plan never worked out.
jon was to go to the future with the los to train and get aged up so that he could fight superman who would become more authoritarian and evil.
Huh?
Morrison says that Didio told him they were going to make Superman a fascist but Dan likely just said that to trick one more Superman book out of him.
But why?
Didio really enjoyed getting Superman books out of Moz. All Star, Action Comics.
DiDio and Jim Lee are 2 frick ups who are ruining DC right now
moron
Didio was fired.
His contract ended and that was from over a year ago, so I don't think it's happening.
Lee is still there as his yes man and making sure warner doesn't send Johns back to DC
HEAT needs to come back
Oh god this guy with his conspiracy theories that he knows to be are bullshit but spreads them anyways.
That sounds even worse
>who would become more authoritarian and evil.
So that was were Morrison's Authority was going to end up as?
I will never forgive Bendis for deciding to chuck Flash Thompson into space on a quest to ruin symbiote backstories forever, the dominoes of which have continued to fall for the past 8 years and show no sign of stopping
They were expecting the second coming of the "King Is Coming" era, because DC is run by the worst kind of nostalgia prostitutes...
It's hilarious to think how much money DC lost on Bendis.
yeah just imagine how much money DC would generate for supersons storyline where jon kent and damian wayne growing up together, they could just easily milk their supersons cashcow but instead aging up jon to satisfy maybe 5 peoples and still not gaining new reader for gay jonsuperman
I also really enjoy that Jim Lee quote where he was like "You can really feel the creativity coming from Bendis!" and then he proceeded to create such classic, unforgettable DC creations such as Rogol Zaar
WHAT BOY
ME BOY
HE BOY
NEW FROM THE CREATIVE MIND OF MARVEL SUPERSTAR BRIAN MICHAEL BENDIS THE MOST PROGRESSIVE ALL NEW ALL DIFFERENT SUPERHERO EVER -SHE BOY!-
Ironically Bendis didn't write a lot to actually get mad about.
His writing methods in Marvel got old and his ideas in DC were god awful along with his writing style
Might the most poorly thought out promotion in comics in decades
frick you brian, I was enjoying this
For Superman that entire era was one of healing. Fans were returning and it was selling very strongly. DC was so disconnected from reality to just kill it for a hack like Bendis who had long stopped being a major seller.
can we get a story from Jurgens kind of like DC Generations but just only starring SuperLex and Bat-Gordan ala Nu52 Worlds' Finest with E2 Powergirl/Huntress. I just want those version of those two characters to interaction.
Man, this was a fun time. Its a shame that Lex taking over Apocalypse was done so badly. It felt like that subplot got axed early instead of letting it play out fully.
This proves that DC is so disconnected with what happens in the comics. No form of control or protection for the characters. Everything with a few exceptions had been utter garbage. Only animated movies, TV shows, and cartoons count I guess.
Between him and Tom Taylor. They singlehandedly ruined the super-mythos. We can only hope for a reboot. But if either of these two are still at DC, there is no point of rebooting.
It's another 8 months at least before we can expect a full Crisis reboot.
i do believe dc gonna make terrible decision theyll full reboot comic universe concurrently with james gunn new dceu
I stopped reading DC when he arrived. Have things honestly gotten better since he left? The impression I've gotten is "no".
Surprisingly, it's somewhat better, but really not as better as it should be.
Penis is cumming!
lol
I'm a casual reader but I remember really enjoying the super family stuff. I liked Jon and Damian's dynamic and how the two were being raised in a relatively good environment where the stories could be optimistic and pleasant without some edgy subversion. When I heard that they aged up Jon, my interest nosedived. I knew that it was only a matter of time until he was silently pushed into the corner and forgotten about.
On a sidenote, did Benis had anything to do with teen lantern?
Yeah Bendis created Teen Lantern.
Side note, she’s not even a teen, she’s 12.
Has anyone else noticed Damian is aging rapidly while other characters aeound him aren't?
Bendis is responsible for probably the most popular avengers/Spider-Man run.
Also sometimes when writers switch between Marvel and DC it can revitalize them if they were putting out stale stuff. Like look at Waid.
Compared to Stan Lee or Shooter-era Marvel? No.
> look at Waid.
I’d rather not, he’s even uglier than Bendis.
>most popular avengers
Absolutely not. As an Avenfers fan, Bendis' control was 8 long years of shit. He had the excellent fortune of working with the best artists in the biz and the book drove events. Units sold always outpaced the quality of the writing. His dialogue is atrocious. Not because of the goofy Mamet aping, although that sucks too, but because it was monolithic. Characters were completely flattened, there was no differentiation, no individual voices.
Not to mention his rampant ignorance of continuity, even his own. Frick Bendis, boycott Bendis.
As someone who hadn't been an Avengers fan I didn't mind his Avengers run. Then Bendis went to X-Men and I understood exactly why Avengers fans cursed his name. Then he literally destroyed Superman. Frick Bendis. Never again reading a book by that piece of shit garbage hack.
>Then Bendis went to X-Men and I understood exactly why Avengers fans cursed his name.
Hell Wanda's STILL suffering from the character assassination to this day.
You know popular does not equate the best right?
>best avengers
anon, he straight up shit on characters just because other people did things with characters before he wrote the characters. it was a pissing match beneath even the most immature of elementary schoolers
Other than the Jon thing, what exactly did he do? I don’t read comics.
He tried to break Clois up, made Damian future Hitler, derailed Cereal Lord's plans for a Legion reboot, and hi grand original vision was to send Superman back to the no secret identity status quo he just left two years prior.
I feel like most of these writers do this out of spite.
honest to god I would have prefered Johns Legion he has at least some respective for the source Bendis legion was a such a nothing burger outside of wanking teen jon and letting him frick dyke cut saturn girl
Not to mention he destroyed the Bottled City of Kandor for no fricking reason and retconned his super special OC as the one that destroyed Krypton all along. That run is a master class in hack writing.
Bendis is the one writer who takes the "nothing will ever be the same again" tagline to heart. But in like the absolute worst way.
What's more truly baffling is that Superman wasn't the main reason he went to DC. DC promised Bendis the Wonder Comics line, BEFORE throwing Superman in, almost as an afterthought.
I was working as a digital production artist at DC during this era. I remember cracking up in the middle of a meeting when they showed us the Bendis is Coming ad expecting us to be hyped and impressed.
yeah my mom work for nintendo too
Goes to Batman, Gotham taken over
Goes to Superman, Metropolis taken over
Goes to Wonder Woman, bored out of my mind
DC is dead
Jurgens should get legion.
Despite being a companies that have historically just abandoned a lot of talent for getting old, the Big 2 have bought into the "superstar writers" myth so hard that they have a really difficult time figuring out when a former "big name" has fallen from grace and is likely to drive away more readers than he'll bring in. There are a lot of parallels between DC bringing in Bendis and giving him Superman in the 2010s and Marvel bringing back John Byrne and giving him Spider-Man in the late 90s, the audience had turned against them by then and didn't want them, but the industry thought they were still a draw. There are probably still people at Marvel who would re-hire Bendis because they can't comprehend a star talent not being a star anymore.
>bendis ruins daredevil
>bendis ruins x-men's beast, prompting greatest character assassination in comic book history
>bendis ruins superman
how does he keep getting away with it?
BoDs from either company were completely out of touch and thought Bendis was a superstar.
