video game tbh
>tfw some gay rented the last copy of super smash bros
It was me and I never gave it back lmao
you were probably one of the kids who would take the manuals out of the blockbuster rentals so the rest of us couldn't enjoy them
people did that?
that's why whenever you rented a game from blockbuster 99% of the time it didn't have the manual
>wahhh no manual
>1999
The manual was online. This isn't a 1989 thread bro.
the manual wasn't online in 1999 and I didn't own a computer until 2001
No they fricking weren't. What, you think manuals were uploaded in PDF format? The best we had were gamefaqs
No I was never that spiteful, I just wanted to keep playing the game so I "lost" it.
did you ever pay the late fee?
Who knows, my parents were the ones who handled it. I just kept playing the game when they werent around and "found it" after we moved.
if you kept renting shit after that then they obviously paid for it
They paid it then.
They probably had to pay the full retail price for it too
i remember renting a bunch of games and movies for my brother's birthday and forgetting to return them so they had ridiculously high "late fees" so we just didn't take them back and a year later the rental store closed so we got to keep them
>tfw legend of Zelda ocarina of time is not on the shelves
This tbqh
phantom menace was so cool, the film that is, loved the score, had that as a kid and played it all the time, I must have seen that film 20 times in theaters. Every time we passed a theater with it playing I would ask to see it (it was in theaters all summer).
only 3 out of 6 of these games is any good, the n64 had a better lineup of star wars games
this. my computer was shit and I couldn't emulate things but movies were still easy as shit to pirate back then.
she has a willie
That movie only ever made money from my parents and their friend's generation tricking each other into going to see it and making fun of them when they got back.
Funny. I too remember it was fairly mainstream to laugh at the twist. Different times...
Predator 2 and Tony hawk pro skater
Kino taste
>mom and dad
well la dee da mr. frenchman
YOU VILL RENT ZE MOVIES AND OWN NOTHING
Barfly. As usual.
the matrix
KOTR 98 brother
any jackie chan movie I haven't seen on the kung fu rack and siphon filter
Damn I remember siphon filter! As for Jackie Chan movies I would always hire out Rumble in the Bronx
hell yeah, siphon filter 2 was great as well when it came out, and it had that kino train level I played endlessly on a demo disc
supercop is probably my favorite jackie film
>tasers you relentlessly for 30 seconds
Nothing personnel kid
I'm not going to Blockbuster, they are way over-priced. I'm going to the mom and pop store where $5 gets you 4 movies for 7 days.
blockbuster and hollywood video ran out all the mom and pop places around me
Phantom Menace
I was working there in '99
blockbuster employees always looked fricking bored
it was boring. Friday and Saturday nights were non-stop though. they probably lost money at many locations being open too early and too late during the week.
did the blockbuster that you worked at have the wall with the employee recommendations?
yes, but it was on an end cap at the end of the aisle
I wonder how many people actually rented a movie because of the employee recommendations
Customers would seek out employees to tell them they liked their choice and would ask for further recommendations... it was a different time.
When the Darkness Falls movie came out, my parents were renting scary movies for us to watch over the weekend and the guy working the register suggested the movie to us. Dad agreed and we were later greeted to a Kino experience
that movie fricked me up as a kid lmao that opening scene
I used to sell heroin to almost every single employee at my local spot
I'm like 2, so nothing. But if I had the mind of a 10 year old at 2, I'd ask for Small Soldiers.
I was obsessed with small soldiers back then
Lord of the rings
Bakshi's version? Seriously? It wasn't good.
Already downloaded everything i wanted to see and play in 99, kek at american getting rid of their 56k modems in 2012
Not The Matrix. Everyone bought that for $15 as soon as they got a DVD player for Christmas.
"Stir Of Echoes" and "Sixth Sense" were comfy 1999 kino. I admit, also, "American Beauty", because I didn't know it sucked back then.
I still haven't seen "The Iron Giant" so, if I get a DeLorean and 1999 mom+dad want to watch a new movie with me, that's the one I'll recommend.
more like 2006 and I'm getting guitar hero 3 and harvest moon
Godzilla 1998, it just came out on rental. We pick up a huge bucket and some popcorn to pop, two large Pizza Hut pizzas, two orders of breadsticks, and a two liter of Pepsi. Unfortunately, three minutes after we got back home, the power goes out. A storm has rolled in. We ate the pizza in the dark, waiting for the electricity to come back on. The back door lurched open, a man in a Ghostface mask and 7 inch fixed blade knife slipped into our home. He rushed at my father from the shadows, taking him out immediately. My mother screamed before he sliced open her neck, spilling blood all over the pepperoni & sausage. My brother and little sister ran, I dove under the table. He went after my brother first, taking him down in the kitchen. My sister had gone upstairs, so I ran for the front door, hoping he would follow me. He didn't. I was out in the rain, waiting for him to chase after me, but he did not leave the house. I ran to a neighbor's across the street and pounded on the door, begging to be let in. The rest was a blur. I remember riding in a police car and a big funeral for all four of my family members before I went to live with my paternal grandparents & aunt. This was two decades ago and the killer was never caught. I still have not seen Godzilla 1998 since I saw it in theaters. This was outside Pittsburgh.
godzilla 98 was fricking kino back then
A Taco Bell tie in. They had those cups.
They had godzilla cupholders. My family used those until the plastic got all melty from being in the hot car for so long
>rent DVD on release weekend
>put a couple small scratches in it to "leave my mark" before returning it
I'm glad trash like you are now powerless
I would never rewind the DVDs.
I worked at a Blockbuster and if it wasn't a poorly managed shithole, you'd have been easily caught.
>did this by accident with a rental dvd I got from a Tsutaya in Japan
>ex girlfriend at the time said we’d have to pay a fine
>returned it anyway and paid nothing
'99? Jet force gemini or pokemon snap
I always passed over jet force gemini because I thought the cover looked dumb and only played it as an adult
it was starship troopers for kids. 10 year old you would have loved it
I was more into rogue squadron and goldeneye
Bullying them until they cave and let me rent Hellraiser
Waynes World 2 with Kim Basinger. I gave my best friend a blow job watching that scene in grade 8
based waynes world 2 appreciating gay. It was a way better movie than the first one
Jurassic Park. Again.
Twisted Metal 4 and Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla
>DIG THROUGH THE DITCHES AND BURN THROUGH THE WITCHES
I hope everyone who worked there has a nice day.
THE MATRIX AND I'M GETTING A BUTTERFINGER b***h
for me it was the nestle buncha crunch
Everything sucks now and this picture is proof
Everything always sucked, you're just older now. Try to imagine how much of an inconvenience you were to your parents lives. They probably brought you here so much as a kid cause you wouldn't shut the frick up or settle down for even a second you little shit.
Knowing my mom she was probably getting something something with as much sex in it as possible to tease me with before begging me to fill her butt with my cum
imagine the smell
Judging from your digits you are probably telling the truth. Can you go in more depth please because everything you mentioned sounds hot as frick. Especially combined with that pic.
I'm looking at the video games while Mom is hitting Dad and screaming in the middle of the store.
for me it was the trashy parents beating their kids in the store
Blues Clues movie or something cause I was like 3
nutty professor was boring except for the fart scene at the dinner table
contrarian loser
>NFL BLITZ
>Austin Powers
>king size box of M&Ms
>order delivery for a Big New Yorker from Pizza Hut
I made sure to buy austin powers with my allowance and I about wore the fricking tape out
Ghidorah, the Three-Headed Monster
Final Fantasy 8 or legacy of kain: soul reaver
a box of starburst or milk duds
i also steal a fricking pc gamer demo disc with age of empires 2 on it.
Boys, that was a good weekend.
I'm pretending to brows horror movies while I actually look at the adult films on the opposite side of the isle
vidya games
peak comfy
can we go back?
cringeworthy
what? the Chef Boyardee ontop of the VCR?
Holy shit the coming generation and late zoomers will never enjoy this comfyness.
looks like a Pretty Princess Points room
Yeah, like i said, comfyness.
that is one messy room, eww
if it's a common room, wow that's a badly organized parent, if it's the kid's room, wow that's a poorly brought up parent.
>tv in the kid's room
>computer in the kid's room
>kid allowed to eat in the room and not solely in the kitchen
>junk everywhere
VGHHHHHHh
I was not allowed a tv in my room.
If my dad was spotted in 99 there would be a huge reward for that prick so I'd be on the payphone outside trying to collect.
The Mummy and Syphon Filter
chameleon twist. i bring it home to play only to see the entire game was beaten and theres no obvious way 7 year old me knew to reset the save file.
that game is really easy and short anyway
>rent ocarina of time
>game is already at ganondorf
>just hookshot him until I eventually die
My parents are divorced, and it's my dad's weekend. We're going to rent Attack of the Killer Tomatoes and Candyman
That dvd that has an hour worth of horror movie clips and trailers
Kino
Add Desperado and Assassins and we got a.. how do you say.. Antonio Banderas Night
>Godzilla vs Gigan
>The Lost World Jurassic Park for the ps1
And I had a blast.
basically every other week I would rent a godzilla movie
I rented a Godzilla movie every chance I got. If not those, I’d get a random horror movie based on if the cover was. I discovered Pumpkinhead that way.
Putting scotch tape over the record tab on a shitty movie and recording my swinging nuts and ass just as the credits roll
If you complained about it and got a free rental it's a flawless victory
Austin Powers and something for the n64
We had Filmtown. I took Freddy vs. Jason.
1 scooby doo movie and 1 kung fu flick
I was in graduate school in 1999 and lived a thousand miles away from my Mom and Dad.
>Goof Troop
holy fricking based
emulate the Japanese version it has multiple different difficulties that change the puzzles
do it NOW
>saw this in theaters on opening day
>they didn't have any ancient mew cards
frickers
Watched this multiple times on Pay-Per-View because we had a black box. Also, Austin Powers 2, American Psycho, American Pie, and many more.
Probably a godzilla movie. As a kid these dvd covers were the coolest thing ever.
Old school UFC and WWF videos.
What was the last thing you ever rented?
For me it was Tales of Vesperia. My store went away literally a month later.
Ninja Scroll
Dead or Alive Xtreme Beach Volleyball
It's about uh volleyball Dad. At the beach. To save us the cost of going....
your dad knew exactly what he was doing
Fight Club, Princess Mononoke and maybe a Drew Barrymore or that Marisa Tomei movie with RDJ.
I'm not going to Blockbuster, I'm going to a local rental store. Probably getting something off the 99cent rack. Game would have been something for N64 or PS1, in '98 or '99 I rented Banjo multiple times in the summer. Probably renting a horror movie or comedy. I remember when new releases would have an entire wall dedicated to one or two new movies that came out that week. A lot of the time they would be rented out.
