Iron Man has a lot less quips than Guardians. In any case, whether you like them the most or not, they're the most tailored to the Reddit crowd, and very much in line with what the dude in OP is talking about.

Whedon was born in 1964. He is a boomer by definition. This fact makes more sense anyway.

It's 'millennial' because it's first adopted for shows made targeted to millennial audience.
Now all current millennial writers write in the same way, because it's what they grew up with.
Whedon wasn't making shows when he was a baby, when he was born is irrelevant. '64 is Gen X btw.

it's petty semantics to argue over 1 year anyway. Whedon wrote for Gen X audiences. His voice and style mostly certainly carries those sensibilities more. If he's technically a boomer just proves his a moron and should have been held back a year or two.

Actually thought it made way more sense for him to be gen x, that writing is peak gen x to me, remember trying to watch G4 as a kid and it was the lamest shit ever. Think “millennial writing” meme is just millennials being to zoomers what Americans are to non-Americans and whites are to non-whites, kind of a complex and a need for them to be bad. Zoomers have the exact same presence as ESLs, same lack of self-awareness, same aggressive projecting. The global/diverse/zoomer internet is so insanely insecure.

That's dumb. Millennials also had some of the most self-serious films targeted at them, even blockbusters like Bond and Nolan's Batman.

You can't please everyone. Personally I'm all for stripping the average movie entirely of humor, even that "one scene" as Whedon would put it, but a lot of people get angry at that too.
And especially when it comes to capeshit, people complain when there's quips but rage even harder when there aren't.

                It's pretty common, even here.
                >MCU bad because quips, but also, serious capeshit bad because no quips
And you can certainly make the argument that all capeshit is bad, except this applies to ALL movies now. They either have too many quips or they're too self-serious. It's grating. Also, American humor has never been all that great. The ZAZ comedies like Airplane & Scary Movie are funny, but ironically, they were written by israelites.

marvel humor (or more specifically joss whedon) influenced a lot of terrible movies/shows over the last decade. it’s called millennial writing.

Whedon writing and millennial writing are different. Whedon writing is quintessential gen x quips and bathos. Millennial writing is something far far worse and not nearing saturation yet because for some god forsaken reason it is getting praise from morons. Millennial writing is overbaked and overwritten verbal exchanges. The perfect example is The Bear. Every scene in The Bear grinds to a halt while the characters enter a moronic verbal sparring match comprised of twitter clapbacks. There is never an authentic moment because everything is too clever and intentioned but delivered without an iota of pause or hesitation. It's an entire writing style of cringe l'esprit de l'escalier.

I have a theory that even someone tolerable themselves can ruin things just by encouraging hacks to ape them

For example, I don't mind any of Tarantino's movies yet there's so many directors, especially in the '00s, that needed to be fricking strangled for trying to make their own "Tarantino movie"

People who watched Buffy and were fat gay morons that got writing jobs did more damage to Hollywood than Joss Whedon himself did

If you watch something like Our Man in Havana or The Horse's Mouth you'll find an interesting story where some situations and characters are funny, but there is still something in there about hope and beauty.
Watch something like The Other Guys or Tropic Thunder and you'll have an interesting story, a message and tons of funny scenes that work alone.
With Marvel you get just quips, meaningless small jokes that could be cut from the movie and nothing would change. Marvel got like 20 movies and 10 different shows, but there is nothing remarkable about it.

The actual answer is that studios realized they could funnel the money that would usually go to mid-budget comedies into their too-big-to-fail blockbusters and get the usual comedy crowd to go to those instead by tossing jokes into the script. This essentially killed the comedy film genre (at least from a business standpoint) and threw off the career track comedians had been relying on for decades. Notice how SNL cast members staying for like 10+ years is becoming the norm when they used to only do a couple seasons? It's part of the same issue: the movies they usually graduate to aren't being funded anymore since studios are combining comedy+action, giving the comedy actors nowhere else to go.

Most people? Yep that's why the movies were passed around so much on TV and movie stores etc because most people agree with you...homosexual. how are you going to call all the sequels shit but then praise garbage like the 2018 one? have a nice day

I'm tired of marvel too but his take was moronic. He said when talking to steve o that marvel movies are so big that people go to the theater expecting giant budget movies and that's all audiences want to see now so it means studios don't make the mid or small budget movies.

Even in the comments everyone said that was moronic. Who fricking picks a movie based on budget? literally no one.

that's literally how it is tho

Do you actually pick movies based on budget?
whatever you think of the Sound of Freedom it did very well and was low budget. Plenty of big budget movies have bombed this year. People ant to see good movies, and if a decent comedy came out people would be lining up to see it.

Making comedy just chuckle worthy for the past decade or so is what's killing comedy. Even Dave Chappelle is guilty of it.

No, the danger hair trannies have made comedy tame.

You know the thing that irks me the fricking most from mcu is the line what's the play. I hate it and every other property everywhere started and keeps using it.

i liked when people could make racist, sexist jokes and even those people who the joke was about participated, because they knew it was just that, a joke.

I get what he is trying to say. However comedies that are getting released have been usually shit. Example his latest comedy The Out-Laws was fricking shit.
It's no suprise the audience will watch a superhero movie for comedy elements.

comedy movies used to be fearless. regularly racist and sexist if it was for a good laugh. now they are too scared. audiences can tell it's a neutered experience.

Barbie had some good laughs and that was as woke as it comes. Ricky Gervais is "fearless" but he is one of the most unfunny people I've ever seen. Comedy just needs to be witty again. That's it.

The MCU has its flaws sure, but filmmakers taking the wrong lessons from its success are even more moronic.

My theory is better and im taking over the thread.

Buddy cop films, pairing a two different races were MK Ultra tier weapons in defeating racism. Actual Ex caliber swords that would end racism. Lethal Weapon, Rush Hour, MiB etc. To the point its military grade success and when shit hits the fan again with race relations. We will see an onslaught of buddy cop films

I was watching Strange New Worlds, really enjoying it, when outta fricking nowhere, they bring in some time-traveling guests from “The Lower Decks,” and they brought their “tone” along with them. Seeing it made me fully appreciate the depth and breadth of Joss Whedon’s crimes against art and drama. Rick and Marty, The Lower Decks, and a host of other shows with that same flippant style of writing all tie back directly to Joss Whedon and what he introduced to the MCU. When every character’s Spider-Man, none of them are.

The market is larger now. You know the world population increases each year right? You know that more people transition from poverty to middle class each year right?

You can litrially produce trash and it it'll make a billion as long the Chinese watch your film, or there's no other movies out competing for the same audience.

25 years ago you had to be the best of 30 films in order to make cash... look as what movies were made in 1997, 98 or 99. A lot are classics now, and didn't make shit at the time becuase of competition.

This was posted in the wrong thread, it was meant to be in the one where a homosexual is whining Oppenheimer and Barbie are making a billion but classic films 30+ years ago made shit
