>has only ever displayed complete devotion to her lord, following his command to every letter >proceeds to do that and dies from it >WOMEN EMPOWERMENT MOMENT!
i hate feminists so fricking much its unreal
Idk i dropped off after 4 or so episodes but I distinctly remember her convoy getting ambushed and her fighting off a bunch of mooks with a naginata while still wearing her knee-binding court dress so they're probably referring to that.
You're going to make me look this up you fricker and it's going to take longer than this thread will be up so ill catch ya next thread with the receipts because I definitely remember it happening and I didn't get to episode 7. I stopped when they introduced the new villain.

it was in episode 3, there was an ambush in the woods. i think Mariko killed a couple guys but so did everyone else in Toranaga's retinue.
Thanks anon, just finished looking it up for the overly defensive guy
I'm 7 episodes in and this hasn't happened yet so you are full of shit.
Episode 3 at the 24:00 minute mark, friend. Please recall that I didn't make any judgement on this scene on my post but rather pointed out what the OPs image might be referring to.
>Nothing Happens: The Show
Jap culture is the most frustrating thing to watch. It's like watching paint dry. These fricking bug men sleep on wood floors. They live in these shitty bamboo dwellings and call them castles. Every room looks like a gym room.
It shouldn't be, ultimately Mariko is getting herself killed so her lord can win a power struggle he's involved in, it's not like it some grand honorable sacrifice she's making. Is this what really passes for slaaaay queen girlbossing nowadays?
Her trying to "fight" her way out of Osaka is straight from the book. I haven't watched the 1980 version in a while but I guarantee it's still there as well.
Then the 1980 version changed it from the book, because her plan of trying to "fight" her way out just to declare that she will commit seppuku out of shame at failing is in there.
I guess that works too, but we got some samurai fighting kino since the 2024 version went the book route.

yeah it wasn't bad all things considered, I wish they'd fleshed out her and Blackthorne's relationship a bit more though

Me too but Mariko and Blackthorne's actors had enough chemistry that it was believable enough and the seppuku scene where he offers to do it was kino. Ultimately you have to sacrifice something to get more of the politics in the new version.

Does Hiromatsu commit seppuku in the book? In the 80's version he's pretty absent.

No. The meeting with all his generals happens but when the generals start getting uppity Toranaga orders a bunch of them to commit seppuku and then orders Hiromatsu to bring the rest of them in line. This version simplified it to Hiromatsu killing himself to show the rest of the generals how serious Toranaga is about no one contradicting his orders. Then obviously we learn Hiromatsu killing himself was part of the keikaku all along which obviously also wasn't in the book, but I thought it was a nice addition.

Fair enough, more dramatic that way I guess. I much prefer Toronaga in the 80's show though.

Hiromatsu's actor pushed for the idea of just himself committing seppuku
One thing I really miss from the book is the lighthearted cultural exchange between Anjin and Toranaga. The hornpipe and the "unless you win"(2024 show ruined it). It does not show that mutual cross-cultural interest. It's needed to show that Toranaga has a casual side to him, too.
I like Toranaga in this version. Constantly btfo'ing muh honor shit and doing whatever is needed to survive. The reveal that as a 12 year old he fricked up the seppuku decapitation was a great scene.
from IGN btw
YASS JIGC ROOOOOCCCCK
I thought this show was supposed to be about the Shogun
yes the shogun is there, while some pirate fricks some japanese
How naive.
>has only ever displayed complete devotion to her lord, following his command to every letter

>WOMEN EMPOWERMENT MOMENT!
i hate feminists so fricking much its unreal
they're not men, they're japs
you all scream woke but she was a mary sue in the book too and it released decades ago
we're is not critcizing the character or screaming 'woke'
we're criticizing wokies trying to explain her through their twisted worldview
>mary sue
All she does is seduce a white guy and die in an explosion.
Wtf are they referring to? Mariko getting beaten by like 10 dudes and then saying she's going to commit seppuku, which was all part of a plan?
yeah, i don't get the fuss.

>*flees the thread in shame*
Seppuku claims another one
Now that it's over can we all agree that the book was better?

The men were under strict orders not to harm her. It's literally a woman throwing a tantrum and having to be restrained.
Isn't this an unironic good 'empowering' moment though? She knows she can't win but fights anyways

>fought through hordes of men to reach her goal... BWC sama
It's just the cancer of the modern writers room, she just had to have the girl boss moment
Her trying to "fight" her way out of Osaka is straight from the book. I haven't watched the 1980 version in a while but I guarantee it's still there as well.
It's not she just uses diplomacy
Then the 1980 version changed it from the book, because her plan of trying to "fight" her way out just to declare that she will commit seppuku out of shame at failing is in there.
in the 80's version she declares her intentions to commit suicide after the meeting with Ishido and lady Ochiba where he refuses to let her leave
I guess that works too, but we got some samurai fighting kino since the 2024 version went the book route.

1980s Mariko had depth. 2024 Mariko flicks between "So sad want to die" and smug unlikeable c**t.
I haven't been on the internet in a very long time. Wtf is this homosexual shit?
