The real problem is that the entire floor is so highly sensitive to pressure changes that even a drop of sweat would be enough to set it off, yet he can pound away at the keyboard (which is on the desk, which is on the floor) without any of the sensors reacting at all.

Ving rames was the definition of flanderization that continued with every movie after

Dougray didn't feel threatening, driven or engaged in any scene of the movie
It was one line away of abandoning his quest, at any random point he could have said "I'm tired of this, you win" and it's completely believable

To be fair the quality of the modern woman in both looks and personality is in steep decline ever since, you have to dig post-wall 50-60 yo women back from the grave if you want classy women who can act, and even then their look is awful due to aging.

You want me to explain why I find this movie stupid?
The CIA didn't want people to hack their computer so they lock the terminal in a room?
so that every time they need something as much as getting a list spies, they hire a fall guy to use the terminal to write the file onto a floppy disc?
somehow the fall guy doesn't look very busy? Because they don't need to use that computer every minute and work the guy to death?
They have all those sophisticated sensors all over their terminal, but cannot do something as simple as locking up the terminal when the door is locked?
The black hacker cannot connect to the terminal but has live streaming from Tom Cruise's camera?
They fricking drugged the fall guy. Why not copy his voice, fingerprints and eyeballs to walk into the room?
They fricking crawled into the room, why not just crawl into the next room where the mainframe is? And do whatever hacking they wanted from there?

        yea, and?
        >They have all those sophisticated sensors all over their terminal, but cannot do something as simple as locking up the terminal when the door is locked?
        so?
        >The black hacker cannot connect to the terminal but has live streaming from Tom Cruise's camera?
        two entirely unrelated things
        >They fricking drugged the fall guy. Why not copy his voice, fingerprints and eyeballs to walk into the room?
there are more people in the building
        >They fricking crawled into the room, why not just crawl into the next room where the mainframe is? And do whatever hacking they wanted from there?

Sorry I cannot explain to you why I find it stupid to put your database, "air gapped", in a room with floor sensors. I just can't.

It's like you don't want to use it and don't want to protect it either.

As of Tom Cruise's camera feed and that tiny tracker they put on the fall guy, I am sure they could put them into better use.

also, I respect that tom cruise actually played smart and resourceful characters, compared to matt damon who always, always plays a character who went to a good school, usually yale or harvard, who everyone talks about being so smart.

it's a subtle difference in a movie or two, but after a career it's pretty apparent.

      > When you ask a friend if Hellboy is any good, you're not asking if it's any good compared to Mystic River, you're asking if it's any good compared to The Punisher. And my answer would be, on a scale of one to four, if Superman is four, then Hellboy is three and The Punisher is two. In the same way, if American Beauty gets four stars, then The United States of Leland clocks in at about two.

What was the intention of not giving Hunt a recuring boss? In 2 you have Hopkins, in 3 Fishburne, was there one in 4?, in 5 and 6 you get Baldwin.

regardless of what the morons in this thread imply, the series is supposed to be about a super spy.
if a spy has a recurring antagonist that just means he's shit at his job of neutralizing enemies of the state.
same reason why spectre was so stupid in James Bond and why hydra is so kino in captain america. it shows off the capabilities of the hero and their failings.

You are simultaneously appealing to two different things, fantasy superspy and realistic espionage. Mission: Impossible with superspy Ethan Hunt is not a franchise about realism, it is pulpy spy fiction cast in the same mould as James Bond.

        Anonymous

Could be due to how all over the place the franchise has been in production (no real consistent creative team for much of its history) and the time gaps between films (M:I 2 came rather late four years after the first, M:I III came out six years after M:I 2 and Ghost Protocol was five years after M:I III). It is only by Rogue Nation where Christopher McQuarrie come in & firmly take the reigns and that the formula gets developed off what was done in Ghost Protocol. Whilst you had Ving Rhames carry over through all the films and Simon Pegg from 3 onwards, the focus on recuring characters and interconnectivity happens under McQuarrie: Fallout follows from Rogue Nation; Jeremy Renner in Rogue Nation is a holdover from Ghost Protocol; there wasn't really any imperative to bring back Simon Pegg, or at least have both Benji and Luther yet, he sticks around; Rebecca Ferguson, Alec Baldwin, Vanessa Kirby and Sean Harris appear in more than one film; you get Hunt's wife brought back.
