The bully villainess is white and because of that you say it's not woke? It's almost worse than the original Little Mermaid because they took the original ginger Ariel and made her evil.
>another "reverse expectations" by having the movie be about an ugly kraken girlboss instead of a cute mermaid damsel in love with a prince
it's woke, that is why it happened.
Basically. They need to go back to the successful Disney Golden Age formula. Make "hot guy, hot girl" stuff again. Or even two hot Girls. Stop with the grubhub designs and "subverting expectations. "
Let’s all collectively buy Spirit so it can beat Ruby retroactively. He deserves it for making his embarrassing Ariel hate into a movie.
Just imagine being a grown man and making an entire movie seething about how you hate the red headed mermaid then wondering why little girls might not want to go see it.
It was clumsy. You can still do "the villains are monsters, wipe em out" like the shadows in Raya. But it's a lot different to do "they're all evil" to what's basically a human subspecies. They only convinced themselves it was okay but making Chelsea a pretty white girl. That genocide is okay!
lol damn not the white girls specifically a red head made to be genocided she had no chance.
also yeah, really I said this last thread they really made the villainous race helpless and one sided I'll just recap it

I think they have no idea what draws in seats anymore and have fallen trap to just giving the movie away. Very few film trailers don't spoil the whole movie any more.

DreamWorks had worse bombs before when they were an independent company. They'll be fine, especially now that they're owned by big daddy Universal who is never going under
It bothers me that the title is "Ruby Gillman, Teenage Kraken". I feel like the two parts should rhyme, something like "Ruby Graken, Teenage Kraken". That would have at least tripled the box office, guaranteed.
Why is the blue Kraken girl named Ruby? It's confusing because people will assume the redhead mermaid is Ruby. I agree they missed an opportunity to make the movie rhyme. Also I don't think that krakens have gills so why call her gillman?
>release first trailer >people start gravitating around Ruby and Chelsea >people start shipping them >marketing notices it and start teasing said ship, even if it's clear Ruby will end with the ugly humanoid >Chelby shipping fanart increases >movie get released >Chelsea is an adult grooming Ruby, a teenager
Marketing team knew that and decided to go for it anyways, it makes sense as no ones cares about this movie but just the Chelby ship.
This will age so poorly, i'd love the shitshow incoming.
He'll if I was given the choice I'd do that. I love fricking pvwr the audience.
I once published a book with a very obvious romantic tension between two minor characters just to reveal they were cousins in a later book. The butthurt was glorious.
i feel the marketing team like most marketing teams(used to work for one). They don't always get told everything and marketing teams are more strategic and follow numbers rather than creativity so you see a potential ship is happening you push it for more sales which will get you more revenue. They probably were told the same basic summary as we all were or were going off the trailer, so the reveal of you know what came out of left field for them as well.
But yeah it will be a shit show I hope dreamwork just says frick it sense no one really cares outside the ship and says they retcon it to be the more normal outcome also adds potential for the obvious sequel they want.
>They probably were told the same basic summary as we all were or were going off the trailer, so the reveal of you know what came out of left field for them as well.
Every single plot twist was put into the trailer no. 1 and all subsequent ones. I was able to predict the age gap thing with my room temp IQ, which means that all the morons who missed it are goddamn amoebas.
>I was able to predict the age gap thing with my room temp IQ, which means that all the morons who missed it are goddamn amoebas.
Most people noticed the "you're just a teenager"(or whatever it was) line in the first trailer, you're not a genius for noticing it. Those people however assumed the writers of this movie can't be THAT moronic that the implied plot of the movie is really that bad and thus hoped/thought the trailer was misleading. In other words, the only stupid thing people did was that they had some slight hope in mankind.
well the thing is you as a marketing person would hope they aren't stupid enough to ok you to spoil the whole damn movie. Also sometimes they leave you with tons of clips and pieces in no real order and will be like just release these. It's the real reason most movies have such shitty trailers that spoil everything because theirs a huge ass disconnect between the creators and marketing, marketing is usually only talking with the company so it's basically a long game of telephone. I remember once at my old job we did that unintentional a few times because the people know less and less as it goes up the chain and a outside marketing team knows jack shit and we got 100 projects so we don't try to figure out the story just take what were given and do our best or what they tell us.
>I was able to predict the age gap thing with my room temp IQ, which means that all the morons who missed it are goddamn amoebas.

yeah me having hope was my biggest flaw I really let myself think no way they'd just keep frickin up. But as I said above I should have known better I know how often marketing teams really don't even realize how much their spoiling.
How long will we have to wait until Redmoa gets his hands on some decent models of these characters? I’d imagine he could get a lot of mileage out of tentacle play.
whoever that is will most likely make their own models, especially with how the characters are designed in the movie. But also with how horny the fandom is probably about a week or two after the movie drops the 3d assets will as well.
Nintendo*
FIFY, i won't credit Illumination for it, Nintendo oversaw the production so much, the only creative freedom Illumination had was replacing extremely good music arrangements with pop culture music, and i'm still mad about that.
Elemental did cringe getalong that failed because they did such an awkward "fire is Asians, water is blacks" thing. This went too far the other way, with genocide being okay if they're pretty and white.
We just wanted unlikely friends.
>elemental is about how asian girls should get FRICKED by big black dicks >*bombs* >ruby gillman is about lesbians >*bombs*
Wow I guess showing audiences you only make moronic garbage that appeals to 1% of the population eventually kills your fanbase huh.
Maybe most people are just straight, cis, normal people who date within their race and religion and are okay with that without animosity towards others.
>ruby gillman is about lesbians
It isn't. That's the actual problem here, they marketed as such after they noticed people just care about that aspect of the movie, but the final product is the most mid ass shit possible. Ruby ends with the """""human.""""" Cues to dance party ending.
>elemental is about how asian girls should get FRICKED by big black dicks
So is Ruby Gillman, also >beauty bad >redheads bad >genocide and racism are fine if white people are on the receiving end
It has some lesbians as well.
>elemental is about how asian girls should get FRICKED by big black dicks
Is it? The water people are the first immigrants and are racist, and say things like we're surprised you speak so clearly. They're stand-ins for white people.
Teenage Kraken isn't about lesbians but a wholesome heterosexual couple like literally every single animated movie that has been released so far. Although there is a background lesbian couple. Honestly that might be the reason the movie is flopping. If you are gonna make a normal heterosexual movie then do it from beginning to end. Don't add random LGTBQ shit. Just look at Spiderverse, shit is so heterosexual that on top of having the main romance, pregnancies, strong family themes, implied hetero NTR, and metrosexual spidey with a gf, every single background couple is straight. Not a single homosexual on sight.
>Dreamworks >a subsidiary of Universal >Universal also owns Illumination >Illumination also made a movie this year >said movie grossed over 1 billion $
They'll be fine
Tell that to BlueSky studios. Being under a bigger studio doing well doesn't help you if you're the one subsidiary doing small numbers. They'd move your assets to the one subsidiary doing big cash and dissolve your division.
They got closed as a result of the buyout.
Disney only owned them long enough to produce one minor flop ($100 mil budget vs $170 mil box office). They were obviously heavily considering axing them from the outset.
You know when some bullshit like w*lcome h*me is more prominent and paid attention to by like 26 times more that no one gives a shit about Teenage Kraken
I would have gone to see this if the movie ended with kraken nerd and cheerleader mermaid lezzed out, but they paired her with the darkie instead. Very sad
Define "real" marketing. I never thought it was gonna be a hit, but the hype dying out when the plot was becoming increasingly clear from the trailers makes things look worse.
More anti marketing is that stupid tagline about how chelsea cant be trusted but i still do makeover collabs with her. That makes me want to shoot this movie in the head. This coming from a female. Yes really.
I don't know why people find this guy to be a great villain. He doesn't have a compelling backstory or a personality with layers, and he's as threatening as Mr Burns.
Katzenberg would probably sleep better at night if he just admitted to himself that he made a mistake here. He shouldn't have allowed a darker and edgier Kung Fu Panda sequel made without the involvement of first film's directors/story writers and under the direction of a female asian american story artist who never directed anything before

Still so much better than this overrated, boring, unfunny, outdated, visually unnapealing and vapid piece of garbage with no sincerity.
I feel like "frick traditionally beautiful characters! They're evil b***hes. Have a barely-pleasing monsterwoman snogging the ugliest black dude you've ever seen!" is a separate problem from "go woke, go broke."
It's not even Calarts at this point, it's people trying to "subvert" what people find visually pleasing. I do not want to see the one beautiful girl demonized and punished while the uglyfrick gets a happy ending. I am not paying money to see that.
>Mediocre
It sounds actively bad actually. 99.99% of the character designs are hot garbage, the humor is bottom-of-the-barrel and the plot utterly predictable in a disappointing way.
I blame spiderverse
When Dreamworks dies, will it go to heaven?
They have made what's probably the best movie about religion to ever exist, there's a special place for them in Heaven

>Kung Fu Panda 2 domestic box office : $165,249,063
Nice to see the vastly inferior film lose.

Okay wtf. Gonna have the top 3 highest grossing animated movies of 2023 be
1. Mario
2. Spiderverse
3. Fricking PAW Patrol lol
I'd watch CHADcontrol over the Mario Commerical any day of the week.
Wish will probably be number 3
Time to be bought by Illumination and make movie sequels.
>release first trailer
>people start gravitating around Ruby and Chelsea
>people start shipping them
>marketing notices it and start teasing said ship, even if it's clear Ruby will end with the ugly humanoid
>Chelby shipping fanart increases
>movie get released
>Chelsea is an adult grooming Ruby, a teenager
I remember once at my old job we did that unintentional a few times because the people know less and less as it goes up the chain and a outside marketing team knows jack shit and we got 100 projects so we don't try to figure out the story just take what were given and do our best or what they tell us.
yeah me having hope was my biggest flaw I really let myself think no way they'd just keep frickin up. But as I said above I should have known better I know how often marketing teams really don't even realize how much their spoiling.
>Chelsea is an adult grooming Ruby, a teenager
on the one hand that just makes it hotter
on the other I can't really see myself bothering to see the movie anyway
How long will we have to wait until Redmoa gets his hands on some decent models of these characters? I’d imagine he could get a lot of mileage out of tentacle play.
whoever that is will most likely make their own models, especially with how the characters are designed in the movie. But also with how horny the fandom is probably about a week or two after the movie drops the 3d assets will as well.
Redmoa is dogshit
Same hackneyed expressions and focuses on foot/buttjob autism
Nah. For starters their track record at the moment is much better than Disney's so they won't die off like that.
So according to this movie, when my grandpa goes on a rant about what ethnicities I shouldn't trust, I should follow his advice.
Nice.
i mean, my grandpa said Venezuelan people are rats, and he was completely right.
I was in that thread about rat traps yesterday on Cinemaphile, this is correct
>rat traps
Reggie the rat?
"Illumination buffalos DreamWorks, Pixar, AND Disney in the same year" wasn't on my bingo card.
Nintendo*
FIFY, i won't credit Illumination for it, Nintendo oversaw the production so much, the only creative freedom Illumination had was replacing extremely good music arrangements with pop culture music, and i'm still mad about that.
You mean the mess with Peach was Nintendo's idea?
Yeah, they do like that, anyone who knows how Nintendo manage their IPs knows that.
But I thought TLW queers said DreamWorks was going to save animation
Two things:
>TLW isn't doing much for animation but just following the leader (Spiderverse)
>stop thinking in absolutes like redditors
>TLW isn't doing much for animation but just following the leader (Spiderverse)
That's the biggest redditor take here
i don't say Spiderverse is good or bad, but saying TLW is just repeating what Spiderverse did. Keep you paranoia out of this.
Wow I never even heard of Spirit Untamed.
isn't Spirit Untamed the one i which someone does tame Spirit?
Someone needs to make art of Ruby saying "genocide was acceptable. They brought it on themselves."
add a "Grandma was right!" at it.
I may just make the attempt is it from a meme I can reference?
Nah, no meme.
And maybe add a "listen to your grandparents wisdom, they know more about Those People" or something.
oh welp, any ref I can use or position tell me how you vision the framing. I'm bad at compositing by myself
yeah she was just trying to become equal in the arms race
I'd say have Ruby be standing there with one finger raised, like she's lecturing to students or in a "The More You Know" type of PSA.
>immediately wastes all the goodwill from Puss the last wish
Goddammit DreamWorks
lowkey that and Chelsea was the only reason this movie got hyped as hard as it did.
Pixar and DW can't compete with Chad Minions anymore
Elemental did cringe getalong that failed because they did such an awkward "fire is Asians, water is blacks" thing. This went too far the other way, with genocide being okay if they're pretty and white.
We just wanted unlikely friends.
They've still got a Shrek 5 in the works and from what we've seen the people behind Puss In Boots two will be involved.
>accidentally making a pro-racism movie
Amazing. 2023, folks!
I mean, Primos is a thing, so it's not surprising.
>elemental is about how asian girls should get FRICKED by big black dicks
>*bombs*
>ruby gillman is about lesbians
>*bombs*
Wow I guess showing audiences you only make moronic garbage that appeals to 1% of the population eventually kills your fanbase huh.
Maybe most people are just straight, cis, normal people who date within their race and religion and are okay with that without animosity towards others.
>ruby gillman is about lesbians
It isn't. That's the actual problem here, they marketed as such after they noticed people just care about that aspect of the movie, but the final product is the most mid ass shit possible. Ruby ends with the """""human.""""" Cues to dance party ending.
Stop thinking about dicks.
Ruby Gilman is not about lesbians. It's about how racism and genocide are okay if the victims have light enough skin.
Someone missed the summary of Gillman's plot. For once lesbians would have been better.
>decent looking lesbos instead of hambeasts or butch shaved heads
>it’s not real
The trailer already revealed as much.
Can't have red haired white mermaids having a good ending there anon
>elemental is about how asian girls should get FRICKED by big black dicks
So is Ruby Gillman, also
>beauty bad
>redheads bad
>genocide and racism are fine if white people are on the receiving end
Nobody tell him. Keep his purity intact, for the love of Spider-Jesus.
>Dreamworks
>a subsidiary of Universal
>Universal also owns Illumination
>Illumination also made a movie this year
>said movie grossed over 1 billion $
They'll be fine
Tell that to BlueSky studios. Being under a bigger studio doing well doesn't help you if you're the one subsidiary doing small numbers. They'd move your assets to the one subsidiary doing big cash and dissolve your division.
They got closed as a result of the buyout.
Disney only owned them long enough to produce one minor flop ($100 mil budget vs $170 mil box office). They were obviously heavily considering axing them from the outset.
>one minor flop
>$100 mil budget vs $170 mil box office worldwide
>$66 mil in domestic box office
Lol
Lmao even
>btw that flop was pic related
>Blue Sky Studio died not with a bang, but with a whimper.
Why can't we make beautiful 2d movies any more? Like Aladdin or The little Mermaid?
Watch WolfWalkers.
Foreign studio, basically Irish making a movie about old Irish folk lore.
That was 3 years ago, mate.
So are they going to go back to that movie idea of a Bilby in the outback then?
You know when some bullshit like w*lcome h*me is more prominent and paid attention to by like 26 times more that no one gives a shit about Teenage Kraken
>w*lcome h*me
The puppet shit? i see no correlation between that and this...
I would have gone to see this if the movie ended with kraken nerd and cheerleader mermaid lezzed out, but they paired her with the darkie instead. Very sad
It had no real marketing. I think the Elemental marking was so hard to frick over this film
I think it had antimarketing
The black dude scared so many people off seeing this movie
Define "real" marketing. I never thought it was gonna be a hit, but the hype dying out when the plot was becoming increasingly clear from the trailers makes things look worse.
they made a second spirit movie? and it was plastic doll garbage? I didn't really need to know this existed....
Wasn’t that a direct to streaming garbage and has nothing to do with the original Spirit other than name and some characters.
that sounds like most star wars movies
>untamed
>literally tamed in the poster
You can't be this illiterate at producing media without failing massively...
More anti marketing is that stupid tagline about how chelsea cant be trusted but i still do makeover collabs with her. That makes me want to shoot this movie in the head. This coming from a female. Yes really.
Let's face it, only capeshitters attend theaters anymore. Alen Moore was right about about the MCU.
(you) already told us how much your contrarian ass doesn't like Shrek 2 on this thread.
Make memes properly uncultured swine, and this doesn't change the fact that this sequel is worthless, irrelevant and overrated trash.
(you) don't deserve two minutes of editing a meme, gay.
So wait... they don't become friends? The twist the director talked about really is that thing in every trailer?
This is a good thing. DreamWorks actually has a chance of learning that go woke = go broke and they'll make more good shit like puss 2.
For some reason, "uglyfrick" as a single word cracked me up.
Mediocre movies for a time is the price that must be paid for how good The Bad Guys and Puss in Boots: The Last Wish were.
>Mediocre
It sounds actively bad actually. 99.99% of the character designs are hot garbage, the humor is bottom-of-the-barrel and the plot utterly predictable in a disappointing way.
