I need to watch multiple 10 hour video essays on this show before I can formulate my opinions on this nicktoon.
Anime CAN do it, it just usually chooses not to
3 seasons is clearly the ideal
I love AtlA
I tried watching MP season 3 but realized i forgot 80% of what happened the first two seasons
Its THAT forgettable
Why is your own shitty memory a flaw of the show?
I love ATLA but Mob Psycho mogs it honestly
>anon forgot about the lion turtle asspull
it's okay to like pleb shit anon.
Or the conveniently hit on that exact spot of his back, causing to activate the Avatar state again
>doesn't know about spiritual journeys or suppressed trauma metaphors
Holy shit imagine being filtered by a children's show. If you haven't seen it since you were a shiteating kid it's understandable at least.
Making a badly done plot point into a metaphor doesn't stop it from being badly done.
>badly done
It's literally well established that Aang will enter the avatar state when he's pushed to the edge. The Ozai fight is the best time it's done outside of maybe the air temple.
It was established that he had both a physical and mental block and may never enter the avatar state again if he didn't complete his training with the monk. And then pure luck fixed that.
The mental block was him not being willing to let his friends go which he was able to do in the crossroads of destiny episode. He was then traumatized by nearly dying in the Avatar state and fricking everyone over permanently. There's no physical blockage of the Avatar state established. It's meant physical representation of his trauma. He didn't need to literally hit that point to use the Avatar state again, it's just on the nose visual storytelling that even a child would be able to grasp. Assuming the child doesn't spend the majority of his time jamming sticks up his nose and actually has a brain.
Doesn't matter
Those were asspulls needed because otherwise Aang would've been brutally mogged by Ozai
Not at all but you can continue believing that if you want.
I mean those are bad, but they don't make the show as a whole less than 'good.' They keep it from being a masterpiece certainly, but 'good' is the lowest level of praise I think anyone could rightfully give it.
>NOOOOOOO YOU CAN'T HAVE A MIRACULOUS TRIUMPH IN THE CLIMAX OF YOUR HERO'S JOURNEY THAT'S NOT LIKE LIFE THAT'S NOT LIKE *MY* IT'S NOT BORING AND REALISTIC AND DULL AND POINTLESS AND SHITTY AND BLEAK AND AND AND *begins sobbing*
>filtered plotgay
>caring about the aang storyline when the zuko/iroh storyline is obviously the main part of the show
shit like this is every day stuff for the avatar
i don't expect a pleb like you to have
>without the shitty cliché
it has clichès, but american ones, so you don't notice them as much
>power levels
it's literally built on superpowers
Season one has all of that but otherwise yeah its a great show.
Season 1 is a pretty slow start to the series, it's got good high points like The Southern Air Temple, the season finale episodes, and The Storm, but it's definitely the weakest season.
It's something you need to get through to appreciate the cooler stuff from seasons 2 and 3
I've never really had a problem with the 'cop out' ending.
I guess the show had earned enough good will in my eyes that by the ending I was willing to ignore plot contrivances and just enjoy the drama and the atmosphere and visuals and whatnot.
Sorry, put the wrong pic
>Spend 3 episodes dumping paragraphs and paragraphs of exposition to explain a 5 minute fight
Extremely annoying. The only justifiable time they do it is the Nen explanation episode.
That whole moronic statement is proof you didnt watch and just shitposting
I've seen it and I'm quite serious. Overexplanation is my biggest issue with anime and Hunter Hunter is one of the worst examples of this.
Does this shit get good again after they get their hunter licenses? I really enjoyed the first part of the show, but then the 'going to fetch Killua from his parents house' mini-arc killed all the momentum. I dragged myself through watching them spend an entire episode on opening a gate, then for the whole thing to conclude with his parents just letting him go for some reason. Then they started another stupid mini-arc in the tournament, introduced some bizarre magic system and it felt like I was just watching filler fights over and over.
You really don't know about the Chimera Ant arc?
How would I if I haven't reached it yet?
I'll choose to trust you and give it another shot anon
Greed Island is good and Chimera Ants arc is literally the best shonen arc ever written. I agree the Killua retrieval arc sucks.
>Chimera Ants arc is literally the best shonen arc ever written
Not at all, though I did love a few of the arcs certain characters go through. I'm assuming the majority of the fans of this show are pure plotgays that don't mind a mountain of exposition before and after every character interaction. Mind explaining why you love it so much?
NTA but I think CA arc is the single most overrated Shonen arc today. The nuke itself fundamentally undermines the role of Nen and Nen users within the setting.
Hunter hunter in general is overrated garbage.
not nearly as overrated as avatar the last air bender, seeing Cinemaphilegays desperately scramble for anything that isn't blues clues level. So they can "stick it to anime fans" when their animation of choice and creators behind it were mostly inspired by anime. IS pretty hilarious.
>In an interview, Konietzko said: "Mike and I were really interested in other epic 'Legends & Lore' properties, like Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings, but we knew that we wanted to take a different approach to that type of genre. Our love for Japanese anime, Hong Kong action and kung fu cinema, yoga, and Eastern philosophies led us to the initial inspiration for Avatar: The Last Airbender."[21]
incoming Cinemaphilepe
Only the artstyle was an "anime inspiration" for atla. Its storytelling style is very clearly western, since it doesn't have any shitty anime tropes that only autistic morons can tolerate.
Phantom Troupe arc is pretty kino, Chimera any ace is pretty overrated
The way the chrollo zoldyck fight ends is fantastic, as well as the conductor sequence
based Yorkshinners
Even if Chimera arc is the most famous arc, I really like the way Yorkshin is paced
Sorry, I'm not watching 100s of episodes of this garbage.
Most fans would tell you to read the manga anyways
Should have been a LN series.
The chimera ant arc is the longest, slowest piece of shit arc in all of anime. Yorknew city might be the best anime arc of all time
It might be slow to the point I thought it might be a parody, but Netero's fight versus Meruem at the end of it is the closest shonenshit will ever come to being legitimate action kino.
The pacing is dogshit and its super boring
this really killed interest in any anime I had previously watched
if your shounen plot doesn't have a living world where things happen and they leave an influence on eachother then I am not watching
if the world revolves around the main character and bends the reality to him then I am not watching
if story doesn't have characters with interesting personalities and intereactions with eachother then I am not watching
In ~20 years I will have VR sex with Katara and Korra.
It's honestly incredible how it mogs 99% of anime
Avatar manchildren HOWLING ITT
>HOW DO WE MAKE AANG BEAT THE FINAL BOSS
>asspull dragon turtle give him a power up
Here's that non-cliche, good plot progression, good character development show that's not about power level asspulls.
>comments disabled because youtube children
lmao west cuck Cinemaphile trannies. What are the deeper sociopolitical implications of aang getting a power up and beating the final boss and throwing him in bad boy jail.
This is a theme park ride for children yet they act like it's the best thing ever animated. Western animation fans really reaching.
>CSMtroon makes an abhorrent post
The giant turtle plot point wasn't about Aang being able to beat the fire lord, it was about him not having to kill the fire lord
>You fool. You cretinous fool. Every single thing that happens in a plot must be the result of a gradually and autistically mathematically linear progression. You cannot--YOU CANNOT under any circumstances have mysterious or mystical elements in your story. Everything must eventually be explained by a logically consistent system, preferably mapped out in a diagram. Miracles do not happen in real life- I don't care if they do, they shouldn't happen in stories. Stories are merely logical puzzles, the gradual solution of which provides dopamine. Spare me of your asspulls. If my brain could overlook such lapses in logic, I would be as equally entertained watching sensory overload spectacles with my 3 year old niece.
Meanwhile they clap and shit their pants over an old man having a nuke stuffed inside himself.
>Meanwhile they clap and shit their pants over an old man having a nuke stuffed inside himself.
yes, that's cool as hell. I would go into detail and explain it for you but you like cartoons, where the hero gets an asspull power up at the end and throws fire hitler into bad boy prison.
I haven't even watched avatar I don't watch little baby cartoons it's just your hypocrisy is astounding.
>narrators are le bad, because they are le bad, even though the narrator is barely there
besides I like greed island more
>where the hero gets an asspull power up at the end and throws fire hitler into bad boy prison.
Yes.
>where the hero gets an asspull power up at the end and throws fire hitler into bad boy prison.
Whats good boy prison?
The nuke is an asspull. He literally stuffed it up his ass.

itt animeBlack folk critiquing a show by talking about its plot. How typical.
True
>Cinemaphile Cinemaphile CO/ Cinemaphile CO/ Cinemaphile CO/ Cinemaphile
Yeah, you really are mindbroken. Keep seething, lmao.
>make an uppity anime bashing thread with avatar
yeah gee who can be behind this
your seethe is showing still waiting for that apology.
even to the avatar creators themselves you just shit on their favourite animes. please apologize.
>mass reply post
>I'm not seething, YOU'RE seething
Haha calm down friendo. It's all just banter in the end
>If aang kills fire bender hitler he is as bad as him
wow so deep, star wars and batman did it better 30 years before.
Blame Nickelodeon. This was pre-Obama, they weren't going to allow them to show a 12 year old killing a human.
Aang's dead airbending masters clearly had no problem choking the hundreds of fire-benders that came to burn them alive.
>power levels
what's wrong with power levels?
you have shit taste in the western bubble Avatar is great but when you include anime avatar is vastly mediocore
You just havent watched good anime homosexual
>You just havent watched good anime homosexual
Name 5 (please)
>best western animation is just a cheap imitation of hunter hunter....
westoid brothers
You hunter homosexuals actually defend that there is a literal narrator explaining everything thats happening in the supposed ''best arc'' off all time.
God you homosexuals are even worse then evangelion fans.
Do japs like it? I recommend it to one but she never watched it
I love the show but anyone saying that the lion turtle wasn’t an asspull is coping and winning golds in Olympic mental gymnastics. If you look up asspull in a dictionary you’ll find a picture of the lion turtle.
The truth is, the writers set up this conflict of morality of whether Aang should kill the Fire Lord or not, then realized in season 3 that the pacifist air cuck philosophy doesn’t work when your enemy doesn’t share your value. They couldn’t have him kill Ozai because Nickelodeon wouldn’t let them kill characters. So in the first half of the finale, they literally had Aang talk to a fricking giant turtle and gain an ability that has not even been foreshadowed previously.
And he doesn’t even beat Ozai on merit. He just enters the Avatar state and goes God mode. Deus ex machina down to a t. The funny thing is, they just wound up doing what that crazy Earth kingdom general wanted to do in the beginning of season 2.
Imagine Avatar flying over your head. I can't tell if anime causes or attracts brainrot.
>show definitively that the lion turtle was an asspull
>y-you just didn’t get it!
I understand the point they are trying to make, they just failed to make it effectively. You cannot just pull something out of your ass in the eleventh hour of a story. You have to foreshadow it. You have to set it up. You have to angle the story in that direction from the beginning. There are plenty literary devices that help you do this and the writers used none of them.
>aang has never gone on a spiritual journey to seek guidance before
It's been set up, the turtle doesn't give him the power either, it was always an option.
You’re hopeless
No u
Maybe they should've spent multiple episodes explaining in depth what each Chakra means along with exactly what the sea turtle is doing so you would be able to grasp the same thing as literal children do reflexively with visual storytelling.
The story's entire spiritual backbone was the "foreshadowing" you dolt.
Ok. So why didn’t Luke Skywalker just use the force to blow up the second Death Star? The force was established and the series has a spiritual backbone.
Of course you'd use Star Wars as an example.
It’s a simple pop culture analogy that anyone can understand. Answer the question or frick off like we all know you will because you’re full of shit.
There's no point in engaging with someone who's arguing in bad faith. The two are not comparable at all.
Alright see you later then homosexual, I accept your surrender
He basically used it to blow up the first one by turning off the targeting system
>Catalog
sorry chud, but the sea lion first appeared waaaaaaay back in S2's the library, so
>You cannot just pull something out of your ass in the eleventh hour of a story.
Yes you can 🙂
They kind of demonstrated pacifism wouldn’t work when all the air nomads died
>They couldn’t have him kill Ozai because Nickelodeon wouldn’t let them kill characters.
Except the air nomads literally are pacifists so it wouldn't make sense for Aang to kill him regardless. Just be context with not being able to connect with shows outside of the written transcript and leave it at that. Plotgays are the worst.
Except that they literally show an air nomad avatar that Aang talks to who says “yes I’m a pacifist but you should kill him and I would in your place because the world is more important than our shitty pacifist philosophy”
He asked an Avatar, not an Air Nomad
You’re one more than you are the other. They’re supposed to learn from every culture and represent them all, he spoke to an Avatar.
She killed him as an accident though. Just doesn't feel bad about it.
That’s Kyoshi, I’m talking about the Air Nomad avatar who specifically tells Aang in no uncertain terms that he should kill Ozai.
In any case, aang is still very idealistic and young so his morals aren't as easily broken. His pacifism is something that specifically gets put to the test often and wasn't going to end with Aang killing someone even if the Nickjews did allow it.
weird, the creators of your favourite cartoon sure don't feel that way about anime.
wonder if Cinemaphile sisters will touch this one.
You guys owe gainax and studio ghibli an apology they sure weren't getting inspired by blues clues and other sordid western affair.
/co/bros I'm still waiting for my apology. I was just kidding you know I love you, it makes sense the best western cartoon would just be a western anime. I mean the imitations will always pale in comparisons to the original (studio ghibli is one of my favourite studios and I see where they rubbed off on the the avatar creators). I mean you can't fault them for trying.
You must pardon Cinemaphilembler, they've been mindbroken by the state of their industry and the fact that former comic readers are all migrating to manga and anime
I never would have guessed that FLCL inspired Avatar
>anime but not anime
Why do you anime haters always invoke it anyway? Just say ATLA is an enlightened cartoon or something
>ATLA
>without cliche
Lol. The entire show is cliches thrown at a wall
Too bad I prefer anime.
What's always bothered me about this show is that if everyone can bend elements what's stopping one schizo from just destroying the town he is in, in a few minutes.
Also if you can bend water can't you literally just kill someone by just moving there blood into their brain and immediately causing an aneurism. What's stopping 1 guy from killing literally hundreds that way
>what's stopping one schizo from just destroying the town he is in, in a few minutes
You'd have to be strong enough to do that in the first place. The show is centered around a schizo that wants to destroy an entire nation in an afternoon.
>can't you literally just kill someone by just moving there blood into their brain and immediately causing an aneurism
Blood bending is addressed, you again have to be strong enough and also get a statboost from the moon. Top 5 epsiode btw.
evangelion bootyblasts this shit yeah I saw it on tv when I was a kid too it's not that good LMAO
troony therefore opinion discarded. May you have a grotesque and violent suicide.
>ugly animations
>barren settings
>ugly characters
>cuck mc
I feel like there is a lot of revisionism going on with avatar as of late by zoomers. When I was a kid I never viewed Avatar being better or even as good as any of the animes on toonami&adult swim(dbz, yu yu hakusho, rouni kenshin, gundam, outlaw star, etc). And everyone I knew held the same opinion. The word or perception that I remember for the show was that it was light hearted show for little kids rather being a contemporary to what was on toonami because avatar simply didn't go as hard as the stuff on toonami in terms of action & violence and wasn't trying to be a pure boy show like them either.
Like in DBZ you had homies banging out for real, like Gohan got his neck shattered on namek by a dude built like arnold schwarzenegger. All of that battle shounen stuff was porn for 10-13 year old boys and nothing in the west came close to replicating that over the top hyper masculine style of action and fighting. In contrast the hardest character in avatar was a little girl who threw rocks. It just wasn't a show that made boys go, "that's badass". So avatar never really got over with my peer group and I never heard anybody hyping it up like that. Like nobody would ever put avatar in the same breath as DBZ, they didn't even see it as occupying the same space of kid show. Anybody that was born in the early 90s knows that. But for whatever reasons zoomers born in like the mid 2000s are trying to rewrite the narrative, very bizarre.
This is all facts. Avatar was never in the discussion at any lunch room table in America during the early 2000s for any 4-6 grader. That shit was for babies and girls. DBZ had everyone buzzing, not just the nerds.
Ah yes, the series that ended in the 90s was a topic for grade schoolers in the 2000s. Certainly :^)
Why are you pretending to be under 30?
Western production, therefore not anime.
Mushoku Tensei shits all over avatar and every fantasy show or movie that has came out of the west in the last 20 years.
Yikes...you're not allowed to mention that show on Cinemaphile, the mc's back story hits too close to home for most people on here.
>tranime thread on Cinemaphile
dilate
I agree.
No power levels? Each season was dedicated to Aang gaining a new power level. And it was definitely e-girl influences. Put away your rose colored glasses and realize even your most favorite childhood memory is still derivative pedo cult grooming garbage. Remember that millennials were raised on this shit and look how they turned out.
>Each season was dedicated to Aang gaining a new power level. And it was definitely e-girl influences
Hunter X Hunter is bad. It is uninteresting. The art is bad. The character designs are ugly. A fishing rod is fricking stupid as a weapon. Chimera ant is bad too.
this I don't really get the appeal. From my perspective it has even worse pacing than DBZ and Naruto and literally 0 action, all of the le million iq moments are just dumb
The fishing rod gets ditched like 20% of the way into the series
My bad. The show is just goddamned forgettable I fogot.
I can see how it would be easy to forget when you have never seen it and only looked at the promo art
>don't like what I like huh?
>that means you haven't seen it
Shit take dude.
HunterxHunter is boring af. Bleach better.
>cartoon that glorifies israelites
no thanks.
>avatar glorifies israelites
What the frick are you even saying?
>A kid from a religious, monastic order is the "chosen" one to save the world.
>gets holocausted by the "big bad" fire nation
>fire nation gets demonized for spreading civilization to the rest of save tribes and kingdoms
Nice try rabbi.
I genuinely can't tell if this is a shitpost or not. This is good b8.
I thought the global politics of Avatar was based on how Japan terrorized china and korea prior to ww2.
Air nomads are basically stateless after their holocausting. Tell me, what group of people were basically stateless before being given the most coveted piece of land between the three biggest religions?
There's only one left so I guess he's technically stateless
theres more than Aang
Not in ATLA and I don't care at all about korra
L’etat c’est moi - aang, probably
The fire nation didn’t even claim their abandoned temples literally random people were bumming in one, they just left the infrastructure
Aang and whatever gay shit happened in Korra can just claim the temples, there’d be no redistribution of land because no meaningful entities ever bothered to try and claim it.
>power levels
Because they're non existing, one fricking journey to dragons can make you ten times stronger (to the point that you can wipe the floor with your prodigy sister) but Fire Nation for some reason decided to annihilate all dragons instead of sending dozens of firebenders to them for training.
Also Avatar State is broken beyond belief and I'm glad that Korra nerfed it to the ground
Korra is so, so much better
Korra is fricking dogshit for homosexual troony tumblr types, frick off.
